Season 1: "Stray" - A child who can read minds escapes his cruel parents and finds happiness with the Kents.
Season 2: "Fever" - Martha is pregnant, but theres no joy when that news comes with the realization that she may be dying of exposure to meteor dust.
Season 3: "Crisis" - A phone rings, Clark answers and Lana's voice cries out. She's in great danger - but the call comes from the future. Can the future be altered?
Season 4: "Lucy" - Lois's sister Lucy Lane comes to town. For a vacation, she says. But can anyone believe what she says?
Season 5: "Hypnotic" - Under her spell: A woman uses hypnosis to control Clark (and Lex uses the woman's past to control her).
Season 6: "Promise" - It's Lex and Lana's wedding day. But it's not a time of joy for Clark... or for Lana.
Season 7: "Descent" - The secrets of Veritas puts Lex in Clarks crosshairs, and a death rocks Smallville.

who the hell put lucy !
not that i didnt like that episode, but theres just NO WAY that it could ever beat promise or descent.
Descent was actually probably better than promise.
and Promise ROCKED,
but descent ROCKED MORE.

lots of suspense and powerful scenes between alot of the cast.
chlex, chlark, clex, lexionel (i dunno the one for lex + lionel) and with jimmy and lois !!!!
although thank god, lana wasnt in this episode !!!!!

that why it was so good, lana wasnt in it !!! and same for justice, it rocked.....
COS NO LANA !!!

alot of the 16's were very good,
stray, fever, crisis, lucy, hypnotic, promise.
they were all good, but again, none as good as descent

Im soooooooo EXTATIC that lana has been removed from the equation for a little while,
hopefully FOREVER !!!!

I'll vote now and say Descent blows everything else out of the water.

I'm uber excited for this episode and this run of episodes, and I haven't been a watcher of this show since mid S5.

^It really does blow everything out of the water. From the first to the last second!

Every fan of smallville should watch it. I don't think I've ever been so pleased with TPTB. Really!

TPTB = The Powers That Be (Writers, producers, etc.)

Without ranking Descent yet (SO excited to see it), my ranking for S1-6 would be:

Stray (one of the best minor character relationships on the show)
Promise (I'm even anti-clana, and I still thought it was a primo ep)
Fever (I miss Annette)

[big gap]

Crisis (one of the few S3 eps i didn't dig)

[bigger gap]

Hypnotic (umm... WHAT?)
Lucy (the only thing worse than Lois is her bratty klepto sister)

I haven't seen "Descent" yet, but of the episodes of the 6 seasons prior, I'd say "Crisis" was my favorite. I just love to think 4th-dimensionally!

I was not a big fan of "Hypnotic", & "Promise" wasn't all I expected it to be.

But i have the massivest feeling Descent will take over ;)

Descent is the most powerful episode of this season and if not this series because we really see how Lex destroys his good side and his own father in one episode and becomes the Darth Vader of Smallville.

Promise was one of the best season 6 episdoes ever...and one of the best episodes of the series; Descent is now the best season 7 episode ever and another one of the best episodes of the series...so i give the vote to Descent; second is Promise.

LOL, I don't even see the point of this poll. Without a doubt this is one of the best episdes ever, regardless of season. We finally see the fruition of the Lex/Lionel/Clark storyline. I knew Lex would have to kill Lionel and suspected Lionel would sacrifice himself to save Clark. But seeing it on screen was just amazing to see.

A lot of good ones here. The last two seasons we have had some major, huge episodes in the 16 slot. And this one's a lot bigger than Promise even.

1) Descent
2) Promise
3) Stray- really a touching scene, especially when Ryan remarks that he doesn't need Warrior Angel anymore because he has Clark. I loved when Clark and Ryan were playing basketball together and Jonathan and Martha talk about how a great brother Clark would be.
4) Fever- The search of the farm, and the discovery of the key is in danger! Way cool.
5) Lucy- Good to see a little deeper into Lois' family. (Even though Season 4 was too early to introduce Lois, in my opinion.)
6) Hypnotic- Lex is trying to discover what Clark is all about. That was interesting.
7) Crisis- Adam Knight's end. He was a good character.

I picked "Descent", because IT WAS SO POWERFUL. My heart pounded from beginning to end. It was emotionally Intense and it gave us new information. I Loved Jimmy and Lois working together and that Clark saved them, ...by using his heat vision in a new way. It was thrilling to watch. I Loved how Chloe had such clarity of mind to share with Clark about the role his "3 Fathers" played in his life and how important his Destiny must be for them all to have died to pave the way for him to fullfil it.

The suspense kept building for me, and by the time Lionel's funeral came and Lex hadn't allowed anyone to attend, I was in tears; Especially when Clark showed up anyway and sprinkled the dirt on Lionel's grave just like he had for his own father (once he learned the truth about how Lionel felt about him). It should rank among the Best Ever episodes of the entire series, IMHO.

I'll give a nod to "Promise", too, as far as Best 16th episodes go. I was shaken and depressed for several days after watching it. Anything, story/episode that moves me that much deserves to be remembered.

No doubt -- Descent. Most intense episode in the history of Smallville.

I think it bodes well for next season too since they were able to create a great episode with minimal special effects.

Descent, this episode was worth the wait.

"Stray", "Fever", "Crisis", "Lucy", "Hypnotic", and "Promise" were each good in some way, but "Descent" was satisfying from start to finish.

Maye I'm biased because I just watched the episode, but I was absolutely blown away; Amazing episode. I've been waiting since season 1 for the episode where Lex made his transformation and it finally happened. I sucks pretty bad that a member of the cast is no longer going to be in the show, but they pulled it off well enough to tell the story, that it works perfectly.

Descent all the way! One of the best episodes ever! I liked parts of "Promise" but much of it was awful, IMO. Now that I think about it, that episode had Lex's first murder! He accidentally killed the doctor so that Lana would marry him. Remember Lionel said he couldn't murder anyone correctly? Well, "Descent" proved Lionel wrong. I guess the MB shouldn't have kept his mouth shut back then.

Wow, I'm still in awe for "Descent" - I just watched it. This is the best episode of season 7!!!

From the first second to the last one, this episode was almost perfect.

The actors did an amazing job - wow again!! Yeah, this is why I love Smallville so much, episodes like this one!

That heat vision scene was super, I loved these special effects!

Usually I don't like episodes so much, which are not Clark centric, but this one is going to be the first. I loved it!!!

Why couldn't all the episodes of this season be like this one?

So far my favourite epis of S7 were Bizarro and Persona, but Descent tops both of them!
I hope very much, that the rest of season 7 is going to be as good as this episode.

Best 16th episode, and best season 7 episode, and almost the best episode ever!! I'm still struck, like everyone here. That was a very beautiful tribute to Lionel, and so much focus on Lex... I'm looking forward reviews to finally read dubious people impressed by the episode. Holly Henderson and Don Whitehead are so great... I cried when Clark and Chloe, and everyone were running from the Daily Planet at the beginning to see the death...

Descent was dark, daring, and uncomfortable, as it was meant to be. The reason I say uncomfortable is because of the Lex/Alexander scene at the end, also the reason I said daring (most superhero action dramas on TV wouldn't go anywhere near the edge that Descent went over. I mean that in a good way.). Sure, children are in dangerous situations on TV all the time, and granted it was just Lex's conscience, but the fact that you even see him put the kid in the fire (not completely, but very strongly implied) makes it more daring than most. The acting from the entire cast was superb.

Promise is a very close second because a couple of important things occured, namely Lana discovering Clark's powers, and (I think for the first time) Lex killing to protect a secret without the "I was saving someone's life," or "it was self-defense" excuses to fall back on. It's also a role reversal episode, in which Lana hurts Clark to protect him instead of the other way around. It was also, in my opinion, a turning point in the Lexana relationship, and not a good one. I say this because the next episode the "miscarriage" took place. Shortly thereafter, Lana's pregnancy turned out to be faked by Lex and his scientists.

I did like Descent but for me Stray was much better. Ryan is one of my all time favorite guest characters on the show and that episode not only had the great 'Clark as older brother' thing going on but it also opened the 'telepathy' door. Which, in a way, made a bridge to the DCU at large. So yeah, I had to go with Stray.

i think once the show has finished and i've had a few marathons, if i still like the episode then i'll comment :rotfl:

tbh i think fever will always be a lot more watchable. thing is, while descent was the best one IMO for first time veiwing and shocks and stuff, there was nothing i'd want to watch again apart from the end scene.

fever and stray are totally watchable over and over. even promise is rewatchable though not as much IMO... sometimes the less continuity through the episodes the more you want to revisit them, it's weird

Thank you, that's very kind of you :D but I'm afraid the writers want us to suffer till the end of season 8 :(

Apparently shes only going to be around for a few episodes and then she's leaving, so I think it was really Al/Miles who wanted us to suffer, and they'll soon be gone.

Lets face it, Lana has become about as useless as a hangover.

Well, I would not say "useless". Clark hasn't so many good friends around him, so if they would only figure out, what they want to do with their relationship, she could still stay and be his best friend, like Chloe.
Clana in, Clana out...that's what makes me mad and everybody else, I guess. But Clark needs good friends around him, who he can trust. So I would not mind her being around as a friend of his only.

IMO, Kara is much more useless.....but that's been discussed in another thread :D

hello,
I'm aquaman2
i have a question regarding Lionel Luthor and Jor-el.
My question is,

After Clark breaks into Lionel's Safe after Lionel dies, Clark obtains a silver octagonal cylinder, my question is, how did Lionel get that device? I know he is Jor-el's emmissary but still, how did he obtain it?

Yeah, Descent definitely owns, though Fever was really good too...nice Chlark moment there. Crisis was decent as well, but yeah, Descent's the only obvious choice.

Hey.I just recently joined this thread. I have been looking madly for the theme at the end of the episode during Lionel's funeral. I have looked almost everywhere, but couldnt find it. The best I could come up with is its a background score by Mark Snow, but no idea which one. Can anybody help me out? Thanks
