I am posting this in the canadian forum for now since you guys get the episode tonight.
Please post your thoughts on the death and any words you would like to say about the beloved character.
I felt his dying was horrible, and I haven't even seen it. It just seems like he was desperate in his last episodes and I didn't like that. But he will be missed.

Beloved character?? Who do you speak of??
MB will always be remember though. I guess we'll be seeing him in flashbacks or something since he was signed on for season 8 which is sorta weird now... I really hate flashbacks.

Is anyone ever really gone? Even Jonathan had a guest appreaence after his death. Heck they could pull the old clone thing like they did with Lana next season. Who knows.
If Lionel is really dead I would be dissapointed in Lionel if he didn't haunt the heck out of Lex.

Lionel was a great and important character throughout the series. I mean, we need baddies in a show and he was a great one. Lionel was part of great storylines and John Glover really owned that character.

I'm not glad he is dead, but at the same time, he needed to go, at Lex's hand, and it happened well. It was a good send off. While it might be sad to see him go, it was a grand exit and I can't really say the death is horribly crushing. It was time.

I hope not. The point was really that it's fiction and they can write anything so you never know what they are going to do or who's going to stay dead long term.

we saw lex killing him all the way back snce season one. we knew it would happen one day. We will miss JG as Lionel, but yes, he could come back in flashbacks, or Brainaic (see Oracle) or he could haunt lex, there's so many possibilities. before descent aired, i thought that chloe would heal lionel. good thing she didn't or i would have missed chloe so much i would burn the set of smallville then feel guilty, buliding it back up again.... SOOO off topic.

I'll miss Lionel and Glover, but we should be lucky he lasted this long. He started out a guest star, and become a regular character in season 2. It's the end half of season 7 and he'll still be in the opening credits (I presume) until 7020. He lasted 7 years. Did anyone honestly think he would last that long? Still, I'll miss him and the mature aspect he brought to the show. Now it's just the kids, well not kids, but young adults.

It's both saddening and appropriate that JG gave his best performance on Smallville in "Veritas" and was killed in the very next episode. JG's contract extends through S8, so hopefully he will be kept around.

I'm pretty sure he will guest-star in Season 8. Not as flashbacks, but in the same way Lillian did in "Lexmas" and "Void" sort of. As a phantom telling Lex how evil he is, and how there is blood on his hands.
And yes, I am saddened by the MB's murder. He truly was a magnificent character. Let's remember Lionel was a MAJOR part of what made Season 3 great. He better make some guest appearances next season.

So true. He acted superbly in 'Veritas.' You're right, it's only fitting. He acted the scene with Chloe in 'Veritas' so well, I really did get freaked out in his plea to her, especially when he grabbed her. "What's coming is so terrible." I will not forget that soon. Great delivery by Glover.

I will definately miss Lionel. John Glover is definately an incredible actor. I'm not sure Lionel's character is that dynamic with someone else playing him.
Let us also not forget that Lionel was a vessel for Jorel, therefore nothing is imposible. I don't know if I'm the only one, but I was really expecting Clark to look down into the "open" grave and scan it with his X-ray vision and not see a body in the box. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if Jorel didn't pick someone else as a vessel.
With such a powerful and talented actor off the show (for the most part) everyone is gonna have to step their game up. John was one of those actors that brought everyone up to his level in a scene, so let's hope for great things from Michael and Tom.
RIP Lionel

Horrible. The man died in vain and will never be able to rest in peace because he died in the hands of his own son. What a despicable action.
Also can't help to think that he was trying to help save Clark the whole time, and he ends up losing his life over it. It wasn't the first time for this to happen of course, but the way he was killed...dang.

I am Sad, Sad. I actually cried when Clark sprinkled the dirt on Lionel's grave just as he did on his own father's grave. I LOVED John Glover's character, Lionel. He Was the epitome of a MB when he was connivingly evil. I remember all the criticism when he was in prison and looking for a 'way out' and was accidentally conformed while hi-jacking Clark's body. He had been dying and was healed and had no memory of how that happened. He was grateful, yet so many wanted him to shrug it off as a fluke and cling to being evil. Healing is a Life-Changing experience, and it shouldn't be something so easily dismissed. I think that the writers really did justice to JG's character, giving him a Broad Stroke on the canvas of Smallville.
He did revert for a time. It was his nature. However, it became too much of a conflict when he was downloaded with Jor-El's mission for Clark's Destiny, though. He was like "Angel", who could not undo all the evil he had committed, but after having been given the opportunity to really look at himself in the mirror and see the evil within his former self, and was remorseful, it gave him a 'Second Chance'. I happen to believe in Redemption. Although, Lionel kept us wondering whether or not he would revert again, or that he simply had a master plan of evil waiting to be revealed.
I respect the way he went out. He was desperately trying to complete his mission and he became frantic when he realized that his past sins had given him a reputation that made it easy to distrust him. I've been waiting for this for a few years now. I figured that Lex would have to 'Kill his own father' to complete his journey into complete Evil. Now, it's done. I'll miss Lionel Luthor AND John Glover's usual superb performances. I'll never forget him as LL.

one thing i liked is that lionel died a good guy. him dying that way just proved that he was honest about the whole cage thing and wanting to prtect clark. Mr kents wanring to clark in the afterlife i fguess was wrong. unless the real meaning behind that was clark couldnt trust lionel cause lionel knew about controlling clark and that due to him clark is in danger. which we see now because of lionel lex is know able to put clark in danger.

I agree with most everyone. I will miss Lionel. His character had a lot of layers. and John Glover did well bringing his character to life. I have to admit, Lionel is a very intriguing character, and what was revealed about him in this epi made him all the more.

I agree. And Chloe's definition of "evil" or at least the one that she follows all comes back to Lex's lack of an ability to love. He couldn't truly love Lionel, Lana, Clark, or Grant, so he's unable to love which is what makes a person "evil' according to Chloe.

Lionel is dead, and i will miss him a lot, i loved his character, he was the best actor and the best character of the show, but i have a doubt. From different sources itīs have been said that JG renewed his contract for season 8, so if Lionel is dead, that info was only a lie, a rumor?? because I thougth that it was confirmed that he will be in season 8... so what will be happen now?, we will see him again or not? he will be some kind of another character, like the new Jor El or something like that?? I hoped that i will see him in season 8... If Kristin, michael, JG, and maybe allison not in Smallville i think I will not follow the show... sad

No, I saw his pupil when the flashlight was shined in his eyes.
I wish he would return, but I don't know. Unless he returns as the Eradicator (if they ever introduce it on this show--which is really driving me nuts since it should have been on the show before Kara).

I can't stand the price of comics these days. I wish they were still $1.00. The greed that happened in the 90's really hurt the industry. It hasn't had the same popularity since then.

I was upset when comics went to 15 cents
I do hope we get to see John Glover from time to time at least in flashbacks.

Well I knew that someone was going to go in this episode, and I had a strong feeling it was Lionel. However, it's still a crushing blow as he was one of my favorites on the show. John Glover did an excellent job playing him, and that can't be said enough. I never watched a single episode with him and thought he could have played the part better. His maturity and confidence in acting really showed every time.
I will miss him terribly and I hope they can write some great stories to fill the void that he will leave.

I remember them being like 60 cents (maybe less) around 1984. And the dollar wasn't worth that mush more back in those days.

Perhaps the most confusing and interesting character of the series. R.I.P :(

Lionel The Great

What is this MB?
Meaning The "Magnificient Bastard".
He earned this name,
for being Such an Elite & Classy & Clever "sly old fox", especially in season 2 and 3.
He was almost an idol in some way for sure.
Briefly, I find his death totally disappointing.
It is a SHAME for a MAN like Lionel Luthor, dies in his Loser Son's hands !!
Actually, The writers pissed me off for getting kill him.
I Hope to God they find a way to bring him back ((like Chloe's ability))
R.I.P Lionel The MB Luthor... Definitely, You were THE MAN of the show.
You were the TRUE VILLAIN of this show indeed.
Whether you were Good or Bad in this season, you will ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED.
((The opposite what That Bald Boy said !! ))
And All Thanks to John Glover. He is a SUPERB Actor.
To be more precised, He is the most successfull actor of the Show.
Would I like so much Lionel Luthor,
if Lionel would have been played by someone else ??
I'm not sure...

No, Glover made Lionel.
Lionel in some schmuck's hands, I'd have hoped he'd die in Season 1.
It's all Glover.
Its too bad that he had to go.. He was one of the better actors on the show so thats disapointing..
All about Clark

Glover was a great Lionel, however, I think the story needed him to go and I actually thought Lex would have killed him before now. I think Glover stayed so long because TPTB knew he was loved by all. But the story must go on.
You know the moment Lionel put Clark in a kryptonite cage I knew he was dead meat.

I'm still in denial that Lionel is gone for good.
John Glover is a wonderful actor; his character of Lionel Luthor will be missed.
