Maybe Helen Bryce? She was an unwelcomed visitor at Lex's "funeral". Her professional accomplishments were compromised when you consider that she released a patient's blood/records to an outsider and attempted to murder her husband. OK, let's narrow this down some. Is the damsel a main character? If she's a guest star, is she recurring or one episode? Was she in physical danger or was the kind of help she needed more a matter of convenience (ie Carrie Castle's car problems)? Was assisting others part of this character's job, or was it an act of kindness?

So my clue referred to the character's own sole purpose. That's what I meant when I responded the way I did.

It just so happens that the character's own sole purpose is the same as the way the character serves the plot (i.e. as the way he/she is used as a plot device).
