Is the paper a death certificate, birth certificate or a yearbook thing??

MrsK
06-24-2008, 12:32 AM
None of the above.
The character survived the episode in which he/she appeared, so no death certificate.
We don't see a birth certificate or yearbook entry for him/her.

Karafan1
06-24-2008, 12:34 AM
Is the girl who came to his/her defense a main character?

MrsK
06-24-2008, 12:35 AM
Yes - and she helped him/her out against two different adversaries (one of whom is also a main character) on two separate occasions.

----- Added 4 Minutes later -----

I seem to be volunteering an awful lot of information tonight; I'm going to go to sleep before I just come right out and tell you the answer! Happy guessing!

MrsK
06-24-2008, 06:59 AM
So to sum up...

My middle initial is I (it appears on a piece of paper - neither a birth nor death certificate; also not in a yearbook)
I like video games
A girl (who is a main character) came to my defense - twice - against two adversaries, one of whom was also a main character
I was only in one (middle season) episode, and I did not die.

Hehehe, I have asked for the "Who said it?" thread to be stickied before but got no answer. xray says that apparently game threads used to be a no-no so maybe we shouldn't push our luck!! I think the Smallville Quiz thread is stickied because it has the word "Smallville" in it!!

What's your next "Who am I?", nwc?

How about Lara? We see her hand in Memoria (in Clark's Summerholt flashback) and we see her in Lara and Blue. She had a profound impact on Clark (when her replicant reappeared and as his mother), and she lost her son, her husband, her planet and her life.

Or what about Moira Sullivan? We see her from the back in Scare and then she appeared in Progeny. She had a profound effect on Chloe by leaving when Chloe was young, and she suffered loss of sanity and/or total loss of normal brain function.

I'll post one while we're waiting for him.

I worked somewhere that another character also worked.
I brought someone to a place that was first seen a few episodes before the one I appeared in.
A fiery situation led to me being exposed when a certain someone put the pieces together.
Who am I?

MrsK
06-27-2008, 12:05 AM
Deputy Watts?

Worked for the Sheriff, as did Deputy Vertigo; also worked at the fairgrounds, as did Seth Nelson
Took Chloe to Chandlers Field, which was first seen in Nicodemus, a few episodes before Obscura.
Lana saw through his eyes because of the gas explosion, which led to him being exposed.

-I had a profound impact on a main character

-I didn't make a name for myself in Smallville.
Who am I?

So we have ruled out Tina Greer, Virgil Swann, Emily Dinsmore, Ryan James, Julian Luthor, Lara, and Moira Sullivan.

It is a person who appeared in S1-2 and again in S6-7.

----- Added 1 Minutes later -----

I think your last clue, about not making a name for him/herself in Smallville may have helped...

Is it Lana's mom, Laura Potter Lang?

Her graduation address began with the words, "I never made a difference here, but maybe my children can."
She was featured in the Pilot, as well as having the speech in X-ray, and later in Void (okay, that's S5, not 6/7, so maybe I'm wrong, here.)
She lost her family, as well as her life, in the meteor shower.
Her death had a profound effect on Lana.

Is it a 2-episode character, or is the character just featured prominently twice, but actually in more episodes?

Another good question and difficult to answer. Featured prominently twice but mentioned in passing throughout the series actually. The character was only really a "focal point" twice. Also, there was something "different" about the character the second time around (in other words, try not to focus all of your efforts on a particular actor or actress who had exactly two appearances on Smallville).

And is the devastating loss the loss of a loved one, or the loss of property of some sort?

ahhh I had a feeling that question was coming and I'm really not sure how to answer it. I'm sure you could probably find an acting credit for the character the second time around (if you dug deep enough - I tried and I wasn't able to come with a name. Too obscure maybe?) As to the first time this character was featured, well I just don't know how to answer that part of the question...

The "loss" was a loved one. The character was not an "inmate" of any kind.
-m-

----- Added 8 Minutes later -----

I don't want to get killed on a technicality so I need to add something else. Depending on your definition of the phrase "featured prominently", there may actually be a THIRD episode in which this character was "featured prominently" (in my mind there were two - but to some, the episode in which the character is introduced into the series is "prominent" as well). Just for the sake of avoiding a "technical" debate, let's go with three. And with that in mind, the first two (early in the series) have much more in common with each other than the third, which comes much later in the series. I apologize if I'm confusing some of you. Think the first two appearances as one being a "continuation" of the other.

See now why I couldn't give you an answer about the actor who "played him" the first time he was featured? At that point in time, he was only a character in a book. By season 7, they made a movie and there WAS an actual actor in the part.

Could it be the security guard at LuthorCorp at the beginning of "Truth" (a former friend of Chloe's dad - the guy Chloe asked if Gabe had been "blacklisted") I believe she stole his security pass to get intot he facility. He didn't want to help Gabe/Chloe because he didn't want to lose his own job at Luthorcorp.

Jack Cole from LuthorCorp (he wasn't a security guard, more a middle management exec.) in Truth sounds plausible, except I can't remember a reference to a phone conversation with him elsewhere in the episode (could be wrong).

Actually, I just checked Truth again Mark, and I think you may be on the money with Jack Cole. He certainly had his security tag stolen by Chloe, he wouldn't help Gabe Sullivan for fear of repercussions for his own career, he actually spoke to Lana on the phone (he called for Chloe looking for his missing tag - not seen but mentioned by Lana to Clark at the Talon - she had taken the message from Cole), and he spoke to Chloe directly, at the beginning of the epi.

By "beneficiary of another character's superpower," do you mean that this person was helped by someone using his or her superpower (e.g. Clark makes a super-save, or Chloe heals the person), or that this person temporarily possessed the superpower?

Is the new place somewhere like jail or Belle Reve, or does the person move away from Smallville?

06-29-2008, 03:23 AM
A fair question MrsK. I was actually thinking it might be Maddie Van Horn in Fragile. If someone inherits from a will, they are a beneficiary. Maybe Mark is using the same context - Maddie inherited glass manipulating powers from her biological father, Tyler McKnight. She also lost her friend and carer Naomi (who Tyler killed at the beginning of the episode and Maddie said she liked and would never hurt, when Clark hinted that her thought Maddie may have killed her). She went to live with her Grandmother at the end of the episode.

Probably way off but it's all I've got at the moment.

"Beneficiary" as in the person uses their superpower to help the character. The character who benefitted never actually had any super power (even on a temporary basis). The new place is a new residence. Not a prison of any kind.

So we are waiting for more clues from Mark then?

His question is:

-I was the beneficiary of another character's superpower
-I lost a friend
-I went to live in a new place

MrsK
06-30-2008, 01:57 PM
And to sum up what we do know:

By "beneficiary" he means that a person uses their superpower to help the character.
The character who benefited never actually had any super power (even on a temporary basis).
The new place is a new residence. Not a prison of any kind.
The friend died, and is someone we saw on the show, not someone we just heard about.

It isn't Maddie Van Horn (Fragile).
We think we've ruled out Lana.
KF1 has guessed Sara Conroy (Slumber)

We are waiting to find out if it is a one-episode character or a main character.
I think it may also be time to ask whether it is Early, Middle, or Late.

----- Added 8 Minutes later -----

Main characters who have had a superpower and can be ruled out include: Clark, Lana, Chloe, Lex, Lionel, Jonathan, Whitney, and Pete. Which leaves Martha, Lois, Jimmy, and Jason.

Could be Lois.
She lost Wes Keenan.
She was the beneficiary of Clark's superpowers on many occasions, but never had any of her own.
She moved from the army base to the Kent farm, left there to move to the dorm at Met U, moved back to the farm when she was kicked out of school for drinking, left to go look for Lucy, moved back to the Kent farm, and finally moved to the Talon apartment.

I may be new here (relatively speaking), but I've read the rules. Calling attention to one's self (instead of the show) is not allowed. 07-01-2008, 04:38 AM
Right, my turn to summarize what we know from Mark's responses:

A character who was helped by a person with a superpower.
The superpowered person is NOT Clark,
The character is NOT fictional.
The character who benefited never actually had any super power (even on a temporary basis).
The character moves to a new place that is a new residence. Not a prison of any kind.
The character had a friend who died but in a different episode to that in which this character appeared, and this friend is someone we saw on the show, not someone we just heard about.
It's a multiple episode guest (not a main character) from an early (S1 or 2) season.

It's not Lana, Lois, Sarah Conroy, Maddie Van Horn, Harry Volk, Bella (Cool), Holly (Leech) or Javier. And we may need to think laterally or "adjust our thinking".

----- Added 22 Minutes later -----

Now in referring to this character, Mark never actually says "person". Mark, is your character an actual human being? Is it living - like a pet or some other animal? Or is it like the green alien, a non-living character?

----- Added 55 Minutes later -----

I reckon it might be Tyson, Whitney's horse.
He was saved by Cyrus Krupp with his healing power in Visitor.
Tyson lost his friend Whitney earlier in Season 2, at the beginning of Visage.
Tyson was moved from the Fordman's stables to the Kent Farm, because Mrs Fordman couldn't afford to stable him anymore.
And we saw him in quite a few episodes. (Was he the horse that kept nudging KK in the back in the gag reel scenes from Phoenix?)

----- Added 1 Hours and 22 Minutes later -----

I'm reasonably confident that Tyson is correct. If not then obviously Mark can tell me to pull my head in!!!! :)

I'll put one up just to keep things rolling:

I was friendly with Clark
I said something that confused a main star
I knew someone who was not being their normal self.
I am a living, breathing human being!! :)
Who am I?

----- Added 3 Hours and 30 Minutes later -----

Is this a one or two-ep character, skully?

If not, seems to me it could be Pete - he was Clark's close friend; in Truth, he told Chloe that Clark was running to Metropolis for some hot dogs, which definitely confused her; he knew Clark on Red K in Red and Rush, also Chloe in Rush.

MrsK
07-01-2008, 01:46 PM

She confused Jason when she asked him if he had somebody special (since it was none of her business)

So it's an unnamed (e.g. doctor, guard, etc. - or is it something even more general like man or woman?), one-episode character who failed to do something at a critical moment.
Is that when he/she was injured?
Does this person have lines, and if so, are they only in the background?
Was the person with the ability someone other than Clark?

A good set of questions that will PROBABLY lead you to the answer Mrs. K.
-He/she was injured DURING his/her failure at a critical moment

I suffered because of my association with someone with a powerful enemy
I appreciate a good meal
I was played by two different actors/actressesHow about Madeleine Evans from Spell? She suffered because of her association with Isobelle Theroux (burnt at the stake by Magistrate Wilkins - thoust was not pleasant!!). She certainly was keen to chow down in the barn at the Kent farm ("The food is so good in this century!" at the party for Chloe's birthday). And she was played by two actresses - Lara Gilchrist as the 17th century witch and Allison Mack as Madeleine-in-Chloe.

I'm gonna say is was the mother who was waiting for the elevator in Bound. The one who (along with her two kids) saw Chloe and Clark reinact the sultry elevator "scene" between Lex and his one night stand. She did appear disgusted by it. As for "hard-working" she is, I can't account for that. Unless you count taking the stairs instead of the elevator, lol. :)

-M-Cheers Mark, and you are absolutely correct on the hard working Mom. She was the lady outside the lift with the twins (very hard work I'm told!! :)) in Bound. She was shocked at Chloe and Clark's bodylock in the lift and she interrupted their role-play in trying to work out where the missing ear-ring was.

Well done.

MrsK
07-08-2008, 11:39 AM
Okay, this may be a stretch, but what about Oliver?
Lois calls him telepathic in Wither when he anticipated her visit...
Abilities as an archer; Green Arrow
Painful cut to his hand in Rage when he broke the glass.

Only actual telepaths I can think of are Ryan, who doesn't fit the other clues; MM, who you've already ruled out; probably Jor-El, who always seems to know what Clark is thinking; and possibly AC, if you consider Aquaman's ability to communicate telepathically with fish. Still they don't fit the other clues. Does the past tense in the question mean the person is dead?

skully
07-08-2008, 04:55 PM
Not Oliver, or Ryan or AC or Jor-El.

This person does not use their telepathic ability as a weapon but clearly has the ability to read someone else's mind (the person knows what another is are about to say and can respond immediately). The person does use their other ability as a weapon. This ability is the prominent thing than that can be remembered from the one-episode the person appeared in. And the painful injury to the extremity is clear and obvious. The person actually says how painful it was.
