In Clark's first dream in Slumber, Lex related the story of the strongest of the Katai warriors turning on his own people and killing them one by one until the last remaining Katai struck the evil Katai warrior with the sword (Lex had it hanging on the study wall) and cut the evil warrior clean in half, only to see there was nothing in the armor (i.e. "he wasn't even human"). Lex then smashed the sword on Clark's forearm (which was a scene in the Season 5 opening credits) and said "Just like you, Clark."
