Watching this episode the first time, I felt like there were so many commercials, and less smallville. I usually feel that, but I've timed episodes before, and they have been just short of normal. But this episode, it especially felt shorter than others, so watching it a second time with my dad (I record it for him so we can watch it together when he gets home), I decided to time it. This episode was only 36 minutes long.

Episodes used to run 43-46 minutes long.

We were jipped.

I am very proud of maryjanewatson.
Yes, I did not time it, but boy a lot of this episode was left on the cutting room floor.
Yes we were jipped, but at the end of this episode, I was so hungry for more.
I have not seen an episode of smallville in recent memory that made me want to see more in a long time.
Like I know we were jipped, but sometimes its quality over quantity.
I could have watched #7-13 "Hero" for 65 minutes, and nothing would make me want to see more of that episode.
Seeing only a short veritas episode, made me starving for more smallville.
Sometimes just a taste of something great can make you want something so much more.
Do you know what I mean?

But still, I want a full episode, dangit!!!! We don't get a new episode for another 3 weeks, and the episode they leave off on is short!!

why so proud of me? XD (thanks though, lol)

sitting there timing an episode took work.
That is actual scientific analysis and it took effort.
You had an idea, you tested it.

maryjanewatson , you were scientific in your analysis.

(I test software for a living, and yes I am geek in real life).

They cut scenes from the episode, since it was supposed to be the final episode.

One of my pet peeves has been when people say "jipped". THe word has its roots from the word "Gypsy" and was used in France back in the day when someone was cheated or robbed by a gypsy they were "Gypped". Sorry to be the grammar police. Just something that always bothered me! but if people don't know the history of a word you can't fault them for spelling it as phonetically as possible.

^^ Actually, that's really interesting. Thanks for the history lesson. I love etymology.

Ah someone else just like me :D

For the topic...I know how you feel maryjane, when it's an episode like that, I'd love for them to be longer.

ME too! I took a class in it once when I was considering majoring in English.

Without the commercials and the ink bottle exploding, the exact time I got was 39.12 minutes.

actually they have been running barely 40 mins long in the past few years, in season 1 to three maybe we got 42-43 but never 46. You need to tell me which epi lasted 46 mins ;)

Last night it ran 37 and a bit. They cut a chuck out of it. It was going to be a long one because they started with about 4 mins in the opening.

I'm talking time from begining to where Joe Davola's name appears. That's when I stop the VCR it was 37 mins 38 seconds

I also time smallville without the commercials and they are between 43-47 minutes long..That's not long enough for me

I noticed it was around 35 minutes too, thanks for timing it. :)

Episodes were around 42 to 44 minutes in the past seasons, don't know what happened, maybe they arr making episodes smaller so when the Season Finale/Premiere comes it will be longer.

Wow, I didn't notice the commercials. I guess it's because I have watched so much ncaa basketball lately and they have sooooo many commercials on during that. But good job timing it.

They started cutting episodes down to 40 - 42.5 minutes around mid-S4. The only eps. to run over 45 minutes are the pilot and "Commencement." ;)

"Veritas" did feel like it was very short, though. I guess because at least two full scenes were taken out and will be shown in future episodes.

yes it was shorter but the obvious reason for that was it had alot took out because it was supposed to be the season finale but was changed

but it still was an awesome episode

quality over quantity my friend..............quality over quantity........*rubs chin and eats cookies with raised eyebrow*

That makes sense. It's understandable as well.

If this was meant as the last episode due to the strike, I'm glad they took out the scenes that would have made this a finale.

Better to lose 5 minutes of one episode in order to get 5 additional episodes.

Actually I just found episodes of Veritas online and it says 39 minutes. Still short of what it normally is but still more than 36 minutes.
