I don't intend to bash the episode here but I did feel uncomfortable with the Lionel/Chloe scene. I liked the concept of these old antagonists dueling it out over Clark's secret etc. but something in the way the writers wrote it and the actors played it (AM especially) really gave me an unpleasant taste.

To me, Lionel and Chloe basically seemed like devoted acolytes of the great god (yuck!) Clark Kent, galactic traveler extraordinaire. Chloe actually the cold, devoted priestess, turning down the wretched fallen acolyte who'd angered her master etc. I know I'm exaggerating -and mixing metaphors even- but I really didn't like the way everything revolved around Clark.

Normally I love when people -and the show- actually makes him the center of SV. After all, I tune in primarily for Superman in the making. But it wasn't cool this time. It felt fanatical and quasi-religious.

Sorry for the late night rant. *sigh* Can anyone see what I'm saying?

Whoa. Big words . Well Clark is suppose to represent the "Sun God" is he not?

But seriously, yeah, I can get what you're saying...I thought the character reactions in the scene were a little out of character for both of them. It was good acting and all, i just didn't see much setup preceding it.

No, I think you've taken an innocent scene where Chloe doesn't listen to Lionel because she firmly believes he is still an MB, even though Lionel knows the truth because he is Jor-El's emissary, and blown it out of proportion into something it was never intended to be, either metaphorically or literally.

Yeah... I'm thinking you're reading too much into it. I can understand your point of view, but I don't think that was the true message they were giving out. While I was watching that all I actually did think, "Wow, I wonder how people are going to take that?", so I really do get why you say that.

The Veritas meeting, I think they were referring to the "Traveler" being like a god because of their knowledge of how this alien race has been visiting us and is so powerful, like a God.

I think Chloe's little metaphor about Clark being like god was more in line with his inate goodness, his need to see the good in everyone, and ability to forgive are akin to God, but that is as close as Lionel will ever get to knowing any god, because Chloe thinks he will go to hell.

Lionel just took Chloe's metaphor and tried to turn it on her, to convince her he is a changed man and he is trying to make up for his past sins by being there for Clark.

I admit I did a doubletake when I heard that all though, it's so rare that religion or god is mentioned on the show. I was a little surprised.
