Hello everyone longtime kryptonsite reader second time poster. The reason I have finally decided to post after all these long years of reading is to vent my frustration of really the past 4 seasons of Smallville but what has really sunk the boat was tonight’s episode of Veritas.

Okay lets start from the beginning I am a Superman ubernerd I enjoy Batman and Spiderman and everyone else but Superman will always be the first and foremost greatest comic book hero of all time. So when I heard there would be a Superman tv show about his teenage years in Smallville I was excited. There hadn’t been a live Superman show since Lois and Clark and with todays post matrix graphics I knew we would be viewing Superman and his powers in a whole new way. Even when I heard he wouldn’t wear glasses and Lex Luthor would be on the show I was actually intrigued. When the show premiered I loved it all the roles I thought were perfectly cast and the story was interesting overall I was very happy. I even thought the kryptonite powered bad guy was a good idea along with Lionel Luthor being a part of the show. As the show progressed I remained interested in episode 4 he gained his x-ray vision which I thought was excellent the idea of him not having all his powers right now. Episode 6 when the elderly lady sees Lex’s future and the bloody rain, and who can forget the explosive season finale of Clark running into the tornado now that is a cliffhanger.

I thought season 2 started off well resolving the first seasons cliffhangers and Clark telling Johnathon he felt like he was flying in the tornado. It was moments like that. That made me fall in love with Smallville but those moments are long gone. Not that the show hasn’t had an incredible run. More great moments like Clark discovering heat vision, ice breath, super hearing, his kryptonian heritage, Christopher Reeves, the JLA just SO many great moments but the last few seasons I am just left feeling like “Haven’t I seen this like 5 times already?”. I mean the way OVERUSED “freak of the week”, the Lionel has been shot, no Lex has been shot, no this week its Lana, no wait Clark has been shot. I mean come on use some imagination writers we have seen this all too many times and we KNOW Clark and Lex aren’t going to die.

I can understand Al and Miles “motto” at the start of the series of no flights, no tights but my God after 7 years let it GO!! I know we have seen him fly but he was “Kal-El” at that time and the no tights I’m still all for that. Plus it wouldn’t work anyway because he doesn’t wear glasses. Thats another point do Al and Miles really believe the audience is that stupid. Clark has been out of high school what 2 years now? How is anybody not going to recognize him when he goes to Metropolis and becomes the Man of Steel. I am 99% sure Lex already knows Clark has the powers anyway he is just over trying to catch him or whatever. So do they really think that we are going to believe when Clark moves to Metropolis Lex isn’t going to know Clark is Superman. Come on.

I had already stopped watching every episode this season which was really hard to do when for the past 6 years I had made a point of being in front of my tv on Thursday nights at 8:00. But I think honestly shows like Heroes and Lost ruined it for me when they showed that shows with people with extraordinary powers don’t just have to be about the extraordinary powers you can actually put together AMAZING stories and maybe Smallville has never had these amazing stories and I have just been oblivious because I didn’t know any better but I do now.

Anyway like I stated I decided to only watch the episodes that caught my eye this season and the last 3 did that. The commercials of the next 3 episodes will change the future of Smallville forever and blah blah blah. I should have known from before when the same thing was said about Season 5 when Johnathon passed away. If they would have kept with what they had originally and left Lana dead I believe this show would be something completely different. (Not saying anything about Kristin Kreuk she’s great.) But I believe Lana holds Clark back it’s always Lana this and Lana that if they would have taken Lana out of the equation what would the show be today?

I thought the first 30 mintues of that episode the 100th episode was the best of Smallville EVER. From him taking Lana to the fortress and “flying/jumping” to that upper area and then proposing. To Lex’s amazing look when he saw Clark superspeed to Lana’s crash. THAT is great television and THAT would have changed Smallville forever. But I let it go they needed to let Johnathon pass on and thats how they decided to do it.

But after tonights episode they have put the final nail in the coffin for me. I admire Al and Miles and everyone else who is a part of Smallville and have really enjoyed a lot of what they have done but I do believe it is over. When I read the description for tonight’s episode Veritas “Kara teaches Clark to fly.” I knew this was it FINALLY after 7 long seasons we would get to see it no that wasn’t Clark it was “Kal-El” flying or was he jumping there? I thought he was actually going to fly but no I should have known the writers of Smallville have once again spit in my face and made a fool of me. I mean he didn’t even TRY to fly he just said “we should be looking for Brainiac” COME ON!!!!!

But this was just 30 minutes into the episode so I said to myself we still have time its going to happen. Then when Kara and Brainiac flew off the Daily Planet I just knew I KNEW Clark would fly after them but no the writers were laughing in my face once again saying “ You actually thought we would have him fly HAHAHAHA no he is never going to fly.” Also after reading it was eithier Al or Miles saying that they went into this episode and “raised” the cliffhanger because they thought this would be the last episode of season 7 because of the writers strike. What cliffhanger? Kara dissappearing with Brainiac? So. Lana in a comatose state? So. I have seen it before.

No wonder Kristin has only agreed to appear in a few episodes next season and Micheal hasn’t agreed on anything. The only glimmer of hope I got from this episode was Lionel’s ranting and raving about whats coming (even though I have heard that before) I am really really really hoping what is coming is DarkSeid. If you have read the spoilers page you will notice that a upcoming episode is titled Apocalypse. This could be explosive!!!!!!! But looking at the past I am just wishful thinking or it will happen and they will screw it up. Now I don’t like being negative I absolutely love this show and I have every season on dvd and nothing against Al and Miles I thought Spider-man 2 was EXCELLENT congrats to them. But I really believe the last breath of Smallville was that 100th episode when they teased me with that outstanding 30 minutes in the beginning and laughed at me with the final 30 minutes.

Al, Miles, writers anybody who has any influence on the show any may read this please I beg you I know you can’t salvage what’s left of this season. But start anew next season we all know it will be your final season explore new territory you won’t have Lana weighing Clark down Lex probably isn’t going to be around. Think outside the box and make this the best storytelling of Superman anyone has ever seen. I believe in you.

Sorry, but I can't quite put myself up to reading it.

Maybe an "Enter" or two would help... But I'll try reading it as is. Congrats on typing all that, though. ;)

jesus, when a man needs to get something off his chest watch out!

Now I actually got through that long post. and to sum it up. Most of the dedicated viewers feel similarly, we don't give up no matter how much the show disappoints us, and neither should you.

And what the heck did gough & miles do for Spidey 2???

No offense meant here dude, but could you put the last part of this post in a letter and snail mail it to me? I'd have more time to read it that way.

Please edit this post by logging on and clicking the edit button at the bottom of the actual post. Generally no one wants to read something this long. Keep that in mind next time. Welcome to the forums though! :)

felt like i was reading a review there for a sec but i understand your frustration. i enjoy the show for what it is but i do hope they hold nothing back next seson and go out with a bang. The show and the fans of the show deserve it!

Just gazed through it and I have to say I disagree with most of it. You say that you've seen the plots before yet the plots are repeated somehow in other Superman media as well. Are they supposed to strike Lana with some disease that's never heard of before, so that you can be content because it's "original"?

Basically nothing is original these days. Spiderman 2 wasn't even original. You could see that some of the plots used in that were used in other shows too. Most of the original stuff was basically used back in the 1970s. Now the just have to recreate stuff and add some special touches to make it seem unused.

In Heroes, the show is pretty well liked and all. But the characters have powers that other characters in the sci-fi universe have had as well. Yet people don't complain about that. So why does there have to be complaints about the good girl disappearing with the villain?

Dude - when writing, think "lots of white space". People are more likely to read it.

I think that it's well-thought out and all, but putting it in paragraph form would help. I don't necessarily agree with it b/c it's like he/she is saying that Al/Miles have done nothing for the past 2 seasons with being "original" while IMO they reference Spiderman 2 where Peter gets thrown around for most of the movie and then comes back and wins at the end of the day. Seems like a common plot on TV shows. :\

Well, I read it all and let me first welcome you to Kryptonsite, and I know what you mean. Although I have enjoyed more of the episodes than you (I thought season 6 was great), I must say I as well as you was very dissapointed with tonight's episode. I think it is largely because it was re-shot or rewritten...since it really is a two-parter, anyway it felt incomplete and nothing got resolved...I don't know.

I still have faith, and this far into the game there is no way I'm giving up on this show.

Lost is different, though. With Lost you are used to the whole mystery thing and things keep piling up and piling up and you wish and hope that at the end you will finally KNOW. But Veritas was just...'so that's it?'

But Veritas was just...'so that's it?'

IMO, "Veritas" was supposed to be a pile-on-questions episode instead of a deliver-some-answers episode (if that's what you meant :o). Seeing as how it's going to be the last episode for two weeks, it should leave us with more questions than answers, so that we can anticipate "Descent" even more.

Okay I spaced it out I apologize for that but I typed it in word and copied and pasted. I didn't even think about spacing and to answer your question about what do Al and Miles have to do with Spidey 2. They wrote the screenplay.
