I have never been more impressed with his work!
His emotional scenes any way...I almost cried, and I hate hate hate Lana. Just the way
he sat by her....touched her face, closed her eyes...and pretty much cried. He had me
convinced. Very nice job! :)

i'm sick of the angst...i like his comical lighter acting better...which we rarely see it usually emerges when he's around Lois.

Call me a sap, but I cried, just like when Jonathan died. When those Clark loves are in so much pain, anyone can relate and when Tom was crying and Chloe was starting to, ah man, it was a beautiful scene...

I agree. You could feel the emotion just bursting out of the TV screen. He did a great job.

I also enjoy happy laugh laugh Clark, we never get to see that. And I'm guessing we won't for a little while longer since Lana is in that catatonic state.

Maybe Chloe can cheer him up and make him laugh! I need some more Chlark scenes.

The only part that got to me was the "You're too late, Kal-el." That was really well done. But like some of you guys mentioned, we've seen this from Clark so many times, so I was barely affected by it.

The last time I saw Tom protrayed this absolute acting of pain was when Johnthan died in Reckoning and Tom protraying his loss in Vengeance. Absoultely perfect then and absoultely perfect now.

I've always thought he was pretty good at being emotional, I remember the S5 episode when Brainy poisoned Martha, that was the most memorable one till this last scene

Tom good job. With the angel statue in the background like in S5 of his dad funeral an angel in the background too.

He has always been ok at emotional scenes....but there's always a point when he gasps or something...and it ruins it for me. Like he breaks character for a second, and it's over. But not this time...If this was my first time watching smallville I would have thought those two were madly in love, and his heart was breaking. So...maybe he is too convincing, because I'm not sure they are madly in love! :)

Tom can act, I think that he has a future after Smallville. Kristin can act, she has a future after Smallville. Allison can act, she has a future after Smallville.

I was too busy laughing at the "Kal-El...you're too late" line to notice TW's acting...KK owned him in that scene! For someone who wants Lana gone, it felt like Christmas in March! :D

It had to pretty emotional for Tom and Kristin knowing that this would be the last scene together they may have for awhile, so maybe it helped Tom break down in the last scene.:(

So, I TOTALLY think that TW is a great actor. He has grown incredibly since S1, but I have to admit that for all my TW love, his sad scenes always make me laugh because it always seems so forced with him. Like he is trying to squeeze out the tears. This was only the second time in SV history that his "sad" made me cry. The other scene was the one in Vengence at the end when he sobs on Martha's shoulder. Yay for Tom! If he keeps getting better and better like he does, the sky's the limit...........

Uhm...no pun intended.

It was a very good scene. Tom's an excellent actor. As good as this episode was though, I just couldn't help being frustrated by it. I wanted more, not more from the actors, but more story. I want to know what Lionel's been protecting for so many years, I want to know what is inside of the mailbox in Switzerland. I want Clark to fight back!

One hour (and technically, what? 43 minutes, if you take out the commercials) just isn't enough. I can't wait for April 17th!

^ Ditto too many cliffhangers. But about the end scene, I thought there should have been a good close-up with Tom crying. Mostly you saw Clark burying his face in hands. Like yeah, the whole touching thing with Lana was very good, but yeah I just wanted to see that camera angle lol. I thought Alison was really good with her crying scene as well, though I would've liked to see that kinda close-up on Tom for abit. Yeah that scene was sad :( my eyes automatic started watering and I'm like whoa :( and I'm not an easy one to crack with sad scenes normally so yeah great acting, great music and atmosphere in that scene. lol it's kinda sad but I found that scene one of the better clana scenes of the season! Like even though, Lana didn't talk- it's just the care that Clark showed for Lana was better in that scene then normally shown.

exsqueeze me? Did you NOT see the ending of "Vengeance" when Clark cried with his mom at the end. Tom seemed so genuine in that scene. It gets me crying every time, and I don't normally cry watching TV shows. In fact, I think thats the only time I have actually cried cried during a TV show. I've been sad for characters before, maybe got a bit misty eyed, but never really cried. But that scene at the end of "Vengeance" got me tears-falling crying.

------

Anyways, ya, about todays ending scene; while it didn't get me crying, I definitely felt the emotion. I wish, though, that Clark would have said to Lana something like: "I know you can hear me. I am so sorry I let this happen (as he always blames himself). I love you.... so much....." then put his head on her knee's like he did.

smallvillerocks45

Yeah. Emotionally, it was the ending of "Vengeance" that had me in tears, but that being said, I felt sad about the situation that Clark, Lana, and Chloe found themselves in at the end of "Veritas." Clark and Chloe's best friend is being controlled by a machine, and Lana (the one being tortured) can't do anything about it. That's heartbreaking, but it is also why Clark needs to fight back. I'm looking forward to it.

Yeah, Tom was sooooo amazing and that last scene...uff, it was so sad and I think it was perfect as it was, no more words needed to be said by Clark. His face said everything.
I really felt so with him but I didn't cry. I cried at the end of "Vengeance" like many others seemed to have, too.

And yes, this episode was so short or it felt so short, I don't know. I just was like "huh, is it over or what??"

How are we supposed to wait till april the 17th????

Tom's a great actor; no question and he was great in the last scene despite the stupidity of the plot and circumstance. But come on! Tom doesn't get emotional and cry because he's not going to be seeing KK for a while. He's an actor who can do the job really well and it has nothign whatsoever to do with KK.

It was an emotional scene to watch. Clark really loves Lana (whether you do or not) and they've gone through a lot together over the years.
I think seeing Chloe crying at the end also did me in, lol.

On a side note: Does anyone know the name of the SONG/ or band that played during that scene at the end? It was very sad.

The episode was frustrating for me. Too many cliffhangers, not enough story, not enough of anything really, and no flying.

But I did love the scene at the end. It was remarkable. Not as sad as the one at the end of Vengeance, but very close. I don't know why but I surprised myself - I started to cry... a lot! The emotion that I already had in me plus that was like an atomic bomb xD
Tom Welling and Allison Mack are fantastic actors. I could feel that Clark was truly hurting, and Chloe also.

The song at the end was great. It is called "One More Day" by Vast. Excellent, and by a few different artists, but this version is my favorite.

Toms final scene was awsome. He cried for Lana, the only other time he has sobbed was when his dad died. This was one of my favorite moments, Clark shows how much Lana really means to him. Lana is well aware of it too, even though she's traped in her body.

 You laughed? Huh??

:D ;) To the rest of you who appreciated TW's emotional acting, and can appreciate that he's continued to grow in talent and skill since his time on Smallville, I'm happy to join you. I've commented on several occasions, though, that I wish Clark would laugh more or that a light-hearted episode should be inserted maybe once a season to balance out all the angst; it would give us an emotional 'break'. However, I don't think we Really want that, because as 'Devoted' Smallville fans, we know that Smallville's Clark Kent story is an emotional, angst-filled one, which is why a large portion of SV's fanbase flocks to watch each new episode. :p "Veritas" was definately no exception. Along with TW's rewarding performance, JG, AM, JM All delivered exceptional emotional performances. KK, because her performance was supposed to be devoid of emotion since she was a prisoner in her own body controlled by Brainac, but That is what made it so incredibly Sad and effective. TOM's performance in that last scene lingers in my emotional memory like the taste of something you've eaten that was very flavorful lingers on the tongue.

No he's always been able to pull it off. It's just the way his character is portrayed is someone who's become somewhat jaded and uncomfortable expressing his emotions.

Tom was absolutely amazing.
Its nothing new to me to cry at Smallville, i cry at anything, i'm ridiculous that way
But i think he was absolutely amazing in the scene. You could feel his pain and guilt burning through the screen. Especially when Chloe came in and you saw him, just leaning over Lana, crying.
Thats the part that got to me the most.

Yeah that last scene is certainly one of those scenes that I'll remember when it comes to Smallville.I'm not even a TW fan in particular but I can't say enough how good he is in playing emotional scenes especially with KK/Lana.I am very happy that he got casted as Clark Kent.

I thought that last scene was some of Tom's best stuff too. The pain in his eyes, the anguish. But it was the last shot, the pull back of him with his head bowed in deep despair, as if he'd finally given up, had his spirit broken, that was the real capper for me.

Now that's TW at his best. When you can feel waves of despair and anguish coming off the screen like that.

Kudos to Welling for that moment.

I remember in the season 4 dvd commentary of Transference with John Glover saying that when he had to play the emotional scene with Martha, as he was portraying Clark trapped in Lionel's body, he was acting all upset and emotional. The director told him that Clark never acts that way and he had to play the scene more in control of his emotions. This is why we so rarely get to see emotional Clark. I think this is why people sometimes complain about TW. I think he does a great job as Clark.
