I know I was a little shocked that she was killed at the end of the episode.
The question is should the writers have killed her off or had her potentially recur on the show?

You should know by now that anyone who isn't a part of the inner circle that learns about Clark is killed 9 times out of 10 with the acception of Dr. Swann. There isn't any suspense for me anymore in regards to people learning Clark's secret. Either they are main characters and they were eventually going to find out anyways, or they aren't main characters, and they end up being killed at the end of the episode. I was thinking the whole episode that PS was going to be killed off, and when they stopped the limo, I said to myself "Here it comes".

I was shocked when they killed off Patricia Swann. I was wondering what they were gonna do with her for the rest of the season. the car driver answered that question

When she told Clark that she wanted to be alongside him on his journey to "change the world", I was really looking forward to that. I thought she was just going to take Dr. Swann's place. I mean, were they going to eventually kill off Dr. Swann if Christopher Reeve didn't pass away? I think that would've been terrible.

Maybe keep her around for Veritas and Descent, I totally agree with you Ymmij!

I was only shocked because I wasn't expecting it, but I can't say I'm surprised. And I think Lex knew all along that locket was more than just a trinket.

Um are we sure she is really dead I mean she was shot but we never saw her dead body all we know for sure is that her driver shot her and gave lex her necklace she could have been left for dead and have been found by oliver and his proto justice league. We have seen several other character die in smallville and come back from the dead one way or another why not patricia swann.

Ditto on the hotness.

They should not have killed her off, if she is indeed dead. Perhaps it would have been appropriate that Chloe save her???????? I truly believe she could have been yet another person in the shadows helping Clark move forward.

I don't know if she didn't die then how did Lex get the necklace w/ blood on it?

I have never felt so strongly about a character needing to be kept around on any show, okay other than Kara. The mere thought of Patricia Swann replacing Chloe has me literally jumping out of my skin with excitement. This has to happen. I would start a petition if I had the technical knowledge to make one.

No, she should of stayed alive.

I don't know if she didn't die then how did Lex get the necklace w/ blood on it?

Driver shoots her, presumes she's dead, rips the necklace off her and leaves. That's how.
A passing motorist or citizen calls 911, she's taken to the hospital and recovers.

In the same way Chloe runs into a "safe house" that blows up 2 seconds after she gets inside and is alive today, not everyone shot and left for dead actually die.

FWIW, I think she is dead but it's ashame because she was an interesting character.

Have they started production on the last 5 episodes of this season yet? We should start a save Patricia Swan online petition.

Only 3 other character have made me feel as dissapointed and sad at their departure as P Swan.

They were Bo Kent, Alicia and Raya. Two of those were hot, i'd say all three if i was into older men but funny thing...

I liked Bo Kent but I know that he had to die to further the Clark/Superman transformation. At least they still talk about him in later episodes unlike most of the other characters who have come and gone.

One of the things that has always annoyed me about Smallville is how they will bring in a complex character to make an impact on Clark, make that impact with the subtlty of tapping down a few nails with a back-hoe and then kill the character off before anything can get complicated. The notable exception of course being Oliver Queen, and maybe Alicia I mean she was around for a whopping THREE episodes.
The writers seem afraid or unable to write a real story arc that might make them need to write interaction with the other main characters. Can you imagine Alicia/Lex dialogue?

I would have loved to have seen Clark have a REAL relationship with Alicia, I mean it was Episode one: Crazy Stalker Girl
Episode two: Is she Crazy? Stalker Doctor.
Episode three: Might still be crazy and now she's dead, Clark feels bad.
They could have still killed her off but had her in more episodes, which would have at least had a genuinly happy Clark, some drama because it was no Lana or Chole and Clark could just be himself.

Raya, same deal they could have had her teach Clark more about his family and Krypton and then killed her off with much more emotion, instead of the characteristic: "Here I am, here take some knowledge and fries, goodbye *gunshot*"

But I'm not bitter in anyway.

(On a side note the cop out for the writers is P. Swann got shot in the leg to keep her from running away, taken to Lex where she is being interrogated indefinitly in case the writers ever need to bring her back to explain a celestial event before knocking her off again)

Well first lionel knows more about veritas than patricia. Patricia could never replace chloe. patricia was everything clark doesnt want to be. She came off to me as knowing very little and aroogant. Hi son of krypton DR. swann is my dad you should come with me because i am the only one who can protect you. Clark should have said lady I respect your dad but you really don't know me my friends and life are here. I'm not just packing up and going with you because you have some journal. I am not just going to become someone just because you think so. I found her annoying and ill informed. her arrogance thinking I have proof on lionel he will crumble and give me the traveler. Come on he was in jail with proof of killing his own parents and walked out for all patricia knew. She looked dumb i thought in the episode thinking she knew more and didnt know any players of the game. She got the journal to clark. She "gave" (by flaunting it in front of lex) the necklace and key to lex (bringing it into the picture). Lionel will let us know what the key is about " what is coming is so terrible". PS served her purpose. I just regret that the char wasn't more informed. Shge was just a brat kid who found her daddy's gun so to speak.

lex has issues. i was like "dude if you wanted her necklace ya could've just asked!"

That made me giggle :)

It was a pity Patricia Swann became such a rapid P.S. (postscript) - interesting possibilities as a character, and darned attractive as regards the actress fleshing her out ...

No they shouldn't have.

I found her annoying, to be honest. Lionel had it right.

"You're still that bossy little girl you used to be."

I had to laugh at this.

"Turn over the son of Krypton, or I will release the evidence linking you to their murders."

I was like, what he's a collectable for a shelf? So I can see why Lionel was so protective of Clark and tried to be smug and laugh it off.

In retrospect; the method Lionel used to protect Clark and himself was bad, but the cause was good. But to be fair, he didn't know what her intentions where.

But I like how they wrote this episode, it proved that Lionel is influenced by how he used to do things still. Like he uses his methods he used to use to do good things instead of bad, it's an intresting dynamic.

All in all this episode was very good, I would of loved it if they added a deleted scene where Chloe tried to call Oliver and the guys but they wouldn't be able to get their soon, it would of tied up the lose ends of the episode a bit.

I'm not going to say it's surprising (because Gina Holden is such a great actress), but it's interesting how many fans liked her so much. It's not like Lana or Alicia where it's split 50/50, some hate her and some love her.

The role of Patricia Swann was so... poised. She came off as incredibly intelligent and gentle, but also strong and determined. I can't think of too many guest stars on Smallville that I have actually thought about times if they were still alive or still on the show (with the exception of more main characters such as Pete, Dr. Brice, Jonathan (of course), Martha and Lionel).

Should they have killed her off? According to myself and the large majority of the fans, no. But in means of the overall plot, her death just showed us how evil Lex had become and how far he'll go to get what he wants. Not to mention that entire scene with her and her driver with the limo was beautifully shot and sent shivers down my spine.

Christopher Reeve died like five years ago I thought.

So what? What does his death have to do with anything?

In any case, I did enjoy her character and it was shocking to see her die, but I think she should have...the less people who know the secret, the better.

I really enjoyed her. She added an incredible mature, elegant quality to the show which is sometimes needed. She was a fantastic choice for the role, and I am disappointed we wont see more of her.
