Am I the only one who felt sorry for him at the end?

Sure his ways of taking care of people are rather screwy, but he was going to let Clark out once he was sure Patrica wasn't a threat. Never seen him so broken and defeated before. He was down right begging. :(

i felt sorry for him in a small way... not because i thought he deserved to be forgiven... but because he seemed so utterly confused... i mean there was still this small part of him saying 'why the hell did you do that, your crazy' and then the other part of him reasoning that it was for the greater good

but its not the first time, i mean i never really understood why he forced Lana to marry lex, and how he got away with that

I went into this episode thinking that the MB was back, but now I feel Lionel is still trying to be good. He just really sucks at it, and has no idea how exactly to do so. I think his intentions for Clark's safety were good, but after years of using people and making their decisions for them, I don't know that it occurred to him that Clark wouldn't appreciate this plan.

i dont think it occured to him he would get caught...

when you think bout it, it was pretty sloppy of him not to cover his tracks... loads of refined meteor rock being shipped to a factory in luthor corps name and he didnt even cover it up

Exactly, he wants to be good, he just sucks at it. That's sad. He's trying, he needs help. Clark abandoning him isn't going to help anything but make Lionel more dangerous. Telling him he hasn't changed is kind of dumb anyway... Lionel could destroy Clark's life with the snap of his finger but he doesn't, Clark should give him so benefit of the doubt for that alone.

Ehh! His plan was to get Patricia's proof that he took out the Queens and Mr. Teague. He thought of his own delimma first, and was willing to hurt Clark to satisfy his needs. He deserved what he had coming. Lionel was confused because he had no way to make things right and if it was only about Veritas, an unknown seeker, he would have told Clark what he knew, but he needed that proof first and that's why he did what he did.

I did believe Lionel when he said he had never meant the cage for Clark. Clearly Lionel didn't want to find himself in jail for murder yet again. He couldn't protect Clark in his own special way, haha. Lionel has no problem to resorting to his old ways when he is threatened.

Yeah I felt sorry I think they made a good team - but on the other hand did you pay attention to some of the key words in the episode ? Ulterior motive - wanting Clark for himself - the luthors help when it suits their interest - Well I think this might give good clues as to what's to come for Lionel - so he isn't committing suicide anytime soon :D
