seriously, where is the progression here? He gets trapped in the most asinine way. We want to see Clark doing the saving not being saved by his girlfriend, his cousin and his sidekick...pathetic.
When will the Superman in Clark emerge? We are nearing the end of Season 7 with one more season to go and i see very little progression in him.

AW. I think Clark learned some great lessons in this one, especially from Kara and Swann's daughter. And I loved the Clark/Luthor rivalry progression in this one. I can't wait for "Veritas"!

Indeed and I'm fed up of the haters that post nothing but stuff like this all the time...

I can't wait for Veritas, too. But not because of Clark, the Luthor thing got me very intrigued. Clark in this one was the biggest doofus. Where the hell was super hearing and superspeed in this episode?

Is it just me, or do the writers suddenly not care about Lana. She was there for pure plot progression and than completley left out of the second part. Seems weird since she is supposed to be the girlfriend. Not that I'm complaining.

I knew this thread was coming the *moment* I read the spoiler! Congratulations, OP, you ARE a cliche! Good for you. :/
Seriously, Clark being saved by his FRIENDS AND FAMILY is a *good* thing. Him being a loner who has no friends or family would be anti-Superman. His friends and family saving him is PURE Superman, because the world loves Superman, even when he's in trouble.

I don't see it that way, the portal seems to work for only 2 pwoplw at a time and after that it was up to Kara not Chloe nor Lana to save Clark, simple really...

Someone in another thread mentioned the idea that Lana may have been left at the portal to in some way guard it.

I'll be the first to say that Clark has some serious growing to do before he becomes Superman. But really, I'm not about to put him down because he had to be saved. Kryptonite is his weakness. He was in a cage of Kryptonite. Yeah, let's see Clark get himself out of THAT one on his own.
The barn scene could have definitely been improved. But really, I would rather see a Clark that stays and fights than a Clark that runs away and hides. He didn't think to use superhearing because he thought it was Lana coming to see him. And if he ran, those guys would have stuck around and held Lana hostage, while Clark was sitting pretty hiding somewhere.
Again, not saying Clark doesn't have his faults. Just all IMHO.

I'd like Clark to appear so powerful he could break himself out of almost everything and be harder to catch. But oh well, didn't bug me beyond that.
With Lana I think she was off filming Streetfighter, so the theories are just open to speculation on that.

Is it me or there is some anti feminism on the idea that Superman cannot be saved by women that he had saved thousands of times?
I mean Superman's women are only suposed to be damsel in distress?
Even in Superman Returns Lois Lane had to save him so what is wrong with that here???

I don't know, with these threads it seems people keep thinking that if Clark isn't 100% perfect in all ways, he'll never become Superman (who was never 100% perfect either)

It's better than having Clark saved by Jimmy... Fumbling and what not down the stairs...
Are you implying that sidekicks aren't necessary? Or being saved by three females who have relations to you isn't necessary?
And personally not having a sidekick at his side all the time might be a reason why Supes ends up getting into trouble sometimes (no offense to Superman at all). When Batman (from The Batman) got into danger in "The Joining", he ended up relying on the Justice League. When Static Shock (from Static Shock) was in danger in "Gear", he ended up relying on his friend Ritchie to bail him out. It's good to know that you can have somebody to rely on when you're in trouble. Kara, Chloe, and Lana were his sidekicks at the moment.

Yeah...and did anybody else kind of sense some attitude and jealousy in the barn when Chloe knew about the key and where to find it...Lana was all like "How do you know that?"

I didn't sense jealousy, but confusion on why she wasn't told. And of course, I thought the same thing to myself. He obviously holds a lot back from Lana for some reason.

I loved it. I thought, this is so cool. Clark has saved them all countless times and here is this crescendo! This wonderful climactic moment where Chloe and Lana can save him back. I really feel like this is a huge turning point for the series. I mean, it's Smallville... there was a lot wrong with it... but... *contented sigh*

Yeah..I think that's going to be another thing that causes them to drift apart. It's like no matter what lana does, and how understanding she is, chloe is always going to know more about clark and how to help him than she will.

I don't know what's the problem...he couldn't get out of there so he needed help and the girls saved him. He saved them how many times over the past seasons? ;)
Hey you all, this guy (the one who created the thread) Only wanted to make discussion, why else do you think he hasn't post anymore...
I wont fall into his/her game...

ummmm, okay did you REALLY just say that clark needs to save people more often. The only function that clark has apart from brooding over lana is saving people !!!
I was excited about this episode because the tables have turned !!!! clarks the one who has to get saved by the people who are always getting attacked and kidnapped !
him getting saved by three chicks was not PATHETIC !!
it was awesome.
although about the superman yeah he has to grow up, but what are you really expecting ? in superman, clark is what, 30 ?
he's only 21 now,
give the show its processing time. its all about developing the characters even more and always more than they already have.

Clark saves people all the time so I don't see why him being saved by others every now and then is such a big deal or means he isn't heroic. Sometimes even heroes need saving. ;)

Dude, are you serious? So Superman has to do all the saving but he can't be saved? They shot him with krypto-laced tasers! Hello! That means it was able to penetrate his skin then shoot currents of krypto-voltage into him. That means kryptonite surged through his body. He got weakened and subdued. This means he can be captured. He got put in a cell which was powered with kryptonite. This means Clark was in a world of hurt. What is asinine about this?
I thought I could complain about the most absurd things but with a great episode like this one I can find nothing to really be mad about. I guess some people will complain simply because they want their voice to be heard.

Not anti-feminism, just misogyny. One can be anti-feminism (because feminism has been hijacked by overbearing people who want superiority of women, not equality of the sexes) and not be misogynistic.
Personally I do think there's some misogyny inherent in thinking Clark shouldn't be saved by women. It's very sexist thinking, IMO. However, in much of the comic book fandom, sexism is par for the course, so its not that surprising to see it here. It is a little surprising seeing as most of the women on this show are very empowered and capable, but I guess the sexists just overlook that so long as "them durn women don't go savin' SuperMAN". I just roll my eyes at this line of thinking. :\

Oh thank you for telling me the right word. English is not my first language and I used the closest thing on my mind to exprese it. Now I know what word to use. Thank you :)...No I just need to remember it
Anyway I think you are right it looks like some old guard comics book fans hate capable women and don't want them on the comics books you know women are suposed to be pretty, don't speak and on danger...No wonder not many women read comics books :(
