Honestly, I think it's really Lionel. Brainiac wouldn't know half of the stuff about Lex or any of these military projects that have been running around for years. I think that Lionel may have been planning to take the traveler for himself and he's been allowing himself to get closer to Clark when he found out his secret. He just hasn't let anyone know his agenda...or the writer's didn't think of it in Season 5.

But wow, Lana and Chloe look fantastic! :D
