Description: Lana is from a small town in Florida called Miami and she moves to it after the meteor shower, as she and her parents had been in Smallville for visiting her aunt Nell and died instantly when the meteors hit. Lana moved back with Nell to Miami, for her aunt had felt as if being away from it all would help her niece forget and move on. She moves back to Smallville at age 17, when Nell decided to go back and try to win over a guy that she had dated back in high school, Jonathan Kent, although he was still married to Martha. She didn’t know they had a wonderful son called Clark, and she believed that the years and Martha’s inability to bear children would have torn them apart. Lana, on the other hand, is focused on finding out what caused her parents to die. Our adventure starts at the Lang’s arrival to Smallville. As you all can see, it’s a story set in an AU, and we’re about to find out what happens when the beautiful black haired women hit up Smallville after 14 of absence.

Disclaimers: I own nothing, except for my own ideas on how to make this story work. I wished that I owned Smallville, for many things would have gone differently than it has… But oh well, I can’t do anything about it.

Rated PG-13... Above all, criticism is appreciated ENJOY

I'll post the story later tonight when I'm done proofreading it. Hope you like it

Chapter One

Going home

As she got to the Miami International Airport she felt a relief, a feeling she hadn’t ever had before even in her most feral dreams. She felt as if she was going back where she belonged, although she was leaving the one place that had always been ‘home’ for her. That emotion ran as a cold shock of pain through her mind and soul, making every inch of her body sore of thinking she had disregarded Miami’s role in her life.

She pondered that this feeling would be imprinted with perpetual ink on her mind. That sudden need to go to the middle of nowhere was very strong within her, and it was an almost subconscious necessity to do something she knew she wouldn’t be repentant about. That wanting to do something unprecedented once in her life was perennial now inside her, as if something was waiting for her in that town called Smallville, as if she was meant to be there, or maybe as if she had some special link to the town her parents died in. Of course you have an extraordinary link to that piece of land, Lana. They died there, and that futile meteor shower made your life crumble to pieces ever since, and has made you be who you are today.

On the other hand, something dissimilar was going through her companion’s mind, as if they were opposite poles. That woman was thinking about the plan she would carry on to get the man she loved back to her side. That woman was happy to finally have the guts to destroy Lana’s world so she could get what she wanted once. That grown girl was doing this out of love… for someone else. Yes, that selfless 40-something year old child was finally getting what she wanted and not even her sister’s memoir would ruin it in the form of her beloved 17 year old niece.

She wasn’t used to feel like this about her, but when she adopted Lana, Nell Potter thought that moving away would help them both get over the Lang’s abrupt and terrible death. She really loved Lana, because she reminded her of Laura so much, it was as if she had never died. Her mannerisms, the way she talked or the way she crinkled her nose up when she smiled, and so much more reminded her relentlessly of her deceased and only sister. Nell felt Lana was the daughter she would never be able to have with him, for a rich young lawyer from Metropolis had steal him from her 18 years ago. But that is not going to keep it from happening. That Martha is going to pay the consequences of him breaking my heart, if they even are still together, which I doubt… He just loved me too much…

“Penny for your thoughts” Lana whispered to her aunt when she noticed her rather serious manner when she had been squeaking over their departure ever since they decided to go back.

“It’s nothing, dear. I’m just so happy we’re finally doing this that I can’t avoid to ponder in advance what I will feel like when I go back” She reassured her, more to herself than to the youngster.

“Wow, that’s a very joyful way to show it, aunt” She said, half joking

“Don’t worry about it, it’s nothing” She lied to her. But she was just used to lying it came out perfectly and got away with that.

“OK then. Have fun with that while I go buy some souvenirs to take up there. After all, who knows when I will be able to get a 50 cent keychain with my name written on a pink plate saying Florida, or even Miami for an extra dollar?” she joked as she walked away, leaving her aunt bewildered to notice how much Lana and Laura’s sense of humor was alike.

“You got more from your mom than your looks, Lana…” Nell sniveled out loud, half a whisper, half a breath in, which threw her back in her lost train of thought leading to an unknown destination while sitting absently on the terminal, just in front of gate 22.

In the meanwhile, Lana was window-shopping for a keychain that read her name, which she had only found in Disney, Orlando, a few years ago. She wanted to have something discrete to carry with her that reminded constantly of what she left behind and the vague promises she thought would get in a small township, but nothing as obvious as a big flamingo tee, dressed with a guayabera over a ridiculous dark fuchsia pink.

Oh my, that is the cutest thing ever! she thought after trying to figure out what two Spanish speaker lovers were saying to each other, obviously after a fight, and he suddenly kissed her. I definitely need to put on my top priorities to get someone like that in the near future for me… Especially after that prick of a boyfriend did what he did to me behind my back and to half of the cheerleaders as well… If not to the entire girl’s soccer, tennis, track basket and softball teams.

Lana called it a day after spending half an hour trying unsuccessfully to unearth it, and settled for a generic keychain reading in large blue letters MIAMI. In smaller white letters, it had imprinted FLORIDA, and a small but pink flamingo with a doubled leg was standing in the lighter pink background. She got three, one for her, one for Nell and one just in case. She paid over in the counter to a non-English speaker Latin lover who was hitting on her, leaving the change behind after she distinguished the words “sex” and “airport hotel” between the gibberish he called Spanish.

Going back to Nell, she found out her timing was amazing as always, for she was rising up from the seat and trying to take the entire luggage to the plane by herself.

“I thought I would need to call 911 for a missing person” Nell, lightheartedly joked.

“Naw, don’t be so mean… I was getting you a present” she answered focusing on the giant plane

“Oh, can I see it? Pretty please!!!” She said, looking as a sad puppy.

“Come on, I’ll show it to you when we land in Kansas so it has a bigger meaning” she shushed her off, leaving the bewildered aunt wondering about what Lana could have gotten her.

All passengers from the flight 3119 of Continental Airlines with destination Metropolis, Kansas, please report to the plane entrance. We’re ready to board. A bored lady’s voice came out roaring from nowhere, setting them in alarm and trying to sprint forward of everyone else so they wouldn’t get their seats stolen by some mindless person. The sound of their heels hitting the hard tiles on the floor lighted up the entire room, and everyone in their way just opened up as the sea when Moses walked through it. They arrived first on the line, and were heavily sweating for the airport’s AC system had been having a tough work keeping up with the 92 F outside.

They finally got in the plane, sat on their first class seats after putting their bags on the overheads, and were making small talk on their hopes and wishes for Smallville, only that Nell left out the Jonathan part of the deal. Once everyone was inside, the flight attendants began their never ending explanations on how and what to use in case anything happens, from low pressure to the turning of the plane into a giant firework. Lana and Nell were getting ready for the long hours they would have to be sitting in the plane, doing nothing really productive for themselves.

Nell’s thoughts were wandering freely in her memories of Smallville back in 1990, when she was free and happy and never realized it until it was too late. Lana, in contrast, was thinking on how she would be able to find out more information about her parents’ death, as she felt that Nell had been keeping some information from her, maybe from her own good, but she was aching to know.

Lana puts her Ipod on, listening to random music until one particular song catches her mind and her thoughts, feelings, and life in Miami practically passed like an elderly film in front of her open eyes. It was so clear she was lost in the past while looking out the window, that it could have been possible to see the movie reflected in her eyes.

Nell was just reading Savater’s Ethics for Amador for the hundredth time, as she was rather afraid of flying objects since Laura’s death, even more if she was riding one, and the words of the philosopher calmed her down each time. She gave an startled jump when the plane began to move and, although she is not a religious person, she prayed silently that absolutely everything went alright, with the plane, her life, her decisions and regrets.

“Don’t be a jumping frog, dear Aunt. It just began moving” Lana let a joking laugh out, and felt out of place, since everyone but her was silently praying, controlling their feelings, or otherwise just moody.

“I’m not a frog, you could call me a chicken, but not a frog. I’m afraid of those!” she said on the verge of tears.

“It’s going to be alright, Nell. I’m here with you, so just hold my hand if you get too afraid” she said shining.

The next moment, she hoped she hadn’t said such thing, as she thought that Nell would break her hand right on the spot. Good thing she was kind of used to it, if not, she would have been crying foul.

When the plane finally got stable on the sky, Lana felt her grip slowly fade away until they were just holding hands, Nell praying and Lana listening to music, her beautiful reflection shining on the window as if the glow came from within her. As she watched the city below slowly fading into suburbs, suburbs turning into trailers, trailers turning into forests and forests turning into a vast brown-green land known as the Everglades, she felt at ease, as if she was doing everything the right way, and that the very moment she was the very epitome of herself. She was the one going home, she realized in that split second.

“I’m ready to go home” Lana Lang said out loud, puzzling everyone, even herself.

Stay tuned for the next chapter on the story.
It was a very slow beginning, but I promise it WILL get better, as we get to see more Clana interaction, as well as the development of Nell's plans, and the introduction of a certain LL character...

Also, criticism, comments, random thoughts, feedback, whatever you want to call it, your comments are greatly appreciated!!!

Great start! This is a really original idea, and although I'm not usually a Clana fan, I'll definitely keep up with this story.

Chapter Two

New Beginning

As he strolled through the pastures the sun shone over his pitch-black shaggy hair, making it shine as he strode. His stony eyes were wandering, sympathetic of everything around him, which made him feel too minute and insignificant compared to all of it. His demeanor was peaceful yet remorseful, thinking of things in the past he had done or didn’t do, thinking of someone else he could have saved and didn’t, of events that were out of his control but that he blamed himself for.

He was just wondering how many people were killed by his disguised arrival to earth. He was questioning how many lives he had crushed. He was doubting if the actions he did were helpful to the people in the long term. He was asking himself how much pain he had caused by lying to his friends, by hiding who he really is, by being afraid. He tortured himself, as he had done for years, thinking that his existence was in vain, and that all he did was to bring misery to everyone else.

The ancient sky warned about tempest, and he was just walking to get the cattle inside while in deep thought. The little sun that could make it through the thick clouds made his green eyes looked even greener, giving them a sense of immortality. With his hands in his jeans, the thought why he had come to this earth, if it was to conquer, to love, to be a leader, to be a savior. He was thinking if someone would ever love him, and if the love would be real, not like those high school kids all over town where all they think of is looks, infatuations and lust.

He was wondering if life would ever be different. He loved his parents indeed, but the imposition of hiding who he is was driving him into loneliness, sadness and hopelessness. He wanted to help others and he knew he had enough power to do so. He wanted to be in that interior oblivion called love. He wanted someone real to be with him, but he knew that no one would accept him for who he is. He was a stranger to this world, and he believed this would never change.

He walked in the kitchen with a desperate look on his eyes, and his mother knew he had been thinking about it again. Her blue eyes laid upon his and she felt his pain inside her as a cold stab. Then, Jonathan came out with a grin on his face that faded away when he saw Clark with the anxious look in his eyes again.

“Morning, son. How was the walk?” He asked, not letting his eyes leave his face.

“It was actually refreshing” Clark lied through his teeth. He knew it was not refreshing at all.

“You look great for someone that starts school today” His mother joked.

“Yeah… Finally, senior year”

He speeded away to get a shower and get changed. In nearly two minutes he was back downstairs, eating his cereal while the breads were on the toaster. His wardrobe for today was the same as any other day; jeans, blue tee , brown shoes and red jacket. He looked somewhat different, though, as if the water had washed away his uncertainties and the sad look was replaced by a cheery one. He was actually excited now, and didn’t know why. All he knew is that he got a strange feeling inside that told him this year would be different… Somehow.
------------------------------------------------------

Lana woke up that morning refreshed, which was a very strange thing. Since she arrived from Miami two weeks earlier she had been grumpy because she hated the weather outside. It either rained or it rained, the sun either shone or shone. The temperatures seemed to be bipolar, as a day you seemed to be in the Arctic and the next one in Ecuador.

She took a long cold shower, for it was really hot outside, washed her hair and changed in about an hour, in which she had been in deep thought. She got a feeling inside that told her this year would be a year of happiness, but of heartless things too, of joy and of sadness. She liked that feeling, but it scared her as well.

Nell came upstairs calling for her. She didn’t want her to be late for the first day of school, and wanted her to be early so she could find the right classes before the bell rang.

Lana wanted to look perfect before starting a new life, and she really did. Her hair cascaded down her shoulders in long, straight strands. Her make up was one that looked as if made by a professional artist, and it wasn’t too elaborate or just powder. She put on the right amount to make her look as an angel. She was wearing a pair of faded jeans, a very tight white tank top and an unbuttoned stylish brown shirt with the sleeves rolled up. She had brown boots, dark sunglasses and the book bag she was carrying she got in Bruxelles, with a dark cat painted over a graphic orange and red background. She looked astonishing.

“Alright, Nell. I’m ready to go. What do you think?” she said, turning around for her aunt to appreciate the outfit.

“You’re going to get some hearts broken in this town, darling!” She said dumbfounded

“Thanks” Lana responded, giving her aunt a 1000 volt smile.

“Lets go, then. I want to see how the old Smallville High looks these days” Nell responded.

Lana hadn’t felt as excited as that August 20th ever before. Something deep inside told her that her life was about to change completely, and that the change would take place today.
------------------------------------------------------

As he walked by the familiar yellow halls, the crimson lockers were a blur in his eyes. He just wanted this day to be over. He wanted to go home, finish his chores, and go to his loft to meditate. He’s always loved to do that, since his thoughts were the only durable companion he’s ever had in his life.

He wanted to see through his telescope and wonder about which star he had come from, or if it was already extinct, making him question whether or not it was known to scientists that a planet called Krypton had imploded and that one, if not many more, of its inhabitants was living here on earth among them, pretending to be a farmer boy from Kansas.

He saw familiar faces all over the place, and they saw him in return. They thought he was a weird kid, for he would never go out the farm, not even in a date with someone. He was just plainly lonely and everyone knew it, and laughed about it. Yet, he did not care at all what others thought, he knew he couldn’t care at all, for there were so many things between himself and the life that he was supposed to be living as a human being. The problem is, he is not human.

He checked again the paper where his schedule was written. His first period today was AP Calculus, which was very easy for him. He didn’t know why, but his mind raced as fast as his body in super-speed, making it easy for him to do all the math in Calculus in his head.

Oh my, another boring year in Smallville High, just as all the other 11 years I’ve spent here… I wished that things would change for a while…

Then, he saw the most beautiful girl he’s ever laid eyes upon. Her cascading raven hair, her almond-shaped hazel eyes, her petite frame, everything was just beautiful, faultless and fascinating. Yet, she looked somewhat out of place, as if she was new in town. Of course she’s new in town, if not don’t you think you would have noticed her before, you BDA?

He didn’t know how, he didn’t know when, but he needed to go and talk to her. It was as if it was all he had been waiting for to change his life. She made him feel as if a kryptonite serum had been injected into his veins, as if his knees were about to buckle up and give up on him, without even knowing her name… He wanted, no, he needed to go talk to her, to take his chances... But he was afraid.

Chloe ran into him, unexpectedly and with the force of a tornado. He was caught off guard, and he stumbled to the ground with a heavy noise. He noticed that the girl he had just been eyeing had been startled by this noise, and he mentally kicked himself.

Chloe, on the other hand was laughing a lot.

“Oh my, Clark. How can you be so dumfounded?” she laughed even more

“Uh, hi Chloe… Nice to see you around again” he said, blushing heavily when he noticed a crowd around them

“Yeah, Clark. But, what were you looking at that you got so distracted?” she joked…

“Uhhhhh, nothing really… I mean, yeah, I didn’t zone out, but I wasn’t looking at something particular… I mean, I was… No, I wasn’t” he mumbled, getting redder by the second “Bah, you know what I mean… Right?”

“I think so, yeah… I guess…” Chloe said, getting up and laughing.

“Oh, hey Lana, how are you?” she greeted the girl Clark had just been eyeing.

“Hey, Chloe. Kind of lost, this school is huge. How are you?” she said, looking at the boy sitting on the floor… OH my, it should be illegal for him to be so gorgeous!

“I’m pretty much ok, except that I ran into Clarkie boy here.. Oh by the way, Lana Lang, this is Clark Kent. Clark, this is Lana.” She made quick introductions, hoping to go back to the Torch already.

Clark quickly stood up, just to see her eyes. She was astonished by his looks, he was the most handsome guy she had ever seen in her life. He didn’t notice this, for he was drowning in her beauty, and it was pretty obvious for everyone else, because they scattered around and left them alone.

“uh, hi…” Clark said, extending his hand to her.

“Hi…” Lana mumbled, shaking his hand and feeling the shock his touch sent through her nerves. Just in that moment, the bell rang and everyone rushed to class.

“I guess I’ll see you around, Lana” Clark said, enjoying the way her name rolled off his lips.

“Yeah…” She dreamily said… “See you, Clark”

I think that’s that feeling I’ve got since last week… Was the only thought that came through both their heads at that moment. This has got to be interesting…

Chapter three
Detention

“Also, painters like Conroy Maddox, John Melville, Emmy Bridgewater and a young Desmond Morris were part of the Birmingham Group” the art history teacher, Mrs. Smith said while Lana’s mind was somewhere else.

“The Birmingham Surrealists were a group of people that opposed the London-based British surrealism, preferring to build links with their French counterparts” the teacher continued, while half of the people in the classroom were taking frantic notes and the other half were having their own side conversations, except one of them who was lost in her daydreams.

I wonder what caused that meteor shower. I’d kill to know what happened, what made my life be the wreck it has been ever since my parents died that day. How come those meteors came to earth in Smallville, and nowhere else in the whole planet? How come one of them hit my parents so straightforwardly? Is there something called fate, destiny, that may explain what happened to them that day? I don’t know anymore… I wish I knew all these answers, for it would make my life would be so much simpler and easier…

But also, what happened this morning when I met Clark? I felt like electricity was going through my system… He’s so cute; his eyes are like a magnet to my soul, and I have never felt before like that… As if we’re meant to be… I wonder where is he from, what his life has been like… I wish I could get to know him better, because he seems to be like a really interesting person… A very hot, interesting person…

“Ms. Lang, are you listening?” Mrs. Smith said right after she asked Tommy to snap her out of her dream, which proved to be unsuccessful.

“Yes, Mrs. Smith, I am” she said groggily.

“Then would you please tell the rest of the class in what famous café and in what pub in London would the Birmingham surrealists meet?” She barked with a half-smile lighting her harsh face

“In the Talon?” she said without thinking.

“Very funny, Ms. Lang” the teacher said, her features harshening. “Here, fill this out” she said, handing Lana a detention slip

“Sure, Mrs.” Was all Lana could manage.

Great, you big stupid… See what you get from thinking of people that shouldn’t be in your mind…

Little did she know that once you fall in Mrs. Smith’s list of students she doesn’t like, life would be hard. And oh, yeah, she had fallen and hard on that list.

------------------------------------------------------------------

She was walking by the red lockers and yellow walls, trying to find her way to the detention room before she would miss it. It’s such a huge school that she didn’t know how to keep track of the room numeration, and at times it didn’t seem to make sense. She was just walking through the hallways trying to magically find the room, or some Good Samaritan that would help her get to it.

She couldn’t help but notice how different people in this school were from the people in Miami. Everyone down there was just focused on getting the biggest, better and most expensive gadgets, while here people seemed to be more real. They seemed to be happy with who they were, what they had and what they got.

People all over the hallway seemed to conform with what they had, and it was such a weird view that Lana didn’t know what to do, to laugh or to wonder. She was struggling inside with her prejudices, with her previous way of shallow living, and her roots took the best of her. She realized how wrong it was to behave as a crazy person every time a new Prada collection came out to the stores.

Then, she started wondering what life had been like for those persons. What their pains, their struggles, their hopes and dreams were. Noticing how many different outcomes and beginnings a life could have just amazed her every time she started thinking about it, but today seemed like a completely different thing. She realized that her own life could have been so different if her parents hadn’t died, or if Nell hadn’t taken her to Miami, or if she hadn’t come back here. Even with the slightest choices one could change fate, and she started realizing that there could be no such thing… Was it?

“Lana, is that you?” she heard a voice call from the distance. She turned around to see who it was, and was amazed to see the green eyed boy she had met earlier.

“Oh, hi Clark! How are you?” she tried to hide the thinking manner she had been into for a long time now.

“Pretty well, just heading to detention… How about you? You seem kind of lost…” he asked unsteadily.

“Yeah… I don’t know where I’m supposed to be going… And I think I got even more lost while thinking…” She said with a little nervous laugh.

“I see… What room are you supposed to be going to?” he said, holding her gaze, amazed at how pretty she was when she laughed.

“Uh… The detention room” She mumbled, blushing slightly.

He laughed vaguely, then said “Do you mind if I take you there, since we’re both going to the same place?”

“Not at all, Clark. Instead, I would love you to take me there, since I would get so lost in here that I wouldn’t be able to even get out by midnight” She said, laughing faintly again.

“Hahaha, so… how’s Smallville compared to the big city?” he asked, interested.

“It’s… Different, but in a good way… I feel as if I’m reconnecting to my roots” she said, not thinking at all.

“So you’re from around here? Cool!” he said without thinking at all too.

“Yeah… My parents even came to this high school. They met in the Talon…” she trailed off absentmindedly

“So they must be really happy you guys came back here then…” He said happily

“They must be… I honestly can’t tell… I wish I could, though” she trailed off again…

“Oh, Lana I’m sorry for that…” Clark said apologetically, kicking himself in his mind.

“Don’t worry about it, Clark. There’s no way you knew that they died in the meteor shower” she said, cheerily at first but with a lot of resentment on the meteor shower part.

“They what?” Clark said, very sad momentarily for it.
Great, another person’s life I destroyed by coming here.

“Yes, Clark. I’m an orphan. My aunt adopted me right after it, that’s why I moved to Miami, because my aunt thought it would be better for me not to relieve that moment every time I set foot on Main Street” She said, not really looking at him…
Why is he acting so weird, as if feeling guilty about it? it’s not as if he’d killed them or something

“I’m so sorry about all of that. I wish I could make it all better for you, Lana” He said, apologizing for something he felt was his own and lone fault.

“Don’t worry about it, it’s not like you could know or control the meteors coming to Smallville as a child” she said jokingly.

“Yeah, there was no way…” He said, trailing off to his own thoughts.

You big stupid alien! It’s your entire fault, that look of loneliness and desolation in her eyes. I wish I hadn’t had come to this planet, it would have made her life easier, more natural. No one deserves to lose their parents at that age, much less see them die in a meteor shower.

“Clark, are you there?” said Lana while waving her hand in front of his face.

“Yeah” he said grunting.

“What happened? You just trailed off. Are you ok?” Lana said, concern showing in her voice.

“Nothing, Lana… I just lost my train of thought, that’s all” he managed to say.

“That’s ok. That happens to me a lot” she said “So… what did you do to get a detention?” she asked, amazed at how such a cute and apparently nice guy got a detention on the first day of school

“Erm… I was thinking of someone during class and got lost in thought… Then Mr. Amador realized this and threw a chalk to me, which I couldn’t dodge.” He said, jokingly, grateful the pressure was off from the meteor showers.

“What happened to you, Lana?”

“Pretty much the same, except that Mrs. Smith bombarded me with questions about the chapter she was lecturing on, which of course I didn’t know at all” she said.

“She's a piece of art, isn't she?" He joked and she laughed silently

"So… Who were you thinking about, Lana?” he said, enjoying how her name rolled off his tongue.

“A green eyed, black haired hottie I met this morning” she said, self-indulgently, without even thinking it, nor looking him in the eye.
Uh, oh… You shouldn’t have said that, Lana… You’re talking to HIM

Chapter Four

Encounters

“Oh, I see” was all he could manage, wondering who that boy that had caught her attention so early was.

“Yeah, but it’s not like things would ever work out between us… I mean, I just met him this morning” She lied, even though she wanted things to happen with Clark.

“Yeah, it would be weird if things just happened between you that fast, wouldn’t it?” He asked, trying to swallow the sense of jealousy he had gotten.

“Yeah… Besides, with those looks I think he should be taken by now…” she said while her eyes trailed off to shape his face invisibly.

“If only you knew… Girls around here worry more about money and all those crazy stuff rather than a good personality with the good amount of looks…” He mumbled and thought it didn’t make sense at all.

“Just like in Miami, huh?” Lana said, self-consciously.

“I guess, I haven’t gone to Miami yet” He said, hopefully emphasizing the yet.

“Oh man! You have to go there, the beaches are astoundingly beautiful, the skies are a beautiful shade of blue, the clubs and nightlife is amazing… Even though, all these Latinos make it be almost like a south American city, it’s pretty good” she said excitedly, then added “maybe we ought to go down there sometime!”

“That would be great!” he squeaked, imagining how good it would be to go clubbing with Lana in Miami.

“Yeah, it would” she mumbled, her mind drifting off to the same scenario Clark was thinking about.

They got to the detention room very quickly, or so they thought. Clark said that they could meet after the detention to go grab a cup of coffee to the Talon or he could walk her home, both of which Lana accepted happily. The room was filled with different kinds of people, ranging from the gothic dressed in pitch-black, to the jock that had bullied Pete Ross that morning, Whitney. The teacher was just in his own little world, not really minding what the kids were doing.

And there was a surprise too in the room. Chloe Sullivan, the Editor in Chief of the Torch had gotten a detention for defending her dear friend Pete from Whitney, and Pete had gotten a detention as well. They all eyed each other, and without a word reached the agreement of sitting together for the detention.

Pete was astounded by Lana. He thought she was one of the most beautiful girls he’d ever seen, but he had a girlfriend to care about, so Lana was off limits. His girlfriend, a senior as well named Laura, was a beautiful petite brunette with green eyes and a smile that would light a room. He loved her dearly, and they had been going out for about a year and a half.

Chloe, on the other hand, had been single since she had arrived from Metropolis in the 8th grade. Of course, she had had some infatuations, the hardest one on Clark, and had had success in some of them, though she in the end cut them off to give Clark a chance to notice her. Truth is, he noticed her, but as a friend, as his loyal sidekick that will always be there for him no matter what.

Lana didn’t know Pete, so Chloe quickly made the introductions in a whisper, though the teacher didn’t care at all. She has always been careful not to get caught doing things she wasn’t supposed to be doing, and everyone giggled while they talked in whispers.

So the afternoon went like that, whispering, joking, writing notes to each other, having a good time... While Lana and Clark were eyeing each other, everyone was caught in the midst of having a good time, not noticing it.

--------------------------------------------------------

Nell was pacing back and forth the stable, waiting for Lana to appear out of nowhere. She had made sure that Lana knew which bus to take, where to walk, what to do in order to get home safe. She even thought it would be easy for Lana to get home because Miami is such a big city that in a small town you’re not supposed to get lost.

Her mind racing through any possible scenario, Nell was getting angry at herself for going back to Smallville. What if this has all been a mistake? What if he’s still married to HER? What if Lana got lost or something happened to her? What will I do then?

Nell’s mind was racing through it all, yet completely focused on finding Lana. She even thought of going next door to see if the neighbors knew about her, worrying that she may have gotten lost, but she decided to wait for another hour.

Great, one hour alone with my thoughts…

Eyeing the clock practically every minute, she was going literally crazy. The minutes were going as slowly as a turtle would cross the Great Lakes, or so Nell thought. She thought of Laura, of Jonathan, of her days in Smallville High, of her Miami life, etc. She thought of it all, yet of nothing at all.

While her eyes searching desperately for Lana, her frown perennially tattooed in her forehead. After almost two hours had passed, at 4:30pm she headed off to the neighbor’s house. She knew it had been the Kent Farm years ago, but supposed Jonathan would have already moved with that Martha to the big city or moved to another farm, because it looked different than what she knew.

The bright yellow house, the crimson barn and the vivid green pastures gave the farm a feeling of a perennially well-conserved land. The trees, the cows, the fences… Everything looked perfectly taken care of, as if a thousand men worked these lands, yet in a few weeks she hadn’t seen any. It was as if one man could take care of that farm and have it as precious as a pearl.

She knocked on the door, worried because she didn’t see any truck parked outside. She thought the people that lived in such a paradise weren’t in it at the moment, just when a beautiful red-headed woman in her mid forties opened the front door saying

“Jonathan, how amazing! You’re done already!” she squealed without noticing the green eyed brunette standing in her front door with an open mouth and her hand raised as if to knock twice. Eyebrows raised, she recognized the woman as Martha Clark, now Kent

“Oh, I got lost. I’m sorry” said Nell, trying to contain her anger at the woman that allegedly stole her Jonathan.

“Don’t worry about it, dear. I take it as you’re new around here” Martha said flashing her with a smile.

“Kind of. I just came back from Miami and I’m trying to get used to the town again” Nell mumbled

“Oh, so you’re Nell Potter! The entire town is talking about your return after Laura’s death. I’m so sorry” she tried to be sympathetic, but Nell couldn’t see through her anger at her stealing John and now mentioning Laura. Strike two, Martha

“Don’t worry about it. It’s all in the past. So who are you? It’s kind of unfair you know everything about me and I know nothing about you” she mentioned casually

“Oh, how rude! I’m Martha Kent, wife to Jonathan Kent, nice to meet you Ms. Potter” she said, extending her hand which Nell reluctantly shook

“I don’t remember you from Smallville High, are you from around here?” she questioned, knowing already the answer.

“Actually, no. I met Jonathan in Metropolis while we were studying in college and we got married. That’s the short version to the story.” She said, her grin extending from ear to ear.

“Wait, was he Jonathan Kent, the quarterback for Smallville High ever since his freshman year?” she inquired even further to see if she could lie to her

“The one and only” a man’s voice came from the door, one Nell knew so well.

“Nell, I introduce you to my husband, Jonathan. Jonathan, this is Nell Potter. She just came back from Miami” Martha said in a breath, eager to see the encounter of these two ‘strangers’

Chapter five
New life, old hopes

As Lana and Clark left the detention room to go to the Talon, Chloe and Pete were eyeing each other knowing that their friend was charmed already by the beautiful brunette.

“Chlo, do you think that Clark…” he decided to shut up, knowing their past story.

“Probably, yes… I haven’t seen him stare at anyone the way he stares at Lana…” she noticed, with a voice that denoted her longing.

“Yeah, me neither… It’s like he’s completely captivated by her, isn’t it?” Pete said, with his eyebrows raised.

“Yeah… I wonder what Lana Lang has that mere mortals lack” Chloe said, self-consciously.

“She has nothing that you don’t have, Chlo” he said, his eyes trailing off to her astonished face.

“Thanks, Pete, you really know how to raise morals around here” she said, giving him a small peck in the cheek “thanks for being always my best friend”

Whitney, who was looking on to the conversation of the kid he had beaten up, was thinking. He had noticed the newcomer as well. He wanted to get to know her, though it seemed that Clark had gotten the upper hand.

“Just for now, Kent… Just for now…” he said, while he walked away from the detention room and on to his truck to go to his dad’s shop.

************************************************** **********

They had shared a beautiful evening in school with friends, getting to know each other and getting used to being around each other. Chloe and Pete, now out of sight, had helped them to get out of their shells and now they were laughing and sipping their coffees in the Talon.

Lana was delighted with her companion. He was handsome, smart and athletic, and had one of those smiles that would just melt anyone’s will. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and his musical taste was exquisite. She just loved to spend time with him, at least so far.

Clark was elated as well. Lana was beautiful, joyful, sincere and fun to be around. She captivated him and he just left himself be mesmerized by her beautiful manner. She was amazing, and he loved how her background had influenced her. He loved to be with her, like a normal boy, having nothing to worry about. At least for now.

“Clark, that’s really funny” she said, laughing and crinkling her nose up.

He just laughed and amazed at how beautiful she looked when she laughed. He fell silent, as he tried to drink up her beauty, a task that proved unsuccessful.

“Hey, Lana, it’s getting late… Why don’t we go home?” he said, as he stood up and offered her his hand.

“Yeah, that’s a great idea… Nell must be worried dead by now…” she said, without noticing her thoughtlessness at first… then it struck her… NELL!

“Oh, Clark… Could you take me there the fast way? I forgot to tell my aunt I would be late” she said, worrying.

“Yeah, Lana, of course… Let’s just take the truck, and we’ll be there in no time” he said, leaving some cash behind to pay for the coffees.

“Thanks, Clark…” she said, taking the hand he had offered some time before and standing up.

“Don’t worry, Lana” he said, as he felt her touch travel through his nerves.

She didn’t let go of his hand until they got to the truck. That was strange for her, to hold someone’s hand without her being in a relationship, but she was just too worried about Nell to remember that. He felt spellbound by her touch, and didn’t let go of her hand either until he opened the door of the truck for her, she climbed in, he closed it and he got in as fast as he could without using super speed

Clark drove Lana back, the fast way. He forgot to tell her it was through Main Street, the place her parents died, though it wasn’t on purpose. She started remembering… Memories she hadn’t had since she was very little.

She remembered being dressed in pink, in a princess dress… A wand…

Then she remembered her young aunt taking care of here in a flower shop… A big grin appearing in her tiny features as she talked to Martha… whoever that was…

A thud, as if something heavy had hit the ground… The earth shaking….

Running outside in her aunt’s arms… To be greeted with chaos and destruction everywhere…

Her parents… Getting out of the car and waving at her…. Her childish worries taking over her as she saw them engulfed by a pandemonium of pain…

Their lively faces, plastered with a grin of happiness and joy… Completely oblivious to everything going on around them

Then, a big green smoking rock going down from the sky… Ghastly, steadily precipitating to earth…

Her parents faces… Their eyes fixed on their little princess…

Then… Smoke, death, blood everywhere, destruction, as her life shattered around her with the clash of meteors….

Nell’s scream, running back in, a photographer taking her crying picture afterwards…

It’s true; it was all a painful memory… But Lana wondered at that moment, sobbing and crying in Clark’s car, when do memories end and become a reality? Is it possible for life and dreams and memories to be one lone thing?

Clark was worried to see her like that… He was just driving her home through Main Street when she crashed down and cried… He had stopped the car and was engulfing her with his arms, trying to calm her down, in a silent statement of friendship that no one had given to her before in her life.

He just held her close, giving her the chance to let go of her feelings, whatever they were. She just cried, holding onto this new friend that life had put in her way. Her sobs took on every sound for him, her tears crashing staining his shirt, and they were immediately tattooed in his mind. He wanted to take all that pain away, somehow… But he knew it wasn’t possible.

After a while that felt like an eternity for both of them, Lana’s sobs calmed down. She stopped crying, though she held on to Clark’s embrace, not wanting to let him go. Clark noticed this, and he just held her close, not wanting to let her go in a million years either.

As the minutes died away, Lana felt it was time for her to go home. She broke the hug, and noticed Clark’s face was wet with silent tears as well. It was as if he knew what she had been crying about, without her ever saying a word.

Clark noticed that he had let go some tears as Lana cried. After a few minutes, he realized he had driven through Main Street, and he mentally kicked himself for it. He remembered Lana telling him her parents had died in there, and her cry had felt as if kryptonite was put through his veins and had hit his brain.

“Lana, I’m so sorry I drove through Main Street…” he said apologetically

“Clark…” she started, but he cut her off.

“I remember you telling me your… parents… this street… meteors” he trailed off, tears in his eyes… I’m the cause of all her pain… I wish I could take it all away… Stupid Jor-El that sent me here disguised by meteors… I profoundly dislike him…

“Clark… It’s not your fault… You didn’t mean to drive through here, did you?” she said, joking and drying her tears.

“Of course not, Lana… What kind of moron do you take me for?” he asked, getting suddenly mad at her

“A very cute, understanding one” she said, not noticing she drew closer to him.

“Again, I’m so sorry for everything…” he said with all the guilt he could manage

“You don’t have to be, Clark” she mumbled, mesmerized by him.

“I ought to, Lana… I hate how much pain the meteor shower caused you, and how different your life has been compared to what it was meant to be” he mumbled

“Maybe it was meant to be this wreck, who knows?” she muttered, self-consciously

“I do… It wasn’t supposed to be like this, that feeling of loneliness that reflects through your eyes, that lack of belief in humans, that is not who you’re supposed to be…” he said, looking into her hazel eyes

“And who am I supposed to be, according to you?” she asked

“You’re supposed to be the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen or will ever see, Lana… You’re supposed to be that kind of girls you just love, no matter the circumstances” he said, watching her reactions.

“Not that you're not already... But you’re supposed to be the epitome of happiness, the personification of what everyone else hopes to be one day… Someone like you shouldn't be walking around with that look on her beautiful face, Lana” he said, taking out his handkerchief and offering it to her

“Thanks, Clark… No one has said such amazing things to me before, nor has no one seen me in such an emotional collapse. Thanks for everything” she said, giving him a quick hug and a kiss on the cheek, which he returned to her, saying:

“Don’t worry about it, Lana… It was my sole fault. I drove through here…” he said, looking really sad again.

“Bah, stop it, Clark… Don’t worry about it. It was kind of therapeutic, being able to let go of that pain in your arms, Clark. Thanks” she said, with a grin that was worth the world to him

“You're very welcome... But, hey, don’t you have to get home to a very worried aunt?” he said, getting the engine on.

“Thanks for remembering… With her nerves, she could be having seizures by now!” she said, joking and laughing which Clark gladly accompanied.

“Let’s go then. Where do you live again?” he said, forgetting her address.

“Ehhh.. I don’t remember the address… It’s besides a Kent farm…” she mumbled

“In Hickory Lane?” he asked

“Yeah, how did you know?” she squeaked

“Because, dear Lana… We happen to be neighbors” he casually said, not being able to hide his wide grin, which Lana equaled.

************************************************** *********

“Oh, hey Nell! I haven’t heard from you in a very long time” was all that Jonathan Kent could manage

“Right back at you, Jonathan” she said, admiring his physic

“How’s life down in Miami compared to the old town?” he asked while he got to the fridge to grab a glass of ice-cold lemonade. "You want anything?" he politely asked

“It’s… different…interestingly different indeed” she said "And, no, thanks"

“Sounds interesting, Nell” he said, looking at his beautiful wife and his old high-school sweetheart be in the same room. What a nightmare!

“So, Nell would you like to stay over for dinner?” Martha asked, hoping the answer was no, so she could catch up with Jonathan about Nell... Who is she supposed to be afterall that he looks at her like that?

“I can’t, Martha, maybe another day. I need to go back and try to find Lana” she said, half of her wanting to say yes, the other half arguing it wouldn’t be smart to be friends with the enemy, who was doing backflips in her mind.

“Find Lana? Is she ok?” she asked

“I suppose… She’ll find her way home, as she always did in Miami” she mentioned

“Oh, Nell, Miami is way different than Smallville. There are no meteor freaks there” she said, getting worried for a girl she hadn’t yet met

“There are no what?” she asked, getting real worried

“Meteor freaks, dear. People with super powers they gained from the meteors from the shower” Martha mentioned

“Powers like comic-book-like powers?” she half-laughed

“They’re real now, Nell” Jonathan intervened.

“I believed them to be jokes on the internet… is it possible that humans have super powers?” she asked, childish-like

“Of course it is, Nell. We’ve been victims of them” Martha said. And one of our greatest joys in life is the epitome of that as well, Nell.

“I’m sorry to hear that… How can I find Lana in this town?” she asked Martha

“I’ll call Clark and ask him to come and you show him a picture and he’ll find her” Jonathan offered

“Thank you so much, Jonathan, Martha. I don’t know what I ever did to deserve this… Wait, who is Clark, can I trust him?” she asked

“Did you trust me back in high school, Nell?” Jonathan asked

“Of course, Jonathan… I always have and always will” she mumbled

“Then you can trust him, he’s our son” Martha said.

“Oh… I see…” she mumbled, her jealousy building back up

After calling Clark, Martha came back to the living room with a pleased and alleviated look on her face. She found Jonathan and Nell talking, remembering old times. Oh, how she wished she had lived that stage of his life by his side too…

“Good news. Clark met Lana in school, they went to get coffee and he’s driving her back home. I asked him to bring her here, so we can all meet and have dinner together” she said joyfully.

Nell and Jonathan couldn’t do anything but stare at her with the same blank expression in their faces as the ones the two teenagers in the truck had in that very moment…

Chapter six
Dinner

“Lana, do you know my mom?” he asked with a bewildered look on his face

“No, Clark. I don’t know anyone from Smallville yet, besides you and random people from my classes… Why? What happened?” she asked, worried

“I don’t know how, but my mom knew you’re not home and was asking me to go look for you” he mumbled

“That’s weird, how does she know I know you if we just met today?” she muttered

“I have no idea…” he said, wondering how his mom knew it all

They rode by the streets of Smallville quickly, as if the truck was moving in super speed. The asphalt of the street strolled away, fast as light, and the trees and green lands became a blur in their eyes. As Clark parked the truck, he saw far away his mom and father go out in hurry, and a dark lady tagging along.

Lana knew this lady very well, and it amazed her how fate could be so crazy to have taken her straight to the Kents, who called Clark and asked him to look for her around Smallville, even when they haven’t met. How in the world would Clark be able to find me if he hadn’t known me? I mean, he’s been here all his life, but I could be heading for Metropolis if I wanted to… How does it all make sense, besides the fact that Nell is going nuts by the second?

Clark, on the other hand was worried. He didn’t know this lady either, and he would have sworn that Lana was already suspicious of him, because she was eyeing him. It was anything but a normal glare. It was one that Clark knew very well, because Chloe, Pete and everyone he had ever rescued had given it to him. It was a look of wonder, of suspicion, of a nearly McCarthy-like paranoia.

“LANA! Thank God you’re ok!” Nell squealed, giving her an asphyxiating hug

“Why wouldn’t I be ok? It’s Smallville, for God’s sake, not Miami” she shrugged it off

“Lana, dear let’s get inside so the Kents can explain something that you need to take into account from now on” Nell said

“Alright, let’s go” she said

“Oh, how rude I am. Let me introduce myself. I’m Lana Lang, I’m Nell’s niece, as you already know” she said, while she offered her hand to Martha and Jonathan, which they gladly took after they looked at each other, raising their eyebrows

“It’s such a pleasure to meet you Lana. You’re so beautiful, like Laura.” Was all that could escape Martha’s mouth, dazed by the twin of Laura standing in front of her.

“Thank you very much, Mrs. Kent” she said, blushing as she always did when someone mentioned her resemblance to her mother.

“You know, Lana, we’ve already met. But I highly doubt you remember. I mean, you were a baby, and I barely saw you on that day…” she institutively looked at Clark, something that Lana did not miss

“The day of the meteor showers… I remember… I was dressed in a pink fairy dress, and I asked you what your deepest wish was. You said that you wanted to be able to have a baby, and I granted you that wish with a flick of my wand. Immediately, the meteors came crashing down” she said to a bewildered Martha, who had her eyes glistening with tears, and to a shocked Jonathan, who was holding Martha now. Clark was amazed at how this wonderful, beautiful girl could hold it all in, especially after seeing her go crashing down before.

“Lana, how in the world… I mean, you were just three or something like that…” she trailed off

“Let’s get inside… It’s getting cold” Lana said

As they walked inside, every person was more puzzled than the other one, and you could see it vividly on their faces. Jonathan was trying to figure out why Nell came by, Martha was thinking of her friend Laura and her daughter, Clark was just shocked to learn all of this, Nell was stunned to learn that Lana remembered that day, and Lana was still amazed at how this day had been like.

“Alright, someone wants to do some explaining, please? I’m dying here” Nell finally said

“Alright, let’s start with how come you ended up here and the Kents called Clark, who I accidentally met today, to go look for me?” Lana shot immediately, with a neutral tone

“Lana, you hadn’t given me any signs of life since you left this morning. What was I supposed to do, wait to see if a meteor freak decided to come out of the closet today and have you as a victim? So I came here to ask the Kents what could have happened, and Martha decided to call Clark” Nell apologetically said

“Wait, you lost me in the part of ‘meteor freak’. What is that supposed to mean, and why does it have the M word with the F word in it?” Lana hurriedly asked

“Let me explain, Lana” Jonathan said “The meteors that came down from the sky weren’t just normal rocky meteors. They are radioactive, and have caused mutations on people around here that have been exposed”

“So, why do they get called freaks, instead of sick people? Aren’t they dying?” she said, going back to her knowledge about biology

“No, Lana. On the contrary. They get these super human abilities that drive them crazy inside. And they decide to do bad things, like murdering, and trying to bend the law on their behalf” Martha interjected

An hour passed before they could get through Lana’s thick skull what a meteor freak was, and she got scared. They say Miami is dangerous with normal people murdering, but now here is where I have to actually take care. Ironic, huh?

“Lana, dear do you want mashed potatoes with that steak?” Martha said, while she was serving the plates

“Just a little bit, please, Mrs. Kent. Are you sure you don’t need any help with that?” she casually said while she watched Clark helping his mother

“Definitely not, Lana. You’re sitting down, because you’re a guest and that’s an order” Martha said with a huge smile on her face, which made her seem years younger

“Alright, as you wish, Mrs. Kent” she said, without thinking.

They sat down and started eating. Clark was sitting next to Lana, so close that their bodies actually collided with every move they made. Martha was sitting on one side, next to Clark and Jonathan’s side, and Nell was between Lana and Jonathan. What an interesting setting of the table! Clark thought.

“Lana, that was exactly what you told me that day” Martha said

“I’m sorry, what?” Lana said with her fork hanging loose in her hand, while she was drinking some lemonade

“The day of the meteor shower… I remember you said word by word ‘Alright, as you wish Mrs. Kent’, with the same tone and affection…” she trailed off

“I’m sorry Mrs. Kent. I wasn’t thinking at all” Lana mumbled

“Don’t worry about it, dear. But it makes me wonder… How in the world can you remember?” Martha carelessly mumbled

“Let me tell you an example. Think of the most bizarre, relevant, traumatizing thing that has ever happened to you. Do you ever forget it? Even if you were a small kid you would remember it still every day, every second… Any time, anywhere, anything that reminds you of it will always be there, no matter how much you try to fight it. It’s just something you cannot control and that will always be there, with you, within you, inside you. Eating you inside, making you feel and remember things you supposed were all dead and buried. Whether you like it or not, it's like that. It’s not a choice you've make, is a choice that's been made for you” she said, looking Martha straight in the eye, which made her realize how much pain she had endured. And that one person that should be feeling guiltier than her was sitting next to that girl.

“You’re absolutely right, Lana… I don’t know what I was thinking when I asked you that, I’m sorry” was all that a tear-eyed Martha could manage.

“Don’t you worry about it, Mrs. Kent” Lana said, with a smile spreading across her visage.

It simply was beautiful for all of the ones sitting at that table. It was amazing that Lana could still smile after stating such a big thing, something that had affected her life in every possible way. Clark was amused by her, and he kept stealing glances of her beauty. Martha and Jonathan, on the other hand were noticing how their son had started looking at Lana, noticing a complete change after her statement. And Nell, she was worried with stealing glances of Jonathan, and thinking of how her life may have been.

The night just went like that, everyone almost always silent, as the mini-speech made by the 17 year old had a profound effect on everyone. They said their polite goodbyes; Lana giving a small peck on the cheek to Clark as the adults looked on, wondering what had started to grow in there.

Goodnight, dear Clark… I hope you’re thinking of me too

Goodnight, dear Lana… I hope you’re thinking of me too

These were their last thoughts before they drifted to sleep a few hours after they had said their actual goodbyes

Chapter Seven

His Mighty Baldness

As the months went by, the friendship between Lana and Clark grew stronger. They spent many hours riding horses, doing homework and projects, or just hanging out like any other friend would do. The thing is, they both wanted to be more than acquaintances, but they always thought the other one didn’t like each other, even if they enjoyed greatly each other’s company.

Lana knew that Clark’s friendship was invaluable, so she didn’t push for anything to happen. Besides, she already knew those famous Clark inexplicable mood swings, and she thought they were kind of strange, yet she disregarded them. She loved to spend time with him, and she felt soothed when she could do so. She also tried to ask him rhetorical questions about what she should do about a hypothetical guy she liked, and he seemed upset about it, and she could have sworn she had seen his eyes flashing red with the anger. What he didn’t know is that the guy was him.

Clark was there for Lana all the time, as a friend, yet he wanted to be something else. He thought that Lana must like someone else, because she asked a few times what should she do with a guy that was her friend and she wanted to take things farther, yet he was like on the moon or something. She didn’t mention any names, though, because she said that it would affect her plans with that guy… He was dying inside the very minute she mentioned that, and he had come to realize how much she already meant to him.

Chloe, on the other hand, had started dating a boy he had met while doing an interview for the Torch, and his name was Lucas. They were great together, but he didn’t attend Smallville High because he lived in Grandville. His father had abandoned him, and he didn’t know anything about him, yet he was a great boy inside.

On those six months that had gone by, Pete had broken up with his long time girlfriend, and he realized, when Chloe was there to comfort him, how much she meant to him. He thought it was too bad she was taken by the time he realized it, and he regretted it every second he saw her light face directed towards him.

What they all ignored is that there were some plans brewing up around them that would affect their lives forever, and wouldn’t let it be the same anymore.
“Yes, Mr. Luthor. Everything is set and ready to go” his assistant said through the Bluetooth earpiece that Lex had hanged around his bald ear.

“Alright, Mr. Erlone. You’ll get your pay in the next few hours. I hope you’ll enjoy those five million dollars and do something useful of them” he said, his voice thirsty to know what would happen in the next few days

“Goodbye, Mr. Luthor. Thanks for the chance to change the world as we know it” said the mysterious voice on the other end of the phone

“Yeah, yeah. I’ll talk to you later” he hung up the phone, not waiting for an answer.

He sat back on his leather chair, watching his surroundings in deep thought. Oh, how he wished his dad was still alive for him to see his success in this “Mission Impossible” as Mr. Lionel Luthor called his dream. He scratched the back of his head, feeling the baldness under his fingernails, as he thought how many times he had tried to prove his own father wrong but he couldn’t.

Now as he was there on the darkness of his studio with a glass of the finest Scotch on earth, he could savor the feeling of success for the first time in his life, as his eyes were entertained by the dangling of the fire in the smokestack. While his eyes, shoulders and baldness were bathed on the radiance of the soft fire, he realized that his dream was finally coming true.

He would be the conqueror of earth, and this was the most important moment in his life. He would have anything, anyone, everything he wanted with only a breath escaping from his mouth. He would have anyone at his disposal, as everyone would die to be with him, their savior. He could do anything he wanted, anything he pleased, because he would be the creator of this new order on earth.

As the images flew through his head, he fell asleep with a sick smile on his face, imagining how good it would feel to be the one and only one in control of everyone else’s fate, as he had been exactly three years ago that night when he murdered his father with his bare hands.

I laughed at the title of the chapter. I wonder what Lex has up his sleeve now.. Lex killed his father..some son he is...so I can already tell that Lex isn't going to be good..
Clark is kind of slow not knowing that the guy Lana was talking about was him. It's weird they both want more than friendship but doesn't know if the other does. I kind of understand why Lana doesn't want to tell Clark how she feels..

Well looking foward to the next chapter thanks for the update!!

Chapter 8

Did the forecast say there’s going to be trouble in Paradise?

As the second semester of school came, Lana had already adapted to school. She ate lunch everyday with Clark, Chloe and Pete, and they had become the Fab Four. They were attached to each other, yeah, but everyone had stronger ties with someone in the group, and they all were opposite sexes. So Chloe was more attached to Clark, Pete to Chloe, Lana to Clark and him to Lana.

One day, Chloe and Pete had to finish the edition of the Torch that would go that night to the prints, so Clark and Lana were left alone to have breakfast together before school began.

“So, Clark… What are you going to do about that project we have for Math?” she asked

“I was hoping I could get some help from my hot sidekick” he said with a grin

“So you’re going to ask Alicia to help you?” she asked with a certain resentment in her voice that didn’t go unnoticed for Clark

“No, Lana. You know she’s not what I’m looking for” he said without hesitation or thinking

“So then who?” she asked, really interested

“Let me see… Someone I’ve been friends with since she got here a while ago, and that’s been my real helper lately. Someone I can trust with my life, no matter what” he said looking at her straight in the eye

“Chloe? She’s in Pre-cal, you retard” she said with a big smile on her face, joking

“I know. And it’s not her. It’s you” He said, giving her a quick Kent smile

“Awww, how cute. What time are we meeting then?” she asked, returning his smile

“Six at the barn sounds good?” he mentioned casually, trying to sound cool

“Sure. But next time try not to try to be cool, just for you to know. You’re my best friend and you don’t need to try to act like something you’re not” she said, while she winked at him

“Alright… Note taken” he said.. “But, what is that about me being not-cool?” he said, opening his mouth in awe, but when he saw her please-Clark-come-on-down-to-earth face the easy laugh bubbled from his lips, something Lana loved to see.

The day went smoothly, but then Lana got called to the counselor’s office. She had had a change of schedule, as her teachers had recommended her to take AP courses starting that same day. Her biggest concern was that they had changed her lunch schedule, and she had all the opposite lunches from Clark and the rest of her friends.

“Can’t I keep my lunch schedule?” she helplessly said to Ms. Johnson.

“Lana, isn’t it more important to have good, challenging classes than to be with friends?” she calmly and stubbornly muttered

“Well, yeah… But I don’t know anyone in the other lunches…” she shook her head just at the mere thought of that.

“You already got friends in here. You’ll get new ones” she fired with disdain.

Lana was so mad at the counselor that she excused herself and then stormed out of the office. She was in the brisk of tears, because it would be like going again to a different school, only that she was already familiar with the intricate hallways. The rest, she would have to figure out.

That day passed by slowly as hell, she thought. She was so mad she didn’t have lunch and instead she headed for the Library. She sat on an empty computer and logged in, with that million-of-letters long password the school provided her with. Then, she wondered for a long while if she could somehow appeal the counselor’s choice of changing her lunches around.

“Is this seat taken?” called a deep voice from above her. She didn’t even care and grunted something that indicated the stranger it was a free seat.

She didn’t care about who the stranger was, as she was too much into her research for chemistry class. She instead decided to ignore him, not even looking at the boy sitting besides her.

“So, who are you and how come I haven’t seen you around here before?” the bottomless voice said with interest that went unnoticed to Lana

“Ehhh…” she doubted for a while, then looked at him. She was astounded and said in a cheerful way “I’m Lana. I come from Miami, that’s why you’ve not seen me around”

“Oh, I see… Nice to meet you, Lana. I’m Thomas, but you can call me Tom” he said winking at her, which made her smile as he offered his hand to her.

“Nice to meet you, Tom” she said, shaking his hand oh-so-gently.

“So... Why are you here during lunch?” he said, looking deeply into her eyes.

“The counselor decided unilaterally to change my schedule… Now I don’t only have new classes but new lunches as well… And… Well… I don’t know anyone down there…” she said, blushing slightly and pointing to where the courtyard was supposed to be.

“Care if I let you in a secret?” he murmured, which made Lana draw closer to him.

“I don’t know anyone down there either… I got here from New York a couple days ago” he breathed, which made Lana’s eyes open in awe. Mmm… Someone that knows what’s on my mind as well? Probably…

“Interesting…” was all she could manage.

“Yeah… But I guess we both know someone now” he smiled

“Sure thing” Lana said, looking into his honest hazel eyes as she smiled involuntarily.

The bell rang, and they hurriedly logged off their computers.

“Hey, Lana, by the way… Can I have your msn or phone number so we keep contact?” he reddened faintly as the words escaped his lips

“Sure! I was about to ask you the same” she mumbled, as her eyes were drawn to his full lips, his perfect smile, the faint hint of a full beard that hasn't been shaved in a couple days, his silky brownish hair, his strong torso… She definitely thought he was some piece of work.

They changed contact information quickly, and kept walking and thinking and wondering.

They were about to part ways, but they suddenly followed the same path. After a while they realized they were both going to the same AP French class…

No wonder I hadn’t seen him before… He’s in advanced classes and had different lunches than me… Interesting timing, indeed, has that Mrs. Johnson.

Chapter 9[/COLOR
COLOR="Navy"]
Rift

Chloe. She was in a relationship with Lucas Garcia and they were out dancing salsa for the night and having a great time. He, although he wasn’t Latino, moved his body with a rhythm that mesmerized Chloe, and they spent quite a few hours dancing to songs by Elvis Crespo, Celia Cruz, Juan Luis Guerra and everyone who’s anyone in Latin music.

It was Christmas break, so they were wearing heavy clothing and sweating like stallions underneath them. Although their crazy dancing had tired Chloe out, the blond and muscular Lucas was as if nothing had happened, yet he decided to settle for the night and go take a hike with Chloe out in the snowy path in front of the only salsa club in Smallville.

“Clo, stop” Lucas said as he held Chloe’s hand loosely in his. “I need to talk to you about something that’s been on my mind for a few days now”

Chloe turned around, the expression of her face evergreen. The moonlight swept through her features, and the stars seemed to be dancing in her blue eyes.

“Chloe, what I’m about to say, I’ve never said to anyone. I know, we’ve been dating for a short time…” he let out a sigh, as he was trying to find words to keep on going. She wondered what that may be, since their relationship had been always honest. Or so she thought…

“I love you” he breathed as he looked Chloe straight in the eye, with a look that spoke oceans for her, his green eyes glowing with unrestrained love.

She couldn’t answer back, so she kissed him with a passion that only a person who is in deep love may have achieved. After a while, as they both gasped for air, she snuggled in his chest and, although she couldn’t see his face, she felt his heart racing for her to give him an answer, as he placed his head over hers.

As she was holding on to him for dear life, she tried a few times to look for the correct words to say, but none came to her mind. She opened and closed her lips a few times, as to say something, but only a sigh would come out.

She bit her lower lip, and parted the hug. Now, Lucas was trembling from fear. Fear she wouldn’t or couldn’t love him, like he did her.

“Lucas…” she started, only to be silenced by her own tears

“I know, it’s too soon. But that’s how I feel… I mean, can you blame me? Look at what I have in front of me… Is it possible not to fall in love with you?” he mumbled, looking at her straight in the eye, feeling the apparent pain of his beloved as she cried

“I never thought anyone would ever say such a beautiful thing to me, Lucas…” she sobbed slowly. “Truth is, I’m afraid I couldn’t be the one for you…”

“Baby…”

“Let me finish, please, baby… You’ll understand when I’m done…” she said, holding his hand and wishing to never let go

“I’ve always been such a carefree person. I never thought I’d care for anyone, much less love anyone. I didn’t feel it in me, like there was something missing” she smiled through her tears

“Why do you say you didn’t?” he asked, wiping her tears with his hand.

“Because someone walked into my life a few months ago and changed everything I was drastically. And I’m looking at him with a passion that before was unthinkable for me” she said, as she closed the gap between them. She let go of his hand to cup his face in it, feeling the cold sweat, the unshaved beard, the tightness of his worried expression under it.

“And what did I do to do so?” he asked, pouring his love to her with a look, as his expression softened under Chloe’s touch.

“You made me love you, madly, like I never thought I’d love anyone. I love you too, Lucas Garcia” she squealed nervously, as she reached up to his smiling lips, which met hers halfway. The passion in the kiss was evident, their bodies burning up from every sensation that was unleashed by the atmosphere.

From far away, a teary face watched the love scene. Although he loved Chloe more than anything, he had realized it late and was punished with watching this tonight. He cried slowly, for his pain was too much to bear, and he waited for the torture to finish. As the two lovebirds broke the kiss, Lucas asked her if he could walk her home, which Chloe gladly accepted.

As they started to walk slowly, hand in hand towards him, Pete Ross dried his tears with the back of his hand. He thought of acting as if nothing had happened, but he couldn’t. His rage was just too much, as he felt betrayed for someone who did never love him as more than a friend

“Hey, Pete, where's ur date?" Lucas asked him.

His response was to blow a fist at his jaw, which landed squarely to it and Pete felt his knuckles cracking as Lucas’s jaw had done too. Lucas fell to the floor, his face throbbing with pain, as Chloe watched the surrealist scene develop in front of her

“What the hell do you think you’re doing????” Chloe yelled

“Fighting for the love of my life, of course” Pete answered, as he rubbed his knuckles to avoid the developing pain

“Are you drunk or something? I thought that you were in love with Laura!” Chloe yelled at her supposed friend

“Well, truth is I’m not! I’m in love with you, and only with you and when I was about to tell you, you came to me with the news of your relationship!!” He roared back.

Lucas was watching the developing fight laying in the snow, for his face was too sore and his pain was too much. When Pete tried to kiss Chloe and she rejected him, he felt a rush in his veins and stood up, without minding the pain

“What the hell, Pete? Trying to steal my girlfriend?” he growled

“She was never yours, nor ever will be!” he narrowed his eyes as he felt the need of hitting him again

“Well, for your information, she just told me she loves me, something she never thought would do. To anyone!” he mumbled back, fearing that his words would gain him another hit

But it was Chloe who did the hitting this time. She slapped Pete, and his face was something Chloe would never forget. The pain, the incredulity was there, but instead of fighting back, he just went home. Far away from this hell.

“Lucas, baby… Are you ok?” she said as she got closer to him, only to see his bleeding lip

“Yeah, I’m ok… Are you?” he said as he held her hand

“I would, if you weren’t bleeding like that… Let’s go home and fix you, ok?” she said

“There’s a better way of fixing a bleeding lip, you know…” he joked as they walked slowly home.

Awww.. I happy that Chloe found love. I feel kind of bad for Pete because he was inlove with Chloe :( I just wish Clark and Lana will tell each other how they feel so they can share a love that Chloe and Lucas has.

Anyways, I like that story My Everything, it would be nice if started working on that one again.
