For anyone else who was wondering how in the hell Pete was able to get into Lex's office to plant the virus, here is the explanation...

In the Director's Cut for Hero, there is a scene in which Pete uses his powers to swipe Lex's wallet just as Lex is getting into the elevator. This sets up how Pete is able to gain access into Lex's office to plant the virus. However, this scene ended up being cut out of the episode. I really wish they would have left it in, because it would have much more sense to the viewers as to how Pete was able to get into Lex's office.

Not to mention the fact that it was a really akward cut into commercials. Pete sees Lex walking towards the elevators, and says "Excuse me" to Chloe. Just as he is leaving the bullpen to get to the elevators it cuts to a commercial break right in the middle of the action. There was no sense of closure to the scene. One rule for editors is that if you lead the audience to see one character getting another character's attention, you show the viewers the outcome. I understand having to trim the fat off an episode for timing purposes. But the scene where Pete swipes the wallet is only 20 seconds long, and any scene that featured his powers should have been used. Especially one that set up him breaking into Lex's office.

Here is the scene where Pete swipes the wallet :

Yeah, I was waiting for the scene to come up, and it never did. Maybe they thought it was weird for Lex to leave in the elevator and then come up to his room even though he JUST left it.

What was weird for me, is how Pete is suddenly able to gain access to Lex's office. You also have to remember that the scene would have gone to a commercial break after Pete swiped the wallet. Pete would have grabbed the wallet, and then there would have been a suspenseful music hit, with a cut to black. So when the episode fades back in, you would see Pete at the computer, Jimmy sneaking in, and Lex walking in on Pete. It would have been a natural transition between scenes. But cutting to a commercial break when there is obviously still time left in the scene, is akward. When you cut to a commercial, the scene is supposed to have a sense of closure.

Honestly, I never thought twice about how Pete was able to get into Lex's office. Heck, based on the scene of him breaking into Lionel's vault, there's an even cooler possibility left open by not showing a scene establishing him stealing Lex's wallet.

But the scene was only 20 seconds long and it would not have only shown how Pete was able to get into Lex's office, but it would have taken another opportunity to show Pete use his powers. But for the most part, it was just a really akward cut into the commercial break.

Not to mention the fact that the CW screwed up by advertising a scene that never ended up playing. The scenes they always play in the DC videos always make it into the episodes. This is the first time that a scene from the DC video ended up being a deleted scene.

It was cut?
Good. The less of plot device Pete, the better.
At least Al and Miles were wise enough to know not to have Pete on for more than one episode. A quick shot in the arm, to remind us how bad it could still be, was good. I am actually more thankful of the progress they have made now.
It was like they were telling us "It could always be worse".

Thank You Al and Miles: we got your message, loud and clear.

I don't think it really needed an explanation. Much wierder things go on in Smallville, so someone gaining access to a secure location should come as no surprise.

I personally always liked Pete. I know that some people don't like the character. But I always liked him. Granted SJIII has always been given the honor of being the device used for product placement, and as I have said in other posts, I did not like the Kryptonite gum angle at all. But in terms of getting an old character back (something that NEVER happens in Smallville) along with tons of continuity, I am happy Pete returned.

Maybe it is different for me because of the fact that I watched the DC video and knew about the scene before the episode aired. If I was going into the episode without knowing about the scene, perhaps it would not bug me as much. But after watching the scene, and taking into account that it was only 20 seconds worth of screentime, they should have left it in IMO...
