View Full Version : CK more resistant to Kryptonite?

Did his vulnerability to Kryptonite decrease with the constant increase of his powers?
I mean, usually when he's near krypto he can't really do much at all except fall to the ground in pain, even when it's a little rock. But in Hero, he was pretty darn close to that Kryptonite, it was a lot, and not only did he not fall to the ground, he got even closer, moved a pretty big stack of boxes, and from the looks of it moved away from it on his own.
I remember in Justice when he stumbled into that room with refined Kryptonite, he fell and couldn't even get out, Ollie had to carry him away.

He had two opposite reactions to Kryptonite in the same episode. At first he seemed strangely resistant to it, as you said, but when Pete took the stone out from Lionel's safe, Clark fell to the ground immediately, which was lame. I mean, even Zor-el was more resistant to a similar stone in "Blue" and Clark laid uncoscious until Lionel showed up????

The effects of Kryptonite have often been inconsistent even in comic book stories, it's nothing new. It's about how the writers need to use it. In Splinter he even super-sped away from kryptonite once.

that was ridiculas when he was in the Stride factory it wasn't even affecting him. and then later with Pete he dropped in 2 seconds flat! I was disappointed with that for SURE

Yeah, me, too. Sorry, but everytime someone puts kryptonite on Clark's chest, I'm always like "Come on, Clark, move a little bit and it will fall off of your chest!"
It's so unbelievable that he's not able to do a simple move, that would get that rock away from him and in other situations he seems to be not affected at all - like in that gum factory - and there was a lot more of kryptonite!
Wasn't it in season 3's "Phoenix", where he even managed to throw that kryptonite away in the truck?! And they used adhesive tapes to prevent the kryptonite from falling off of him!
It's really not so logical sometimes in Smallville!

Maybe the kryptonite had different amounts of radiation?
That would be convenient:lol:

Well in the case of the factory, he wasn't in direct contact with it. It was far enough away that he was weakened but no substantially. Meanwhile, Pete directly put a meteor on Clark's chest. It would have been different if that kryptonite puddle on the floor was spilling all over him lol.

yeah but he didn't fall after pete touched him with the rock. He fell the moment pete opened the box five feet from clark. It's sad but we have to remind ourselves that writers do go for convienient over creative every time:D

^ it was close to him. the way i remember it, if he's 15 feet of Kryptonite he can get weak. as long as that vein in the factory was he shouldnt have been able to move that crate.

Again, it's not just Smallville. The writing all across the DCU is inconsistent and often illogical when it comes to how much kryptonite effects him.

I noticed that too, about that inconsistency with the kryptonite exposure...but then I remembered what Mid said:

Yah, well, I guess we have to live with it, there's nothing we can do about it, is it?
But still, sometimes it really annoys me.

Even if this were true. A carton full of kryptonsite stride gum vs. a rock of kryptonite. The stride gum still beat the rock.

Didn't we establish SIX YEARS AGO that they're inconsistent with Kryptonite's affect on Clark? Seriously. The show uses it whenever it's convenient. Smallville is not meant to be taken very seriously...

What I'd liked explained is how not only he could survive a box full of KRYPTONITE GUM but then destroy it & no police investigation. It's not as if he didn't RUIN SOMEONES BUSINESS!
I'd also like to know how a Kryptonite chewing gum that makes the person who consumes it into a Krypto Freak got past the health checks that every other food or product in the world is supposed to take. I mean it wasn't even a Luthor Corp. project:\

Wasn't the gum factory abandoned?

The kryptonite on his chest was actually touching him. That's why he can't move with it on his chest.
When he found it, there was a huge stack of something in between him and the krptonite, and he kind of stayed behind the stacks, that's why he didn't fall to the ground. IMO

I don't think it was ever explained (If I'm wrong someone let me know asap please) also even if it was who leaves a huge crateful of that stuff UNSUPERVISED!??

I think I remember someone saying that the company left the factory behind and that the bands have been using it ever since.. hmm

So that'd mean that the gum in there was stale. Poor Pete, no wonder he was chewing it like a cow.

They did say the gum factory was abandoned. He didn't ruin anyone's business.

Based on that logic, neither is any other Superman media, as they are all inconsistent about it.

So a company left a substance that is not healthy for its consumers! I think I smell a law suit coming!
Going on topic it seems Clark's immunity to Kryptonite depends on the needs of the plot. Also I couldn't understand why they even need to write in Kryptonite anymore it's not as if it hasn't already been done zillion's of times & we all know he'll survive.
But wait what do you know the next episode has Clark trapped inside a cage made of Kryptonite:\:eek::rotfl:

I don't think they made kryptonite chewing gums it just kind of happened. Like the radiation affected the gums somehow.

Yeah if you even look at the use of Red Kryptonite in other media (I know it's doesn't apply to this episode, but it illustrates inconsistencies for the effect of kryptonite in general) In the cartoons alone, never mind the comics, it has a different effect on Clark each time. Usually it cause some random, bizarre mutation in Superman.

Yeah, it looked Kryptonite was leaking into the supply of gum, tainting. God only knows why there was kryptonite in liquid form in a gum factory in the first place though.

I'm thinking that the gum factory has been abandoned, so all the kryptonite-induced gum never was shipped out in stores. So that is why nobody else had the elastic powers. But then again, I wouldn't understand why anybody wouldn't take a few packs of gum with them anytime they were at the concert. I mean, it's free gum!!

It seems like when clark is expecting it or is atleast 10 ft away he can resist it "better" then when someone just pulls it out on him by surprise and within 5 ft of him. When he went back to the factory he was expecting to find kryptonite and did, and jumped back fairly quickly.
By better i mean he knows its there and can be prepared. Its like taking a punch sort of, you get blind sided chances are you may go unconscious if you see it coming and your prepared and can either roll with the blow or avoid most of the effects. CLark really wasn't expecting pete to pull the k out on him but the pete "the boss" ross comment should have prepared him heh.

1st thing I was thinking as well.... How dose a pool of GK not effect him yet a little hunk of it drops him  Best I can think of is that the GK in the gum factory wasn't as potent as the rock

we havent even had a nice take clark down with kryptonite in awhile that brought nastolgia as well BUT the stride factory clark around kryptonite was pathetic

It's all for the sake of entertainment. If they need Clark to lie on the ground for a little while to advance the story, fine by me. Besides, Kryptonite affects him differently in just about every medium. In Superman Returns, he lifted a gigantic Kryptonite island!

not sure if anyone has thought, but the stride factory was only a crack in the floor... we only saw the glow which hurt him a little... the rock is still as potent as ever.
I dont see a problem with the way they did this... you only have to think about it for a second!... fed up with people slating the show... we could all see things either we dont get or are sure is a mistake.... GET A LIFE!! its a show about superman!!! it is not a documentary!! sci fi... fi = fiction!

So fiction = incontinuity + lack of logic ??? Sorry, but I don't think so.
I don't believe that writing for Smallville is an easy task - surely it is not! But there are some things, like this kryptonite reaction of Clark's, which could have been better handled.
I've just seen a dirctor's cut scene from "Travelers" on youtube and there's the same kryptonite "problem" again and I'm already a little dissapointed of that episode by now.
Well, I guess that's my problem - we're not able to change that, are we?

Yea, I saw the director's cut as well.Is clark the only kryptonian that doesn't try to use their heat vision to blast the k-rock to bits? Their making our bda into a dumber bda. Clark, having been exposed to the yellow sun his whole life, should have the highest level of k-rock resistence. At least to the point that he's smart enough to not allow himself to be trapped or disabled by it.

Using heat vision on k-rocks doesn't allways work. It worked for Kara in ep3 but in the episode where Lex's good and evil side gets parted by black k, Clark uses his heat vision on Lex's green-k ring turning it into black k.
I'm guessing Clark doesn't want a load of black k lying around.

In devoted it did'nt affect him until he drank it. Wonder if the love potion would have work on him if he pick up a blue K rock. Jason and Clark would bought have been fighting over Lana.

Maybe when it's not in original rock form it loses potency. When liquefied or refined it might have less of an effect on him.
