why'd they hug? maybe i am remembering wrong, but in seasons one thru three, pete and lana weren't all that close of friends were they? so why go to a person that you hardly even knew before and hug them? maybe it's just me, but idk.

I guess that Lana got the mentality that a friend of Clark's was a friend of hers as well. That's probably why she went to hug him.

No romantic attraction whatsoever IMO (to those who believe that Lana and Pete will get together in Smallville).

Lana and Pete won't get together on Smallville, but it was maybe a slight nod or anvil towards their iconic future. Who knows? I didn't feel the sparks.

Probably one of those little references that Al/Miles like to put in eppies sometimes. She kissed Clark sometime after, so I doubt that her feelings would change that quickly.

She did spend all school time with him...
So the hug was a "Hi" friendly moment! That's all.

I agree! lol! they knew each other in High school, so why wouldn't she give him a hug hello after not seeing him for 3 years! I really don't think there was any forshadowing of a Pete/Lana thing lol... ...wishful thinking tho

Exactly, and vice versa.

When I run into girls I knew in high school but didn't know well, I give them a hug as a greeting

Well Pete and Lana do end up together in the Superman Mythology but it probably wont be shown in the series. Same with Clark and Lois, wont be shown either. Not even him crushing on her either.

that was strange they never really hung out at school except when it was through Clark or Chloe. I thought that was really strange when they hugged

^ You must be thinking too much of it. They've studied together before and have mutual friends. Nothing wrong with hugging an acquaintance - especially one that reminds you of a simpler time that has long since passed.

^^^ I agree with you. I think when Lana got close to Chloe and Clark in the first few seasons. She also got close to Pete. Pete was afterall Chloe and Clark's best friend. They didnt have to show it in the episodes but I think its implied.
It happens in real too.

Clark should've given Pete a big bearhug when he walked in the door.

Clark: OHMYGOD PETE! Out of my way Lana! *Throws her across the room*

Pete: Hey Clark I-

Clark: Come here you! *Lifts Pete off the ground and squeezes him tightly*

Yep *nod* That's how I would have written it...

^That's EXACTLY the kind of reaction I was hoping for! That would've made the return a bit more enjoyable.

Should've been more like "PETE!" rather than "Pete." :)

Actually, i recently attended my 10 year high school reunion, and I didn't greet anyone with a hug other than my closest girl freinds from high school. The hug was unusual because while Lana knew Pete, they were never more than close accquaintances.

I can understand why Lana hugged Pete, they were kind of friends. But I don't see why Clark and Pete weren't a little happier to see each other.

They may have had more of a friendship offscreen. For example, they volunteered together at the Youth Center, answering calls for the Teen Crisis Hotline (as seen in "Crisis").

it's not just you. I was wondering the same thing. They hardly ever talked to each other in seasons 1 - 3 why hug now?
