After only 30 mins into Hero, it all came back...I didn't miss Pete Ross at all.
I might be in the minority but Pete Ross' character is extremely annoying. His eagerness for recognition and fame for saving lives will never make him a hero, regardless of how many lives he saves.
What do you think?

I completely agree. Pete is beyond annoying in this episode.

If he didn't have such lame lines (courtesy of the brilliant writers who have been smoking crack ever since Season 4) then he wouldn't be that bad. The writers for this show are SO overpaid. I think a monkey could write better.

He was a little annoying, but when you think about it he has a right to be. Clark and him grew up together and were together most of the time, and Clark was better looking ect. so Pete got pushed into the shaddows a lot. Pete always wanted to be a hero like Clark and stand next to him, not behind him, this epi. was like Pete's dream come true, but it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. I have always liked Pete's charactor, he was an asoume friend to Clark and underwent a lot of pain just to keep Clark's secret, and I believe that gives him the right to be a little big headed and annoying in this epi.

Totally agree. I totally had forgotten how much Pete annoyed be before he left. He was all jealous of Clark and then he was again in this episode. But it was kind of fun to see an old character back anyway

Was I the only one who was disappointed with Clark's reaction after seeing Pete? I mean they haven't seen each other in 3 years! I kinda expected him to be a little happier then just a smile.

Back on topic, I was glad to see Pete back but yeah I was like wtf Pete when he became an ass in under a second when they were playing ball.

I thought the same thing!! You think he would have smiled huge and hugged him or something.

Oh hey! I drove you off and screwed up your life and haven't seen you in so many odd years but I'll just shake your hand even though we were once best friends ;)

In the ball scene, it sounded like Clark had tried to contact Pete, but he never returned Clark's calls. That might explain Clark's hesitation when Pete showed up at the door. If I were Clark, I would wonder about an ulterior motive.

I think it was awesome to have him back and yes it totally threw me back into season 3, but I mean you have to make Pete annoying to continue his talk about his life and havin to hide Clark secret. I think Sam has grown as an actor, and it would be kew to have him more often, change up the story line, but I will always love that Pete will always go after the Luthors...he tried at least..and Sam shows great pain when he's gettin beat up lol

SJ III deserves the Rodney Dangerfield award for "Least Regard of a Character in a TV Drama."

Even in real life he was treated as Tom's sidekick. I remember Sam making a joke about TW's ego on an award show a few years back and Tom Welling said something really smugly to the effect of "thats right Sam, read your one line."

On a selfish note, having Pete back gives me a reason to revisit my Pete the Boss Ross alter-ego, coming soon to a forum board near you!

I think it was bad writing that made Pete exactly the same, hang ups and all, as he was before almost dying in Season 3. I thought he learned this lesson after his drag racing fiasco. It makes me sad to say this but... now I wish Pete had never returned and I could have just imagined something great for his life now.

It's a testament to the bad writing as much as Sam III. But I think he's grown as an actor. There were some really strong moments. However... how much can you do with the plot he was given? He was as bad as a freak of the week from Season 1. Worse.

Mmhmm I feel the exact same way, they should have just left his character alone now that I've seen the 'comeback' episode. I don't understand why they brought him back just to have another fight with Clark, didn't they take care of that in seasons 1-3?
Less fighting/confrontation, more catching up and reminiscing dammit! I mean isn't that what we all wanted to see? *Sigh* Oh well. :\

Ouch, did Tom really say that? That's harsh, poor Sam. :(

Yep, the clip is on YouTube... it was actually from the 2002 Teen Choice Awards... after Tom puts Sam in his place, his facial expression can only be described as "you just shot my puppy."

Not only does Tom get "Choice Male Hottie," he probably gets to make out with the pre K-Fed era Britney Spears afterwards.

I wasn't impressed by the writing for this episode but with all the spoilers, I can't say I was surprised. A few weeks ago I posted my prediction of the show going like this:

People actually seemed worried that AlMiles are gonna screw Pete character over in this episode and I find it kind of funny since I'm pretty much 100% sure it'll play out this way:

1. Pete will come back upset at the way Smallville has changed since his departure.

2. Lex will threaten to do something to Chloe in order to get Pete to do something against his will.

3. And at the final moment of the show, Pete will "see the light" and do what is right.

They aren't brining him back to tear him down. They know SJ3 has a crowd of fans on the forums who've been awaiting his return since season 4 (2004). He'll leave gracefully but his feelings towards Smallville-present will be understandingly upsetting.

^ That just might prove that any one of us can write an episode of Smallville in 1 minute!

I was happy enough to see Pete back for the nostalgia of it all. He slightly helped push a story arc further and may possibly make another return. I liked the over-explanation of the kryptonite rendering his attitude for the worse; It made me less upset to hear him give Clark a hard time. In the final scenes where Pete apologizes for his uncontrollable behavior, it was clear that Pete has put those days aside and has already matured over the years.

ha yeah i agree... At first I was psyched "Hey It's Pete Ross!!!" but about 5 minutes later I remembered I despised him.

I never despised him. I feel it's horrible writing on the writer's part. It pisses me off that they made him like that. Pete was always a great friend to Clark. And it pisses me off even more that Tom would say something like that to Sam, that's rude and egotistical, just because you THINK you're better looking than someone else does NOT mean it's true. Yeah I think Tom is great looking but some might think that Sam is better looking. That completely changes my POV on Tom. I thought he was such a nice person, now I'm not so sure. :(

Clip. Maybe that was supposed to be said, but I can't tell. Either way still very rude.

It was a really low cheap shot but the irony is that Sam's the better and more experienced actor. Not to mention Clark and Lex are the stars of the show anyway.

Besides, Tom may have gotten the role for Clark Kent not only due to his resemblance to Christopher Reeve but also because he wasn't a very convincing actor - a actual trait that Clark Kent bares for the sake of the audience in every interpretation. :D

I really didn’t care that much about his character during Seasons 1-3. During that period, Lex was a pretty decent guy and really was Clark’s best friend. Pete was really an afterthought. I do think he would make a pretty good addition to the cast for Season 8 although I would prefer the addition of Ollie. He has a better understanding of the superhero life and is a better mentor for Clark.

In “Hero”, Pete was really more irritating then welcome. Although it continues a Smallville concept that being kryptonite infected makes you a real jerk (Chloe being one of the few exceptions).

Maybe TW was rude to Sam because Pete annoys him too. But rude is rude is rude. It's all hurtful.

I feel bad for SJIII in regards to him always being used for product placement. Even now when he comes back, it is to promote chewing gum.

It was insinuated in this episode that Kryptonite has a property in it that makes people imbalanced emotionally. So I guess that was to blame for Pete's attitude with Clark at the farm. Though I do understand why he would feel that Clark's secret would be alot to keep without the pressure becoming too much.
