"Hero" - Best 13th Episode of the Series?

Season 1: "Kinetic" - Ex-jocks turned thieves whose kryptonite-saturated tatoos alter their molecular structure, pass through walls and rob buildings, including Lex's mansion.
Season 2: "Suspect" - More than one person had the opportunity and motive to shoot Lionel Luther, but the prime suspect is Clark's dad.
Season 3: "Velocity" - Pete's illegal street racing puts him in gambling debt and puts Clark in a dilemma over how far he'll go to help his pal.
Season 4: "Recruit" - Metropolis U's football program wants Clark. Clark discovers the superstar Met U. player, Geoff, secretly has superhuman powers.
Season 5: "Vengeance" - Clark finds an understanding spirit in a super-powered female vigilante, who too, has lost a parent. However, their attitudes about how to fight crime divide them.
Season 6: "Crimson" - An aphrodisiac lipstick makes Lois fall in love with the first man she sees: Clark. Clark crashes the Lex-Lana engagement dinner to take Lana away.
Season 7: "Hero" - Pete comes to town while touring with the band, One Republic. While in town, he etas a piece of Kryptonite-laced gum and develops super-powers.

It'll have a hard time beating "Vengeance" and "Crimson".Agreed. Crimson was part of the excellent comeback Season 6 made after a dodgy first half season. Hydro-Justice-Labyrinth-Crimson was an excellent stretch of episodes that ignited a great 2nd half of the season last year.

And Vengeance was unforgettable if only for the closing scene.

Aaron & Todd Helbing, wrote this, and it's their first time writing for smallville. Chances are they didn't do it justice.

I suggest Skipping it, if you're a fan of all or either Clark, Chloe, Pete, Jimmy, and even Kara.

If you're a Lex fan, it's somewhat of a good episode for him.

I can't see a FOTW episode beating Vengeance and Crimson (even though Vengeance contained a technical FOTW, she was clearly meant to be more in the superhero episode category). Then again, it has Pete. No way will it be any worse than Kinetic, Suspect, and Velocity.

ETA: Actually, come to think about it, since this one has Pete, the FOTW status is once again only a technicality and is more of a character centered episode. I will hope for the best but I'm still fighting off my upset at them using the "Hero" episode title for filler.

Even if I still did not see Hero, Crimson is my favourite ever. Vengeance and Suspect were great, I have a fantastic memory of my shock when I found out about Ethan.

I liked "Crimson" the most. The plot was pretty solid and the character development was nice as well. "Hero" would be about third or fourth in my list. "Vengeance" comes next for me.

I've noticed a ton of product placement and in show ads this season, but I have to say I really don't mind. We are getting the most awesome season the show has had. It is kicking the crap out of five. The ads pay for the killer special effects (flying, Brainiac, Canary Cry...) which have all been top notch this season. I honestly don't mind this ad stuff one bit if it keeps delivering such wicked payoff!:D

As far as Best 13th, mine goes to Crimson, but Season 7 has already won a *lot* of these polls this season so I'm not complaining. Definitely one of the best, if you're, y'know, actually into it for the story and aren't just wanting exactly how *you* would write the story to appear on screen, but actually want to see what REAL writers would do rather than recycling old ideas that certain people *cough* want to be recycled.

Gotta go with Crimson. Lois being all lovestruck and pining over Clark, that was classic. Then the scene at the engagement dinner where Lois was eating all the desserts and whining , "what does SHE have that I don't have?" was hilarious. Plus I am a sucker for "Bad" Clark. I love it when he takes over.

Oh and the hot Lois and Clark action was a huge bonus of course. :D

I would probably give Hero 3rd place...

#1 - Has to be Vengenance. Fantastic episode from start to finish. Reckoning was god awful. But luckily Vengenace was a great follow up.

#2 - Crimson was a great episode. Very entertaining, and some good Clois/Clex moments in the episode.

#3 - Hero wasn't perfect but highly enjoyable for me. Great continuity, the return of Pete, and a lot of great scenes.

I said Vengeance. It was so dark and depressing and Clark met Andrea who, in my recollection was the first person he has met out there in the world helping all sorts of people, you could say he met his first superhero. Not to mention, the overtoned Batman homages were cool. That is not what makes this the best 13th episode for me. It was the reason Clark met this girl, Jonathan's watch and his Mom being mugged. When everything is fixed, he has the watch back and all is good and he goes inside the house, there's Martha watching that video of Jonathan and Clark on the tractor. Martha is crying and Clark has this look that says I don't know if I can go on without my Dad. Then Jonathan waves and says goodbye. That moment bursts me into tears everytime I see it. It holds a special place in my heart for the emotions in it ad the emotions it invoked in me. I felt Clark's pain. I know that's strange, but I did. That's why, for me, Vengeance was the best. Hero was good, it brought out some deep truths Calrk needs to deal with robably with everybody, but it was not the best. I understand that Pete is bitter about everything, but he was just so not Pete. He was "on" kryptonite, but for the amount he had, nothing that major should have happened to him. The plot device was just lame for me. It was good, but not the best.

I completely agree with this one. I like 'Vengeance' the most for all those reasons, and agree with the lame plot device.

'Vengeance' is my favorite, followed by 'Hero,' and then 'Recruit.' I love any episode with sports involved (like the one with the kryptonite-enhanced high school baseball players), so that's why Recruit was pretty cool.

I really liked Crimson for its second half, when Clark crashes the wedding party. Like 'Hero,' the premise of a character getting changed whether it be mental or physical was dumb- where in 'Hero' Pete chews some gum to get his power, Lois puts on red-K lipstick to change her. But I feel that both shows overall were solid if you overlook the silly premise (krypto-lipstick and krypto-chewing gum).

Wow, I didn't notice how many of the 13th episodes sucked! I had a hard time choosing cause almost none of these were good, to my mind. (although I find it interesting that Velocity was also a 13th episode!)
I finally went with Suspect. That was a pretty good mystery with a killer (heh) twist at the end.

i see Superman in that scene...it's one of my all time favorites...you feel sad aand proud at the same time...
