I usually don't start threads, but I just had a "Euraka moment."
This didn't even really sink in the first time I watched the episode, but it stood out when I was watching a clip just now.
I find it interesting that Lex aimed for Finley's shoulder. Given that he's so close to darkness, I would've expected him to aim for the heart or (like Finley) the head. You only aim for the shoulder when you want to put someone down without killing them. Only, at this point, you wouldn't think Lex would think twice about killing some wacko.

Lex was basically shooting from the hip. Shooting center mass.. He just happened to hit the shoulder. Pretty common for someone using a hand gun. It's actually very difficult to be that accurate under pressure like that.

I disagree. They were both aiming pretty steady. At the time they both pulled the trigger, both were pretty rock steady. I could see it if Lex had just run in, aimed and fired. Or if he'd gotten shot first, and just pulled his trigger in reaction. But both guys had plenty of time to take aim and hit what they were shooting at.
I could see it if Lex's bullet grazed the guy's arm or something. Then you could argue it was all luck and chance. But a shoulder shot is the classic place to shoot someone if you want to incapacitate someone without killing him. (Just as BC's knife was headed for Lex's shoulder in "Siren.")
And I have no doubt Finley hit Lex exactly where he was aiming, being nuts and all.

I agree with Doright. Also there wasn't really a lot of time, I mean if whoever shot first would come out the victor, they felt pressured and probably hesitant about killing so they were rushed to get the shot out. They were both aiming at each other and deciding, like it was them thinking that took up the time not them aiming. That kind of quick decision is not aiming and breathing right and focusing. I think whatever each hit on the other would be considered lucky especially because it was dark. One was just much luckier than the other.
