when Clark asked lex why he didn't call him about kara, why was he so quick to assume he was lying about lana snubbing him? to me that was another big misstep in this ep, just the opposite of what they were trying to achieve...:\

^^ Well, honestly, my first and honest though was: "there goes Clark again, believing Lana can do no wrong, what a backward movement from last episode where Clark realizes she's not perfect"
Well... I know hanging up on Lex is not exactly a mistake but they made it look like that...
And if Clark just witnessed there's still good inside Lex, why does he believes he's lying as a first option? didn't he doubt, would he ask Lana later? I doubt it...
P.S: but yes, Lex was obviously lying.

I thought it was an obvious lie. Its really as simple as this.....why would Lex call Clark? He wants access to Kara. He wants to find out what she's hiding, and Clark by extension. Why would he call Clark and remove his opportunity for that? Also, doesn't Clark have a cellphone Lex could've called? Or if Lana kept hanging up on him, why not contact Chloe and tell her to get a message to Clark? And why did he take Lois' cellphone when she threatened to send the picture to Clark?
I think its pretty clear that Lex has absolutely no motive at all for calling Clark. I don't think it had anything to do with Clark thinking Lana could do no wrong. It was just Clark knowing, from what he witnessed, that Lex would not have wanted Clark anywhere Kara before he could work his manipulative charms on her.

The only thing is that it's a pretty easy thing to check whether someone has called you or not. Someone tells me they called me, I can find out whether or not they're lying in a couple minutes with caller ID. And, if that wasn't enough, Clark could always have Chloe do some computer mojo to find out whether or not Lex is telling the truth.
As tech savvy as he is, Lex would obviously know this. So why would he lie about something so easy to check?
Now, one could argue that he didn't try very hard to find Clark. He called the farm knowing there was a better than good chance that Lana or Clark would either look at the caller ID and not answer, or would answer without looking at the caller ID (as some of us still do) and then would hang up as soon as they realized who it was, not giving him a chance to say anything. So, later, he's honestly able to say, "Hey, I tried to call you, but..." Which is pretty much what he did.
So, I do think Lex called, and I do think Lana hung up on him.

Because, as he said in that last scene, he doesn't really care if Clark believes him or not. It just doesn't matter to him anymore. So, he took a shot. Clark wasn't buying it. No big deal for Lex, he doesn't care anyway.
The bottom line really is that there's no good reason for Lex to call Clark in the first place. What does he gain from that? Nothing.
