This episode was pretty much taken from Jennifer Lopez's movie "The Cell". Did anyone else see that movie? Have the writers lost their creativity? Do they have to resort to taking plots from movies now? This episode was lacking a lot of things - creativity being one of them. They took everything from that movie right down to the little kid who was still the good part of the "bad villain." Pretty much identical to the kid in "The Cell". He was the good part of that villain, too, and he had also been abused by his parents. Boring....Probably my least favorite episode of the season.

Never seen it before, but creativity hasn't been one of Smallville's strong points anyways. They delivered the plot and stuff pretty well even if it was ripped from that movie IMO. If they made a complete mess out of the episode as well as ripping it from the movie, then I'd say that much, but I dunno. I can't speak for everyone when I say that.

I unfortunately saw that movie when some friends dragged me to see it. You're right that it was pretty similar, but this episode was a million times better than The Cell. It had great acting and meant a lot.

This episode also reminded me of the movie Identity - but reversed a little.

It would have been awesome if Lex had that whole cape thing going on and tortured souls in his head like the dude in The Cell (awful movie by the way).

I'm sure it was easy for them to deliver the plot. They pretty much watched a movie and took the plot from it. It's boring for me to watch this episode, because it was so identical to The Cell. Now I'm wondering how many other movies they have stolen the plot from or will steal in the future. Not a cool idea in my opinion.

Smallville seems to rip a lot of things.

Just last week as I made a thread for the episode discussion, the gun scene was ripped from equilibrium.

Season 5's "Mercy" was ripped from 'Saw'.

You'd think they'd want their own ideas but I geuss not LOL

Was it? I'll have to go back and watch it again. I didn't see a resemblance but I could be wrong. I liked that movie........

I haven't seen Equilibrium, but I have seen The Cell and this episode was pretty much identical. Since I didn't really care that much for The Cell (except the colors and costumes were great), I didn't really care for this "remake" version.

You are totally right. That was a complete rip from Saw. I had forgotten about that. How do they keep getting away with stealing plots from movies. That's three now: Equilibrium, Saw and The Cell. I'm sure there are plenty more. This is sad. It would seem like someone would want to sue. I guess they change it up just enough to avoid that.

I see completely what you mean now. They totally took that from Equilibrium. That movie looks kind of interesting. What's it about? Next they will be ripping scenes from The Matrix, or have they already done that now?

Lexara (Lex/Kara) scenes similar to The Notebook? :p Not so much, but maybe...

Equilibrium takes place in the future after WWIII. They get rid of emotion because it causes war and they have to take daily injections to keep it that way. Christian Bale is an elite soldier who inforces these rules by killing "sense offenders" or those who don't take their dosages. He accidentally misses a dose one day and starts to feel, finally realizing he is the only one who can stop the government from taking the one thing away that makes us live.

Tis a really good movie :)

*pimps self*
I made a video to it and the description has the full synopsis and stuff.

Most tv episodes and movies are ripped off from another movie or tv show's episode, so no big deal. Mostly every scifi/fantasy show does this type of episode also. It's a repeated cycle.

Yeah, I agree. It's just in how it's executed in the actual episode IMO. And "Fracture" did a good job with that in my eyes.
