When Clark told Alexander not to give up and that he'd always be there for him, I felt like this was familiar. Before dying, Ryan told Clark not to give up! Remember the hug in the hot air balloon! Do you think the writer had this in mind? It was great anyway!!!

Yeah that scene was similar. I am unsure whether the writers had this in mind. I like how themes and in situations are repeated throughout the series. It shows that on Clark and Lex's journey that they can have the same advice and the experiences yet they react to them differently. This is what seperates Clark and Lex and causes them to take different paths.

The situation gave me a sense of hope for Lex on his future path. Perhaps one day their friendship might be re-kindled, which will ultimately be left up to Lex. Clark knows that there is still good in him he just has to find a way to get him to question the current path that he is taking be trying to be his friend once again.

I was thinking Clark might keep punching the evil Lex until he dies. That way Lex would be as innocent as a pony and there would be no need to watch out for him. But in 2-3mins that would have just completley destroyed the evil villain vs good hero section smallville relies on.
