What was the significance of the letter in Lionel's office that Lana was holding that was sealed with red wax?

Didn't it look like a calligraphed V stampted in it - something to do with the legacy of Dr. Virgil Swann, maybe? There is something on the Spoiler page for Traveller/Veritas that might relate to that (don't want to write it here).
Or maybe I'm just blind and imaging things...:)

I think it is spoiler related, but not a spoiler from K-Site. I remember reading something about something a while back. One of the posts up-thread did hit the nail on the head, but only partially - since there isn't anything directly related to it within the spoiler section.

That's what I'm thinking too, it's definitely a set up for Veritas.

Oooh! I wondered about that envelope! Doesn't it look like it has a cool story behind it? Maybe It's just a fancy wedding invitation.

Combined with the Sprint Clips I'm gonna go with the "V" standing for Veritas and it being the name of this little "society" that the adults formed. According to the clip
*SPOILERS*
Lex gets Lillian into trouble with Lionel by admitting to him that it was her who went through his stuff. Lillian then starts grilling him on what "Veritas" is. She probably found documents and perhaps even a letter with the same seal (which she would have opened and found out about the group).
*END SPOILER*

^ I don't think so.
Highlight text below to read the SPOILER.
It has something to do with V. Swan. It is something that V. Swan left for Clark. Lionel has it, and intends to give it to Clark. But something happens. Somebody steals it from Lionel. Now, we know that Lana is a suspect because she was shown to have been spying it. Lana is suspect #1. I think if you go back to the season where V. Swan died and sent Clark a letter in the mail, it also has the red wax seal on the envelope. The wax seal on the envelope in Lionel's office is also an indication that Lionel has not opened it.

What was the significance of the letter in Lionel's office that Lana was holding that was sealed with red wax?
What I want to know is why Lana was about 5 seconds from making out with it.

I think it has something to do with Veritas episode.
Veritas mean truth or it is a women from the Roman mythology. So maybe it is some woman sending letter to Lionel.
I have other speculations about that epi but i can't write about it in here.

Your explanation sounds interesting. It could imply other things though...more specifically, relative to space:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
In Roman mythology, Veritas (meaning truth) was the goddess of truth, a daughter of Saturn and the mother of Virtue. It was believed that she hid in the bottom of a holy well because she was so elusive. Her image is shown as a young virgin dressed in white.[1] Veritas is also the name given to the Roman virtue of truthfulness, which was considered one of the main virtues any good Roman should have possessed. In Greek mythology, Veritas was known as Aletheia.

Veritas also means (Very Energetic Radiation Imaging Telescope Array System) is a new major ground-based gamma-ray observatory with an array of four 12m optical reflectors for gamma-ray astronomy in the GeV - TeV energy range. Veritas Homepage (http://veritas.sao.arizona.edu/)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
490 Veritas is a big asteroid, which may have been involved in one of the more huge asteroid-asteroid collisions of the past 100 million years. At 115 and 125 km in diameter, Veritas and 92 Undina are the biggest of the 300-strong Veritas family of asteroids. David Nesvorný of the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder traced the orbits of these bodies back in time, and calculated that they formed in a collision of a body at least 150 km in diameter with a smaller asteroid some 8 million years ago. Veritas and Undina would have been the biggest pieces of that collision.

Wow, some of these theories are deep and stuff. The continuity is amazing here, lol. Maybe it has something to do with Gemini since from what litew8 said about Veritas tying in with space too.
Maybe Lana's been trying to get back at Lionel or something if she's holding the letter. Or one of her ancestors has a connection to the little group that was formed if it were true.

hmmm well I know they use to seal letters like that with wax in the good 'ole days (no, even before Dukes of Hazzard lol) specially if you watch The Secret DVD you'll see images of letters like that. Usually it means it's from (duh) a really really official source...but hmmm
I think it makes the most sense that it "Veritas" would refer to mythology. I mean, after all, we've already gotten "Aries" and "Gemini." However, I think they might change the title of that episode now the WGA strike is over... If the episode is about THE truth, why wouldn't they save it as a S7 finale?
