View Full Version : Nielsen Ratings for Persona

Talk about the Nielsen ratings for "Persona" here once they're released.
I don't think SV will do that great tonight. From what I've seen, the CW hasn't been promoting it well, and some of SV's regular viewers may be watching the Lost recap. :\

ya the ratings might be low. Lost might take away some viewers but dont know how many viewers bother with recaps. The CW stinks at promos lol. they show supernatural and smallville like only during each other or reaper. but they show gossip girl comercials during everything like 10 times per show lol.

I think the more likely reason for a drop (and there will be one) is the fact that the people who don't watch The CW regularly and check websites won't know when the show's coming back, since the schedules been so messed up.

i think its important to pay attention to the ratings in comparison to other shows.
like i think everyone is going to suffer because of the writer's strike, not just smallville.

Oh, most definitely. The only shows that aren't going to suffer due to the writer's strike are reality shows or seasons that started after the strike ended. Shows that got hit mid-season are gonna have a rough year regardless.

A recent article stated that they have lost around 50% of their young adult viewers from the strike.
I think that will show.
The channel CW - home of Gossip Girl and America's Next Top Model - lost 50 per cent of viewers in the 18 to 49-year-old bracket sampled by Nielsen. “It's hard to ignore the declines,” the Hollywood trade magazine Variety said. It said that last week's figures were the first real evidence of the damage from the strike because previous weeks had been skewed by sporting events and Christmas holiday programming.
Link: http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/tv_and_radio/article3279454.ece
ABC slid 23% and CBS 26%, while Fox was off about 15%. CW, meanwhile, hemorrhaged a full 50% of its year ago 18-49 audience.

Yep, I read that on another website, very bad. You'd think the CW would want to use their few SV episodes left to try and fix that, but it sounds like Dawn is going to try to put all the spotlight on the new PCD and ANTM seasons when they return and "boost the CW's ratings." (Btw, Dawn is from UPN, like ANTM, so it's going to make her look better in her bosses' eyes if a show she had a hand in creating does well. That's why SV and SPN don't get the attention they deserve.)

Lost might take away some viewers but dont know how many viewers bother with recaps.
That's what I thought too, but then I found out that Wednesday night's repeat of the Lost S3 finale had over 8.5 million viewers. :\

Hopefully it doesn't go below 3.71 million, although I can't imagine it going much above it considering the break.
This episode should have more than 5 million viewers -- it had James Marsters back as Brainiac, Bizarro, a SM movie star as a new Kryptonian -- but I'll now be happy if it gets at least 4 million. :\

Does that make it a 3.8? About what is to be expected. CW's numbers are down all around, Smallville got a bump from it's lowered December rating but didn't come near the season average. The writer's strike is having a clear effect, it's unfortunate that the producers weren't willing to do anything to prevent this before ratings all over TV started dropping.

I don't see next week doing too hot either. Not only is there a new 5th Grader in the hour, but there's also the season premiere of Survivor and a new Deal or No Deal. That's going to steal most of SV's family audience. Not to mention the new episode wasn't even promoted last night. And I doubt a preview of Jumper is going to pull in very many people.

3.82mil. Not bad, considering everyone is trying to remember or get caught up on Lost. It's been so long. I taped Lost, but I bet alot taped Smallville. Next week in the 8pm slot is a repeat of the Lost premiere. Hopefully Smallville will do better. For CW, Smallville is doing great. Why there was no trailer for next weeks return of GA is beyond me:\

That is whack! They ALWAYS have a trailer of the next week's episode if it is going to be a new one. Made me think there was some hokey schedule and next week's was a repeat and 'Siren' was the week after. It's even more unbelievable since next week's new episode features a DC future-Justice League member. They usually pimp the heck out of those.
I would say that the marketing department is getting lax with the Strike still going on, but Supernatural had a trailer for their new episode next week. (LOVE that show) It seems like they (the higher-ups) just aren't interested in Smallville anymore.
I did get to see it online though and I have a Nielsen box. ;) I've only had it this year though.

I know. For a show that's winding down, and by this I mean a show that doesn't have many seasons left, it's doing very well. Most shows that have been on this long, if they make it that long, don't do near as well.
Like I said above, it's even more puzzling since there are DC characters involved.

I'm definately going to go ahead and blame this partially on the strike.
I know myself, for one, have been losing interest in ANY show because of the strike. Plus, the whole maybe a season 8/maybe not/SV could end series finale on a cliffhanger is kind of a turn off. It's almost hard to tune in every week, since the show might just get dropped at season 7 and not have a proper ending.
I'm not surprised the ratings have fallen. I'm actually surprised they're still so high.

All the CW does is promote GG and it's getting rather annoying. They spend less money and effort on SV. Smallville is the only show that is actually keeping any viewers watching the network. SV has a big fan base and you'd think they'd spend time or effort on that a bit to show more trailers.

You'd think. I don't know what happened to their priorities, but I get a good chuckle out of the Gossip Girl promos calling it a "phenomenon" and saying it's "sweeping the nation" or whatever. Really CW? Why is it a ratings failure then?
Get back to focusing on Smallville, the show that's kept your network from dying for years now.

 The biggest hit of the season, the show everyone's talking about, blah, blah, blah. It's kind of pathetic what the CW will do to get viewers for that show.

Shouldn't we all e-mail CW like crazy to tell them what we think instead of just here in this forum? Tell them how much we enjoy watching this show and need the trailer at the end of a new episode! If no one speaks up, then nothing gets changed, is how I see it. From my past experiences, I find writing letters and speaking to the appropriate individuals have definitely made positive changes in a number of various situations in my life. Let's all bombard CW now! It worked for Star Trek back in the 60's, so why not with this show. Let's go, let's go!

It's not the advertisments, well maybe some, but it's mainly the strike. I almost didn't watch because the strike is still going. Have you looked at the spoilers?
It's kind of like, why tune in after a 2 month wait, just to see 3 episodes, and then another month wait, and then only 3 more episodes until a huge 5 or 6 month break.
That's the problem. I'm one of the biggest Superman fans, so if I almost didn't watch, guess what? That episode had 3 Kryptonians and no irritating Kara. So, it did really, really good. It was a good episode. Without the strike, 2 million more easily.
Gee Thanks TV execs for not settling with the writers. Thanks for taking our favorite show from us, we were only getting one more seaon, now we won't get the rest of this season.
I'm not looking forward to a Green Arrow episode next week.

It doesn't matter how great a show is if people can see it. Last I checked The CW's broadcast range of affiliates only covered 83% of the U.S. so there's still millions that they're missing from the ratings, I mean The WB covered around 91% of the country so what's with that? I think it was stupid that when The CW started it only had 48% but th fact they increased it almost 40% in a year is at least something. Apparently The CW plans to eventually get more than 95% of the country but it's a shame is isn't currently like that now! Btw for Nielsen ratings, do they count only the U.S. or do they include Canada and Mexico and other countries that view the show at the exact same time also? I mean there could be like a million viewers watching from Canada but if Nielsen doesn't take that into account that's the difference between 4 million and 5 million which is a big deal.

this is huge for smallville. this is why i see no point in having people go into a semi-internet panic when the ratings aren't that good.

"Siren" was even higher at 4.528 million Live+7 viewers.
I wonder if the CW realizes that if a SV spinoff aired and had just half of "Siren's" viewership, it would still be doing better than at least seven shows that have aired on the network this season.
