I just got done watching this anime movie that everyone was claiming a hit but I don't see it that way. I'm sorry but I thought it was really lame and boring and the plot didn't make any sense at all. they didnt explain crap. It was horrible and widely over hyped.

Where there not enough Pokemon or giant robots?

I think what you meant was - Visually Astonishing, Dark and Original.

Akira is a historical milestone in animation.
Its the Citizen Kane of cartoons, dude.
Its the condensed story totaled over 2000 pages, and six volumes.
The movie paved the way for anime in the U.S. It was made in 1988, for starters.
Its the definite Japanese `death-to-Disney' animation piece. It deals with (than current) motifs like youth culture, delinquency, over population, social unrest and future uncertainty weighed against the historical spectre of nuclear destruction and Japan's post-war economic revival. It hands you questions, it doesn't spoon feed you answers.
At the time, most anime cut production corners with limited motion, such as having only the characters' mouths move while their faces remained static, like Speed Racer.
It broke from this trend with meticulously detailed scenes, exactingly lip-synched dialogue – a first for an anime production (voices were recorded before the animation was completed, rather than the opposite) – and super-fluid motion as realized in the film's more than 160,000 freakin animation cels.
Watch it again, catch the subtleties. (You wont find that on Smallville. ) Akira's tone is totally cyberpunk, and the motion is all about hyper-reality, which later became known as "bullet time." Its influence is all over modern cinema, who knows if there would be a Blade Runner or Matrix, you have to wonder how very different Western cinema would be today.

Don't get me started on the political left-wing questions, it presented.

......and I'm not even a anime nut.

Z-out.

I own the tomes of manga, DVD, and have watched it multiple times. I usually don't say this, but: I do not understand where you come off at saying "it was really lame and boring and the plot didn't make any sense at all." Perhaps if you could better articulate your grievances, then we could actually start a discussion. Otherwise, as your opinion presently festers, it seems like you did not give it much thought and just came online to whine.
