Acceptable sizes

I've looked through the faqs and the help desk forum - what I'd like to know and it would be helpful to have it in one place - what are acceptable sizes for avis, banners (not to be posted and I understand they are not accepted here), caps, manips, wallpaper and anything else you can think of, for Ksite? Appreciate your help.:)

As of the upgrade this past Sunday, the rules are outdated concerning image sizes.

However, they ARE there, stickied in the posts above this thread.

None of the updated rules have been finalized as of yet. In regard to avatar sizes, you WILL be prompted if they are too large upon upload.

In regard to image sizes inside of posts, nobody actually follows them. I've actually just installed something to limit image widths, since there are several posts where people have posted upwards of 1000px wide images that completely break the layout of the forums.

Cool! We've needed that for a long time. People don't seem to listen too well about not posting those huge pics.
Just curious, what is max width before the installed limiter (rejects, scales, chops,...whatever) the image?

It only scales, and I think I put it at 700 pixels. Not really any point in following the "200px" rule since there is actually 764px of available space in the postbit, and it's not like it can prevent people from showing the images or anything.

This way at least the layout doesn't break when some jerk uploads a 1000px wide image. :) Still loads awfully, though.

iI tried to upload an icon and it didnt work. I guess the limit is 29 KB at the moment!? :/

29k sucks. We were finally able to make decent animated avis without slicing and dicing and decoloring them to crap. Now? Why bother. :(

Oh, noes! All of our LiveJournal sized icons won't work now. Hopefully it's a transitional thing.
