Does Lana ever have an emotional scene expressing how she feels about Clark? The closest I can think of is the duo saying "I love you" to each other in Exodus, but I can't recall Lana talking about any aspects of Clark's personality that she likes.

That was a great letter that Chloe wrote for Clark. It really summed up her feelings for him beautifully.

I think my favorite romantic line from Clark had to be in Phoenix when Lana asks him if he even missed her while he was gone.

Clark says, "I missed you every second."

That is such an intense line. So much better than something bland like "Of course I missed you."

It implies the kind of longing that he has for her (or obsession, if you like to call it that), and it's so out of character, in a way, for him to express something like that - but yet so powerful and revealing that it catches you off guard.

It's like a glimpse inside of his heart.

Who has the best lines? I'd say that Chloe, Lex and Lionel have the best lines, because they use a lot of phrases, figure of speeches, idioms, cliches, etc. Whenever Lionel, Lex and Chloe start using phrases, I have to look them up in my phrase/cliche dictionary so I know what it means. That's one of the big reasons why I love watching Smallville, because I get my education by looking up these phrases. One time Lex said to Clark, "Clark, does the apple fall far from the tree?" and I had to look this up just to know what it means.
Clark, Martha, Lana and Lois all talk in simple language; you can understand what they mean, and you don't need a dictionary whenever they're talking. I also like the simple language, not too wordy.
I think Smallville has smart writers. They really know how to use a lot of vocabulary words; I have trouble putting vocabulary words into sentences. That's why I say that Chloe, Lex and Lionel have the best lines. One question: Allison Mack,Michael Rosenbaum, and John Glover, how do you remember all of your lines so perfectly?

I just loved how all that time he did those evil things, he always thought of himself as the good guy and blamed anything that went wrong on others (blamed Clark for Lana's injury in Shattered, blamed Lex for Sheriff Ethan doing everything he did in Suspect, etc).

yeah Lionel is the only exception. He has the BEST lines out of everyone. Good or evil, he's my favorite character.

I loved the Onyx quote: "Just a foolish dream. I'm awake now. A man can't deny his true nature, can he, Lex? No. We're Luthors. We're Luthors." One of the best lines of the series.

Just looking at those quotes reminds me why I keep watching this show.

I think Chloe's are boring. She makes a lot of obvious connections to pop culture-type things, and it's kind of tedious.

I like how Lex and Lionel parallel themselves to Rulers, Kings, etc. from history.

BUT I would have to say Clark and Lana have the best lines.
While Lex and Lionel's are interesting, no one would say that stuff in real life that often.

Clark and Lana sound the most realistic, so I prefer watching them.

My favorite line has to be from the episode "Red" back in season 2. This is the first time Clark's been exposed to red k and he asks Lex to borrow one of his cars. Lex doesn't want him to at first.

So Clark says, "Come on Lex. It's not like I'm gonna drive it off a bridge or anything!"

My second favorite line is when Lionel tells Pete that people are always weakest when they're angry and then Lionel get mad because Clark uses super speed to steal the kryptonite key.

Pete just smiles and says, "Careful Mr. Luthor. You wouldn't want to look weak!"

I think Lionel and Lex have some of the more interesting lines. Generally to support their priviliged/educated upbringing as Luthors. However Chloe's comments are well written for comedic relief. Each character has their value and I think the writers have well-balanced the characters in the show.

I think the way the actor "delivers the line" has just as much importance to what is actually said.

Well Lex and Lionel naturally but Lionel's are better of course. Lionel sets the stage for sarcastic, realistic, vulnerable (as in making others feel this way), cruel, witty, manipulative, dubious, and dark lines. Lex is second best to Lionel and Lois is the comedic relief in situations. Clark is a medium of sorts. Chloe is a medium of sorts as well. Lana's lines are usually pissed off or sad.
