The other day I was talking to my younger cousin who is a sophomore in high school and I was surprised to see how thin she had become. She wasn't really overweight, I think she just lost a lot of baby fat. So, I asked her how she feels now that she’s grown out of her awkward phase, and she told me she was still not satisfied with the way she looked. I was shocked!!! Then she went on to tell me she wanted breast implants. What the hell .. she’s only 14 years old! I should knock some sense into her .. I swear a lot of girls get the skinny image ideal from shows like Americas Next Top Model and other MTV crap shows, where the casts are made up of skinny girls with flawless features. Their should be a tv show that boosts your self esteem and let's you know your great just the way you are!

Everyone's always going to be unsatisfied with themselves in some way, whether it be personality or looks wise. That's just the way it is. However, the media does play into these weaknesses in people, but it's not completely the media's fault.

i don't know if this helps or not but not all skinny people are happy being skinny. i seriously need to gain weight and can't. but i'm not attractive skinny, i am icky skinny. i think very few people are actually OK with their bodies. it's really hard to deal with everything in the media and still feel ok.

Especially since most of the girls on those top model shows are rather unnatracitve, they definately should not be aspiring to become them. But, keep in mind, she is only 14, shes still just a kid and has a lot of growing up to do. Thats one of the reasons you aren't allowed to make those kinds of decisions at that age.

i have an incredible metabolism, no matter what i eat (AND I EAT MORE THAN SOME OF MY OVERWEIGHT FRIENDS!) I dont gain a pound. The only thing eating does for me is slow down my weight loss... :(

It's great that young people want to stay in shape and not be fat.

I am the same way with my cousin!
Though we are the same age, height and bodyframe, she weighs between 10 and 15 kilos less tham me! Now since I am usually described between normal and slim, you can imagine what they say about her!
And this sommer was especially bad! Granted unlike your cousin, my is fully aware of her problem, and has nothing against putting on some weight but I guess college life just guess in the way of that, exams, stress, boyfriend etc,... Not to mention she lives away from home, and mom's homecooking isn't at her disposal!
My advice is, just keep hammering on her that she needs to put weight on, like I and the rest of my familly do with my cousin.
As for her wish of a bigger chest, tell her to wait a couple years, and by then she might even wish they were smaller! :rotfl:

sad yet true :( i feel like it has to go way beyond just TV (friends, general media and pop culture) but its all just so sad. there's a new show coming out next year though that's actually pretty much aiming to REVERSE that mind set. its called How To Look Good Naked and Carson from Queer Eye is hosting it. I saw the commercial for it a few times and it looks really uplifting, hopefully it'll be something the right people will watch though. it really looks like it could help people with their outlook on their physical appearance.

I know I'm never going to be the most attractive woman to grace this planet, but I have my own sexiness which is internal, grown from my own self confidence: yes, I often hate my wide hips and my curves, but then I have my mother complimenting me on my JLo curves (LOL) and others complimenting my on my slender fingers and tiny hands, my eyes, my dimples, my hair... I realise that although there are parts of me I'll always hate, there are others people will always envy, and for that, I'm lucky.

I am the exact same way. We are blessed with fast metabolisms. I love eating whatever I want, whenever I want without worrying about being overweight.

I rather dislike my skinnyness, I do not like to inhale and see my rib bones. However I've excepted that this is just the way I am, and I love that. I do dislike other things about me, but have learned to deal.
My diabetes plays a big role with my weight, but I also inherited(sp?) a fast metabolism, and am very hapy with it. :D

Kudos to all the women willing! I can use a little advice in that department though… I guess I’ll have to wait ‘til Friday at 9pm to see!

Imagine a full blown up naked photo of yourself in Times Square? I can’t believe Carson got that woman to feel so comfortable and secure in her own skin that she could share it with all of Manhattan. And she looked damn good!
