Either way, I wish they'd put down that sodding sonic screwdriver!
I believe the RT was referring to the the Darth Maul-lookalike alien when they use that name. Though I could be wrong!

I understood from what I read that he was a Porg - that's his race. And, that he's called "The Host" - similar to Lorne in Angel before they gave him a name.
It makes far more sense gramatically, and the Angels sound far less threatening.
"Who are they?"
"The Host"
"What are they hosting? And shouldn't that be plural?"
"Naaaaaaah. Not hosting anything really, they've just come to kill us with their halos"
"What a **** name then Doctor"
"Yep!"
;)

sorry it is plural- just looked back at RT 'the hosts'
I've just read the RT myself. It doesn't specifically state that the Angels are the hosts, just that that's who the bad guys are. The Angels could still well be Axons, or more likely this year's pilot fish.
Even if the Angels are "hosting" it, they could still be Axons but RTD won't want that name banded about yet, will he?
Oh, and remember the "Blink" line - "The Angels Have the Phone Box" - what if it didn't refer to the Weeping Angels in that story?

the radio times says they are new monsters called the Hosts and that there is something worse behind them.

No, it says that "there" are new monsters called the hosts - but nothing specifically states that's who the angels are. They might well be - but that's not what it says and we know what RTD's like for hiding stuff...
Anyway... Mmm, Kylie in boots!

Yeah, atrocious :rotfl:
The one saving grace for this is that it was moffat that wrote it. However, I'm not sure whether I'm going to watch the new series with catherine bloody tate in it.
But yes...Kylie in boots. Jolly nice. >.>
We have pictures!

I loved the doctor in this! The story was okay, cleaver how they used the titanic, but I felt it dragged on a little too much.

Guess what? They got the best ratings since City of Death! It's 12.2 million viewers! Oh boy. It's not the final ratings, it will come later. :D Awesome!

I liked it quite a lot. Kylie was wonderful and I wish she was a season-long companion, but I guess that's never gonna happen now. :( The Doctor was brilliant as always, David Tennant delivered one of his best performances. The story seemed just about the right length for a special extra long episode, to me. It never dragged or made me bored. Can't wait for the new season.

Bit of a flashback to 1977/1978 for me. The Hosts clearly seemed to be inspired by the Robots from the 1977 "Robots of Death", whilst their habit of prefixing their responses with "Information..." seemed to be apeing Zen, the Liberator's main computer in "Blakes 7". Actually, since "Robots of Death" was set on a "Storm Mine", I wonder if that's why Russell T Davies had the Titanic powered by a "nuclear storm drive"?
Overall, it was what it set out to be - a fun Christmassy Doctor Who take on 70s disaster movies, with some neat topical jokes about premium-rate phone-in quizzes (for non-Brits, there have been a series of scandals surrounding these in the U.K.) and "The Apprentice". David Tennant was in his usual superb form, Kylie Minogue was O.K., if a little flat (I think both in terms of performing ability and charisma, she is much better as a singer than actress), but it was the "old crowd" - Geoffrey Palmer, Clive Swift and Bernard Cribbins who really stole the show.
Not the greatest episode since the 2005 revival, but a fine appetiser for Series 4.

I agree. Xmas Invasion was my fav. I mean is just seemed dragged out a little bit when they were crossing the bridge. Maybe it was the fact that it was around 12 am and I was tired lol. I thought Tennat was great and I like the references that all the other Christmas episode incidents were mentioned plus all the jokes.
Best ratings since 1979 :)

It wasn't my most favourite episode, but meh. It was good enough. If anything, I think it's quite a good advocate for RTD leaving.
I enjoyed it - it was a perfect Christmas Day, had a bit too much to drink, slice of sci-fi to sit down and watch with the whole family. As a standalone episode it loses a bit, but in that timeslot I couldn't argue with it. It was no Genesis of the Daleks/The Girl in the Fireplace/Blink, but it didn't need to be - and it would have lost its impact there if it was.
Quite liked the new music too. Must be getting a bit mellow in my old age...

not great but entertaining enough. At least it wasn't as bad as the cyberman 2 parter or the dalek 2 parter from this year.
I wouldn't have minded bringing back that old guy as a companion, it would have made a nice change.
I couldn't look at him without hearing "Oh, Jobel" in my mind ;)
(Or RICHARRRRD! of course ;))

Yeah, i liked Mrr Copper, he seemed friendly enough, he didn't get panicky in bad situations, and he got on really well with the Doctor. It could of worked!

Well... It was fun but not as good as Christmas Invasion or Runaway Bride. I thought Kylie was sweet. The moment where the angels flew up with the Doctor was a highlight.
Either way, I wish they'd put down that sodding sonic screwdriver!
I love the screwdriver.

I thought that too. LOL!
I'm really excited about Donna being the new companion. I've... I haven't seen Catherine Tate in much. I can see the frustration if she's a one note performer. But I really enjoyed Runaway Bride. For a lot of that episode she was upset and confused. Once she caught on she mellowed out some in attitude and volume. LOL!
ETA: I looked up Catherine Tate on Youtube and this is one of the first things that popped up. LOL!
