View Full Version : Is Kara's memory linked to the Blue Crystal?

It seems like more than a coincidence that after Clark shattered the Blue Crystal, Kara lost her memory.

It's either that, or Jor-El did it on purpose.

Not necessarily. Jor-El claims Zor-El is responsible. Given the way that Zor-El was in the process of doing something to Kara when Clark dispelled him, it seems at least possible that Jor-El's being truthful.

Well it looked to me like the only thing Zor-El was doing to Kara was choking the daylights out of her.
I'm gonna have to rewatch that scene again. My impression was that after Clark shattered the crystal, Jor-El banished Kara out of his life as a sort of retribution for not listening to him in the first place, because didn't he say something along the lines of "Kara is no longer your worry."

That could be. I'm quite unclear about what actually happened in that scene, so I'm not saying I think you're wrong. My impression was that Zor-El was bringing Kara to the crystal console that the camara zoomed in on a couple times. It seemed to me that Zor-El was doing something to her. I thought that Clark didn't smash the crystal in time to stop him. Or maybe Clark interrupted the process, which stopped Zor-El from finishing what he was doing. Which might make a bit of sense, as banishing Kara to Detroit is an odd master plan for either El brother, lol.
Regarding Jor-El's statement at the end (I think you paraphrased it pretty well), it could be that you're correct, and Jor-El sent her away. Or it could be that Jor-El doesn't particularly care about Kara at the moment, since he needs to discipline his own son. It might have been his way of saying, "You have bigger issues than Kara to worry about right now, Kal-El."

Maybe Zor El was purposefully stripping her powers and giving her amnesia so he wouldn't have to kill her?

That's my theory. Who knows.

From the angle of Zor-el choking Kara and forcing her back towards some crystals, I thought he was about to impale her with some.
Although destroying the crystal, destroyed Zor -el- affected whom he was choking at the time- no powers/memory for Kara.
We saw a nice shot of Kara's bracelet. Maybe it can 'reboot' her because this storyline makes no sense.

I thought the same thing about the impaling! I don't know, Zor-El seems to have a pretty good understanding of how the Fortress technology works, so I thought maybe something about that crystal console was important. Speaking of, I really hope Clark has at least asked Jor-El off camara to teach him something about the Fortress itself.
You raise an interesting possibility, that perhaps destroying the crystal while Zor-El was choking Kara affected Kara in some way. Maybe it interfered with whatever Zor-El was trying to do? It seems that sending Kara to Detroit with no powers and no memory just couldn't have been Zor-El's actual plan.

Do we really know that she has no powers? I mean, she might have forgotten about it, but couldn't they still be there?

Thanks TampaVille. It just seems that in Smallville technology affects its creator/ user in adverse ways.
Heck, Braniac and the other crystal is a good example.
I do think that him being destroyed while interacting with Kara caused her condition. Perhaps he was trying to take her memory/abilities or banish her somewhere like the Phantom zone and his destruction interfered with his real plan.
Blumi X - Good point. There was that one scene where it showed a close up of her hands as she tried to force the door opens. As she vigorously tried to open the door, there seemed to be a pause as though she was surprised. Of course, we didn't get a good explanation of this or even a full display of her lack of powers. If a truck struck her while she was lying in the street for example, the outcome could have shown us if she had powers or not.
Eh. Cliff hanger?

I'm pretty sure they zoomed in on the door thing as a way of saying, "Lookie lookie! Kara have no powers!" Who knows though. Maybe Brainiac is really the door to the coffeeshop, given SV plotlines.
As far as whatever Zod was trying to do... I'd really laugh pretty hard if he was aiming for the Phantom Zone, but missed and hit Detroit. :)
Damn... discussing SV has been getting me so cynical lately. I miss the good old days, when you could at least get a glimpse of coherency off in the distance. :)

MY theory is by not listening to Jor El, Jor El gave Clark another punishment for being a bad boy by taking away Kara. When is Clark going to learn that father knows best and he needs to do what he's told? Everytime Jor El gave Clark orders, Clark disobeys and dooms the world by doing so. Now Clark has to take responsibility for his action that he lost Kara.
Course we all really know that the actress playing her has limited appearances so this is just a story to keep her locked away for a few weeks or so. Too bad the writer's strike is going to spoil things if this isn't wrapped up. We may never see Kara again in the same manner we don't see Shelby, and then people will start leaving where the heck is Kara posts?

I think that the only way she can get it back is through Billy Crystal.
