I'm trying to figure out the story behind the red and blue primary colors. Both Clark and Kara seem to always be wearing red and blue. But why? Lara and Zor-El aren't into that color theme.......Anyone?

Well, if you watch Memoria in season 3, I believe, it shows when Jor-El and Lara were just about to send Clark off to Earth. They were wearing red and blue....

The whole primary color thing started on the first episode by the writers, Clark is mostly seen wearing Superman colors.
Now that kara is on the scene, she too wears them.

Originally I believe they did it as a nod to the future costume and never got over it.
Lara & Zor-el never wore a costume in the comics.

Memoria showed neither Jor-El nor Lara. You only heard their voices.

Wasn't there a scene where it showed them holding hands before sending baby Kal-El into space? I'm pretty sure you could see the color of their robes.

Yup, that's what I meant. You couldn't see their faces, but you could see what they were wearing.

At first I thought it might be a Kryptonian thing, like maybe those are the El family colors. But the other Els like Zor-El and Lara don't seem to dress that way. I think Clark just likes the look of those colors, and doesn't like wasting a lot of time shopping, so he just sticks with what he likes and always buys the same color clothes. Kara probably started wearing it because she sees Clark doing it all the time, so she tries to fit in by imitating her cousin, who has more experience on Earth than she does.

I think Zor-El and Lara's outfit seem to resemble the side they are on. Lara seems to be wearing white representing pure or good while Zor-El is wearing black concluding that he is evil and the villian

I remember hearing that the TPTB didnt want clark in a superman suit, so they decided to use his primary colors for his wardrobe instead.

Superman's uniform colors are Red and Blue.
