Zor-el had been to Earth before though. So he'd know the extent of his powers.

At this point, Huey, Dewey and Louie could fly.

Zor El told Clark he had been to earth before, so I am sure that he knows the abilities and has learned them all before. And dont forget, even Jor El flew in relic. Clark is younger then them so his abilities arn't as matured which is probably why he hasnt mastered that one yet

I thought it was said that to fly he has to fully embrace his kryptonian destiny. But they way he and Jor-El fight that may not happen in our lifetime.

If Lana had her powers for just five more minutes last week, she would have mastered flight too.

What I would like to know is why the women folk were so weak and helpless? Why didn't either or both Lara and/or Kara try to fight him? How did Zor El get the knife away from Kara so easily and why didn't Lara pick it up and stab him? Kara has no problem throwing Clark around.

Clark can't fly not because he is not mature yet he can't fly because he has never tried. If maturity was an issue the other forms of him would never be able to fly

Anytime Clark has ever really stood up to her (traintracks in Kara) he's been able to shut her down pretty easily.
Edit: Forgot, there was also the episode where he caught her punch in his palm without budging.

Lara was a lover not a fighter she had never been trained in combat and Kara would not attack her father

Yes, but Lara's family & more importantly her son was in danger if Zor El was allowed to continue on as he did. I would think that her maternal instinct to protect her son & neice would override any "lover not a fighter" tendencies she may still have.

Lara got the dagger to stab him, and Kara offered to and in fact tried to stab him. So they were both prepared to kill him.

But there were two of them against one, and they didn't even try. And it doesn't explain why Lara stood there like a lump after Kara dropped the knife and was being throttled by ZE.
But of course the feeble, helpless women had to wait to be rescued by Clark, WHO HAD LOST HIS SUPERPOWERS!

I think it may also be due to a phobia. On more than one occassion. Clark has mentioned a fear of flying.

Its pretty much gospel in Smallville that everyone flies except for Clark.
Could be his choice of underwear.

I was also wondering why Lara didn't help out. I figure it must be a plot point to get Clark in to save the day. As for Zor-El being able to stop Kara so easily, I like to think about it in terms of Humans.
I think to a degree it works just like Human's do. Kryptonian's have super powers on Earth, however, when faced against each other, I think it figures in as it would between humans. Stronger muscles = more power. Pit a human man in good physical condition against a younger female, and the majority of the time they will be stronger. I figure it works the same way with kryptonians. Zor-El's greater super strength is in relation to his physical strength without super powers.
As for Clark, it would work in the same way, and also the fact that he's had more time to soak up the rays of the yellow sun.
