For Vol. 2 - then they'll start Vol. 3. I think there is a total of 5 episodes left before the strike affects the show. So 3 for Vol. 2 and then 2 for Vol. 3 to start before..... well, we'll wait and see.

Writer's strike. They're running out of episodes. With the strike looming, Heroes, as most shows did, set up a kind of "fall finale" in the event that the strike drags on, which it looks like it will.

In three episodes, we could have the season finale on our hands.

The obvious answer: the writer's strike.

The other answer: mid-season break. Most shows take a break in December.

If the strike gets resolved over the holiday, it would be back. Maybe a little late, but it would be.

That's not the exclusive answer. Even if there wasn't a strike right now, it would still be time for the mid-season break.

Nope - according to online sites and mags - there are a total of 6 Heroes episodes done before they run out (including tonight's so that makes only 5 new ones).

After that.... well we're looking at an early season finale..... :(

They reshot episode 11 to serve as the season finale if the strike is not resolved by then, so they don't intend to run the episodes shot after that.

Herosite only has three more listed with powerless 2-11 being dubbed the finale...

i doubt they would have started vol. 3 before the strike.

Heroes wasn't going to do a break this time - they were running straight through and running Origins at the end. But they put Origins on the shelf because of the strike. So this wasn't their natural breaking time......

It's still time for the mid-season break. Even if there would only be two episodes in 2008, it's time to break.

Actually I think they were going to have a break, just a very abbreviated one (I think they were planning on 4 weeks?). However, that's neither here nor there since I'm pretty sure this strike is going to carry on for a while.

As for why they're treating it as a finale, well, luckily they're able to do it since they originally planned on ending v. 2 with episode 11 (or was it 12?). Tim Kring said he wanted to go back to the drawing board for v. 3 because of all of the fan complaints at the beginning of the season. Here's to hoping he sticks to that.

I think the strike will last just long enough to rob us of Volume 3 this winter and spring which really irks me.
