Smallville Season 9 sold 583,162 units, making $22,605,130 in revenue. HELL, Smallville Season 9 even beat Season 8! Season 8 sold 500,167 units with $15,897,993 in revenue.

Anyways, see how the other CW shows performed:

Supernatural: The Complete Fifth Season 440,531 units with $16,103,666 in revenue.

The Vampire Diaries: The Complete First Season 393,256 with $14,948,240 in revenue.

Smallville even destroyed Fox’s FRINGE and Fox’s HOUSE., Fringe & House had:

Fringe: The Complete Second Season 400,165 $14,693,666

House: The Complete Sixth Season 400,162 $14,732,085

We also beat Family Guy, Grey’s Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, Bones, The Office, in terms of revenue. DAMN. Is that awesome.

I am surprised that S9 outsold S8 by about 83k copies. You would think that the longer a series lasts the general trend would be downward for units sold as each season passes

^^Maybe S9 was liked by more people than S8 was, therefore, it sold more copies. I know I liked S9 better.

According to a comment on amazon.co.uk, the Region 2 version of The Complete Series will not contain the fancy packaging, Superboy/Aquaman pilots and other special features.
That's too bad. I probably won't buy it if this turns out to be true, at least not right now.

I wrote to WB Home Video to clarify: It's only going to contain the series on 60 discs. The US has special packaging, a newspaper from the series and 2 additional discs.

While S8 had a better story and the best writing (especially on the first half) imo, S9 had more variety and could be concidered as more entertaining. It had more in your face episodes like Rabid...with zombies/shotgun firing Ollie?!...or Ollie running from one jump scare/action to the next in Roulette...or stupid countryside inns with possession plots...episodes that didn't really make sense. Granted Absolute Justice was the #1 best thing Smallville ever produced, Salvation was an awesome season finale and Callum Blue's Zod was excellent.

I'd like to know how much S4 has sold. I suspect it's sold well (better compared to some other seasons?) even though the season was horrible and amongst the worst of the entire series.

Its awesome to see The Smallville season 9 be a blockbuster in the dvd market, I hoped it would perform well. I think a reason for the big numbers is becuase of the cover, it screams superman and its the coolest cover in terms of wow factor IMO, Idk why WB used an old image for the season 10 cover, a better cover is a possible impulse buy for a comic fan. idk thats my 2 cents. But i do hope the DVDs continue to make money, I hope WB sees the fans are still hungry and give us a TV movie or somthing!!!!

But guys! I was at NYCC and i got to see the Series Retrospective, IT WAS AMAZING! Heatwarming, funny, epic, all of the above! Def getting the set!! It was awesome seeing it on the bigscreen with a bunch of sv fans, we were cheering loud!!!!

I'll be royally disappointed if the retrospective, the final comic con panel & behind the scenes of 'Homecoming' isn't on the R2 speciel features. I can do without Aquaman pilot & Superboy, but the other features is a must for me. Simple as that.

Oh, and by the way- I've never seen such a poor job for a cover before for the 10th season. UGH!

I'm looking forward to next week too. I live in Canada but I'm ordering the Season 10 Blu-ray from amazon in the UK (since it's region free) and will be released a month earlier than I can buy it in Canada. I'll also be buying the complete series set once it's released in North America on November 29th. (Yeah, I'm that much of a fan)

Anyone else in North America getting a jump on the UK Season 10 Blu-ray set?

Can't recommend this enough I just got the blu ray today from the UK and looking at the finale it looks amazing, especially the bit in the fortress when he gets the suit and the CGI Superman saving the plane and floating in space looks way better and clearer than even the 720p HDTV rips. It also sounds unbelievable as it's in (d t s) so I say you ain't seen the Smallville finale till you've seen it on blu ray.

You don't get any extra features compared to the season DVDs. In fact, non-English speaking European buyers may need to stick with the DVDs, since the Blu-rays are region-free, so have fewer alternate language soundtrack/subtitle options (for example, the S10 region 2 DVD has a French-language soundtrack and Dutch and Norwegian subtitles, which the Blu-ray lacks).

The main differences relate to picture and sound quality - if you have the equipment to make use of them. Remember that the standard 576i PAL TV standard used in the UK is not only lower resolution than the 1080p high-def pictue on the Blu-Ray, but - because Smallville was shot at 24 frames-per-second, whilst British TV transmits at 25 frames-per-second (technically, it runs at 50Hz - cycles per second - but half a frame is tramsitted each cycle) - the DVD version is slightly sped-up (you may notice that people's voices sound slightly higher-pitched as a result). Itunes high-def runs at a greater resolution (720p) - though lower-res than Blu-Ray - but it works at the US TV refresh rate of 60Hz (30 frames per second). To show 24fps footage (like movies) on US TV, they use a technique called "3:2 pulldown" that can result in a "jerkiness" in some scenes. If you have a Blu-Ray player that can output at 24fps and a TV that can accept that as an input (you need to check the specs of both, but the capability is fairly common nowadays), then you should see picture quality and smoothness noticeably better than a DVD or iTunes download. However, given the costs involved, the improvement may not justify going for Blu-ray unless you (a) need a new TV and/or DVD player anyway, and (b) you want to move to Blu-Ray for all your future movie/TV boxset purchases.

Question: The homecoming featurette has been leaked on youtube, and before I watch it I wanted to know if the homecoming interviews were really just clips taken from the 90 minute retrospective. I'm wondering the same thing about the "Son becomes the father" featurette as well. If that's true than I want to wait to just watch the whole retrospective all together. But if they're an entire separate thing then I'd like to watch them now. Haha.

I bought my season 10 boxset at the weekend and I have to say, I'm disappointed in the packaging. Why have an envelope style box? Already it's annoying me because every time I put a dvd back in, it's opening out on the other side. I'm going to have to glue it or something to make the box more stable. I also like the cover but I would have thought for a Finale boxset, it could have been a lot more Supermanly.

I may not afford the Complete Series, but I'm definitely getting the 10th Season set. It's no surprise that the 9th season sold better than the 8th season because the 9th season had Superman mythos written all over it. The 8th season belonged to Chloe.

I think I'm gonna get hosed by WB....I'll be buying all three (BD, DVD, Complete series).

Got to. I have S1 through S9 on DVD, so I need to fill out that collection. I need the BD version for excellent picture quality for the finale. and I need the Complete Series set for that 100 minute feature.

Warner, you folks owe me stock options. Something.

Has anyone cancelled any of their pre-oders of either set?

Now that the release date is so close, I've been having second thoughts about ordering the Season 10 set with the Complete Series.

I'm afraid that if I cancel the pre-order of the S10 set now, it'll only go up in price in December if I buy it then, which is why I'd rather buy both at the same time...UGH! What to do!

Is anyone in the same boat, or is it just me? :\

Why do you need both? I'm just getting the Complete series set, even though I already have 1-9 (half of which I got two years ago when you could get each season for 10 bucks). If it were me I'd stick to the Complete set and cancel the other one. If you really want the season 10 box set you can always get it later and the price will drop down.

Just a reminder - the UK "Complete Series" set is not the a Region 2/PAL version of the Region 1/NTSC boxset. It is merely a boxset of the individual season 1-10 releases - it does not have discs 61 and 62 with the additional special features, the Daily Planet newspaper, etc. If you are in "R2 land", you will need to get a multi-region player and order the R1 set from the US to get the special features - or (like me) hope that Warner Brothers eventually brings out an R2 disc or online download of the special features for non-R1 DVD or Blu-Ray buyers.

62 discs? yikes. sometimes i wonder how people can get thru so many discs in a season set. especially when its some shows like law and order that have over 100 discs in the set. imagine getting to the last disc and have it be broken and you cant return it cause of the 30 day expiration date.

Tomorrow im going to Best Buy and hopefully, getting a season 10 BLU Ray set! and the Series collector set. Im getting both because of a few reasons, 1. IM a huge smallville nerd and love everything smallville. 2. I plan on using the collector set as a display and for show only, its massive and i love it. It will be a major part of the collection. I went to New York Comic Con and saw the Series Retrospective WHICH WAS AMAZINGLY AWESOME!!! So its a must for me at this point. 3. Im getting the blu ray set because i recently got a blu ray, and i want to get season 10 on pure HD so i can really embrace Smallville like its live and im watching it, idk im wierd. and like most of you i have all the individual sets so i want to complete that collection in some way. To be fair, he was only in two scenes out of the entire season. The Kents - dead, alive, AU, or whatever - played a much bigger role.

Same here. They had it set up at the front door as you walk in like an impluse buy. :) I didn't spend time to look around, just a glance as I got my copy then walked to the checkout. So I didn't really notice anything else other than S9 right there as well. I didn't feel like lingering since there was a sales guy standing right next to me. :\

I just looked it up. I would have prefered the one you got at Future Shop. I always thought that's what the t-shirt would have looked like. :) But the Best Buy one that I have isn't bad either, it makes it unique to that season of the show, not just overall Smallville. :)

No, to "mail you a brick" is an expression for the heavy weight of a box you recieved relative to it's size. I saw it in the store. It's a good foot and a half long(ish) by about 10 in(ish) high and 3 in(ish) deep. ;) I was thinking about picking it up to see how much it weighed, but I didn't. I've picked up other box sets before and they are a good damn heavy, ranging close to I guess 10-15 pounds. ;)

You could message the posters who recieved them by mail, it should have the weight on the shipping label. :)

15 to 20 of us were in walmart last night at midnightish looking for season 10. expecting them to put it out. they never brought it. finally a guy in a home made blur shirt asked and an associate told him they werent going to put it out until the morning. so we all grumble and leave. i go back this am to the same walmart around 8ish to find 6 to 10 different people waiting for an associate to find their smallville dvd's. he comes back to the registers to tell us, the dvd's arent here. walmart has lost my dvd business! especially when they advertise it online. i ended up getting the bonus tv shirt offers along with the bonus figure offer with complete series from best buy.

I was laughing at some of this, some of the things he was getting excited about were kind of funny. On a totally different note, I was watching Homecoming and in the Future Clois scene Lois tells Clark to check his trunk back at the farm for the Legion ring, guess that means the farm didn't sell at the finale. I just got my Series set. The box was smaller than I thought it would be, but definitely heavy. Upon opening, I was surprised that it was in yet another, sturdier box that definitely helped keep the box from getting damaged.

In case anyone wants to know, the set is about 11.5" X 3.75" X 8.25" (length, width, height). I haven't opened it yet as I want to line my shelf with bubble wrap so nothing gets damaged, but I can't wait to watch the new documentaries. :)

Keep in mind that all of season 10 was about Clark letting go of the past and the darkness and to look to the future. All of season 10. No of course not, the finale told us that letting go was wrong, too.

If they don't get their arc straight, why would they care about such a pesky detail as the ownership of the farm.

I think in Homecoming it was dealing with letting go your your guilt and blame as those can lead to darkness. Then in the final Clark thought he had to let go of everything together both the good and the bad, but his father told him he didn't have to let go of everything in order to move forward. Clark could still hold on to the life he had in Smallville and become the hero the world needs. The only thing he had to let go of is his anger, regrets and his guilt about the past.

Austin 3:16
12-02-2011, 10:06 AM
Maybe they did buy the farm back somehow.

I thought something about the address looked different. Then again, I thought maybe Oliver ordered it from Singapore to be shipped to SV.

The soundtracks were some of my favorite things about the series. When I was stressed, I would pop them in and feel better. I'm kind of hoping they will keep doing soundtracks over the years. Just because a show is gone doesn't mean the songs it inspires are finished. There are PLENTY of songs Smallville inspired and that came before which could still be used on multiple Smallville soundtracks. Just look at the pages of music that was used on the show. More and more seem to pop up everyday.

I actually got it a few days ago. And while I'm not a fan of extras anyway (I don't watch making ofs and such stuff) the Daily Planet newspaper would have been a nice gimmick.

But that 8-fold isn't worth another 100 bucks for me either; I paid 77.31 Euros including shipping which is roughly 104 US-Dollars.

The same as on the Region 2 DVDs for each season - the R2 complete series set is simply the individual season boxsets put in one box (just as they did a Seasons 1-9 boxset last year). If you already have the individual seasons, you don't get anything extra.

Smallville is now my fourth series where I have all seasons at least twice.

The first one was Babylon 5 where I bought the single seasons and later a huge Complete Series box (an actual aluminium box with an engraved B5 logo).

http://doena-soft.de/dvds/thumbnails/tvshow11.jpg

Then came Friends where I first had the Complete Series box from the UK and later bought the Complete Series box from the US because it had extended episodes.

http://doena-soft.de/dvds/thumbnails/tvshow08.jpg

The third one was Buffy the Vampire Slayer where I first bought a single season 1, then the Complete Series box from the UK and later a Complete Series box from the US just because.

http://doena-soft.de/dvds/thumbnails/tvshow05.jpg

So far this was my "most seasons for one show" record holder, having 15 seasons of a 7-season show.

Now I have 8 seasons of Smallville on DVD (1-8), 3 seasons on Blu-ray (8-10) --- okay I don't have S10 yet but it's on the way --- and the Complete Series box from the UK, making it 21 seasons of a 10-season show.

I haven't had a problem with getting the discs out of the holders. I'll admit, yes the packaging is a little tight, but it only took me around 5-10 seconds to slowly prise each disc out of its holder. I spent part of Monday evening removing each disc and checking to see there were no scratches, and so far so good. I even removed a few discs twice just to make sure that they wont scratch with being continually removed from the packaging.

I think a better option would have been to have plastic disc holders (just like on the individual box sets) glued to alternate pages of each book holder, they could have easialy have made space for 4 discs on each other page. I dont think this would've detracted from not being able to see the photo that was on each other page.

The only other thing I think they could've done better was to give the option to view the retrospective all the way through, I started watching it last night and after each season I was just returned to the menu screen - no real issue but would've been nicer to have had that option.

All in all, the best £134 I've spent in a long time.

I haven't opened mine yet, but I watched a couple of unboxings on YouTube. I agree on the plastic disc holders.

I also wish they could've shaped the box like the Fortress key. Maybe a big plastic keep case shaped like the key holding all the discs on swiveled plastic disc holders. Still, I think it'll be worth the price tag once I open it.

In response to the forummers wondering if the season 10 extras are included on the complete season collection - every extra that existed on the individual season 1 to 10 boxsets is included in the complete collection. In effect all the collection is, is all 10 boxsets discs given a new label - Kryptonian symbols. The discs are exactly the same as whats in peoples individual season sets.

I was in Target last night and saw the set for $249.99. I thought they were crazy.
A couple days ago when I was in Best Buy, I found one and it was raised to this price as well. I also took the chance to finally pick it up and that thing was HEAVY! I know the guy on here posted their shipping label said 10 pounds, but I swear it felt like a ton of bricks!

It defaults to the menu - and like season 9, it does not have the "clips montage" intro of the DVD menu (presumably because it also has to function as a "pop-up" menu on the Blu-Ray.

The british Blu-ray have a menu where you can choose "play all" or "episode selection".

I believe the US discs are identical since the DVD collection software "DVD Profiler" identifies the discs as the same as in the US Blu-ray set.

The Complete Collection is really cool. The figure looks great. As for the newspaper I just glanced over it but it includes pics of the League, Lex Lionel, other people, and some adds. As for the discs I tried moving a few, they are a little tough to get out but seem fine. The might have smuges from the sliding but I have all 10 Seasons on their own so it is not a problem.

Merry Christmas

Yeah, low on ink might be a better description. I'll have to upload some pics of it soon. My dad got it at Best Buy so it's definitely legit. Is there any way of swapping out the discs for another set? All I know is they are nowhere near as clear as the previous season disc art in my sets.

I just ordered mine from Amazon yesterday since it was on sale (and it got shipped from a warehouse close by so it will be delivered today), but I hope my set doesn't look like that. Maybe they opted for a matte-like finish vs. smooth on later sets that got pressed?

On a side note, it's interesting how Amazon lowered the price to $14.99. It was just $20.99 yesterday when I ordered, although I now see that there is a longer wait time for shipping. Weird :\

Update: My set just arrived. Mine are also textured, alexisfan07, so it can't be a printing/pressing error. The discs look absolutely fine to me. I'm sure they'll play fine, too.

i noticed on the picture link you provided the dvds were in the uk ( your welcome to correct me if im wrong) but i think the clarity issue comes from different region dvd/bluray dvd's. your dvds are marked north american which is a different region from the picture link you provided. if you would return your dvd's you may get the same "matte blurry finish" because the "glossy finish" is only available on foreign dvd sets.

What, exactly, does the $200+ Complete Series set have that the (individual seasons) DVD/Blu Ray sets lack?

I'm not asking about the Daily Planet edition or the action figure, I'm talking documentries. I know the S10 DVd and Blu Ray editions have two--the 'Homecoming' retrospective, and the 'Fathers and Sons' one.

Just wondering what I'm missing, documentry-wise, if I don't pick up this expensive edition (I have every season in the individual box sets).

The Aquaman pilot I have; it was included years ago in the first release of one of the early seasons.
I'm thinking you mean 200th episode feature, (not 100), as the 100th (if memory serves) was the one in the 5th season in which Johnathan died. The 200th was S10's "Homecoming", and the S10 boxset did include that.
Secret Oirgins I have. That's a full-length documentry, and is available at Best Buy for about $15.

Welcome to the end...of the beginning.

Charting the course of Clark's journey for so many seasons with so many amazing writers, cast and crew has been a tremendous honor for all of us behind the scenes here at Smallville. As we sat down at the writers' table for the final season, we knew it would be the most exciting year yet, filled with so many emotions. Finally ready to take Clark out of the shadows and into the light, we had no idea of how much was ahead that we didn't even anticipate.

From the very first moments at last year's Comic-Con in San Diego when all of the show's beloved fans crammed into the largest room to get a glimpse of our final teaser reel, and Tom and the rest of our stars joined us on stage, it was clear from their reaction that this would be an epic, history-making year in evolving the mythos of Smallville into that of Superman. We pushed the limits of everyone to bring you these final 22 episodes, packed with more iconic moments than arguably any season yet: Jonathan and Martha. Lois knowing Clark's secret. Clark in a red S-Shield. Brainiac. Zod. Marriages. Glasses. Granny Goodness. Glorious Godfrey. Desaad. Isis. Suicide Squad. Legion Rings. Hawkman. Supergirl. Jor-El and Lara. Sam, Ella and Lucy Lane. Booster Gold. Earth 2. Darkseid. Plummeting planes. Tess with a twist. Green Arrow and Chloe. Lionel. Lex. The Suit...Flying.

And there's actually more. We hope you enjoy the end of this ride as much as we did. Thank you for 10 amazing seasons!

Ahh now I understand :)

Yes it bothered me because as you said: The show is about Clark's journey to becoming Superman, and the last thing I wanted to see was GA's picture. The big picture of all them walking away from the explosion is awesome- but they shouldn't have been a picture of GA alone.

Genny

I know, I love the picture they included from Justice but the alone pic of GA... it kind of implied that that season was about Green Arrow, and it's the only season that doesn't have Clark on the back. WTH.

Okay, random question, but is anyone else besides me annoyed that Oliver is on the back of the inside of the case for season 6 and not Clark? Clark has been on every case but season 6, why? It bugs me. Why Green Arrow when the show is about how Clark Kent became Superman?

This is not Green Arrow...it's Clark in the GA costume...the pic is from HYDRO where Clark wore the costume so they can throw Lois off from discovering Oliver is the GA....;)
