That's right. At least, he's trying out for it anyways.
Straight from Anime News Network:
During his November 11 panel at Pacific Media Expo, Jason Kyson Lee (Heroes' Ando) said that he is trying out for the role of Yamcha in 20th Century Fox's live-action adaptation of Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga. He says that the movie is planned for a 2010 release and that he approved of the script so far. He also said that he was a childhood fan of manga such as Dragon Ball and Takehiko Inoue's Slam Dunk -- of which he had read the entire run.
What does everyone think? Personally I don't know that I could see him fitting the Yamcha personality, but at least we're getting asians playing the part of Japanese characters. I'm still seeing a lot of rumours how how they want James Marsters to be Piccolo, but right now the only real truth is this about Ando as Yamcha.

Not (yet) a fan of DBZ, but if this works out, it would be awesome.

I like the idea of him being Yamcha, but mainly because I believe the cast should majorly be Japanese and it seems like he'll be the only one.

Not true. They just got Jamie Chung to play Chi-Chi. So we'll have at least two asians amongst the honky white actors. :p James Masters it really doesn't matter though because he's going to be painted green.

Jamie Chung is of Korean descent, not Japanese. I do agree that doesn't matter too much about James Marsters though.

I know that. Lee is also Korean so so far we're not getting any Japanese actors.

Eh, I'm fine with British guys playine americans and vice versa, don't see what the problem would be with those of Korean descent playing japanese characters.

It looks like he didn't get the job in the end. He had auditioned for it along side Joon Park (Speed Racer film), but lost out. However, the Eriko Tamura got the part of Mai. I don't remember Mai, but at least we've got one Heroes actor in the film. I looked her up and she does Yaeko. Is that Hiro's sister?

Yaeko was the princess, Takezo Kensei's love of legend, and Adam and Hiro's love interest of vol 2.
So far one Heros actor. That's good.
And if the picoolo rumours are true, a smallville one too.

Ah yes, thank you. I knew I should have recognized her, but season 2 is so forgetable in comparison to the first season.
It's not a rumour, it's true. They've already started filming in Mexico.

When I used to watch DB and DBZ Yamcha was always my favorite character. I would love is JKL played my favorite character because JKL plays my favorite male character on Heroes.

I personally do not have high hopes for this movie at all. I love DBZ and it is a personal favorite of mine because it's one of the very first animes I had ever seen.
I don't expect much from it but I will go to see it and hope I enjoy it.
I liked Yamacha alot better in Dragonball then I did in Dragonball Z.
I always thought Tom Welling would be a good Goku........So far I kinda like the cast I guess.

Guys the film isn't Dragonball Z,it's titled Dragonball and is set during the Demon Piccolo Saga. I've been a Dragonball fan since 1996 at first I wasn't crazy about the direction of the film. But i've accepted it now and will see it in theaters, think about it if they wanted it exactly like the anime. Then why make it at all when fans can see it on dvd whenever they want.
If the film was exactly like the anime in character design, storyline, etc. We would be going: "ok this will happen next followed by Goku doing that, and Piccolo will counter that..." It would be like the 1998 psycho remake where we knew scene for scene what would happen.
My point is those that are haters of this project, you're free to not see it if you want. But don't make final judgement before the film has come out.Does anyone know if Jason Kyson Lee got the role or not?
