It seems like the writers are trying so hard to keep Clark from becoming Superman that he is starting to lose his moral compass and becoming less likable. He doesn't even have a secret ID any more because EVERYBODY knows he's Kryptonian

Where's Superman?
Well, I think you are watching a totally different show. This show is not about Superman. It's about this guy called Clark Kent who likes to stay in a farm, milk cows and spend his life admiring the beauty of Lana.

The writers have strayed from the mythos that made smallville a success. They need to move on with the story and bring back the intensity of Lex. and Clark. To me things went down hill after Jonathan died.

Jonathon is rolling over in his grave. Clark turned that farm into a flophouse

Not only is CK becoming less likable, but Lex is fighting to save humanity which makes him a pretty good guy.
It's a good thing Lex wants to help us mortals cuz apparently Superman is dead in the womb

There is no Superman. Stop thinking about Superman while watching Smallville. Try to understand that the characters on the show don't know what you know. Now you all know how God feels don't you.

I'll agree with that, but Clark knows he is the savior of humanity because Jor-El told him.Clark also knows that he should be able to fly cuz all the other Kryptonians can

I can think about SUperman while watching Smallville, because Superman is the stated end of the show. However, when things on Smallville aren't even remotely close to being anywhere near a path that could lead to Superman, I think it's a legitimate complaint to point that out.

Where's Superman?
Well, I think you are watching a totally different show. This show is not about Superman. It all depends on your point of view of what is Superman. The whole "mythos" bit is twisted b/c it differs by who you are reading. In any case, IMO, not having the suit adds a little more realism to the story. :)

Lex Luthor: Man of Steel, wasn't so much Lex was the good guy, and Superman the bad. It was more, how Lex sees himself. Lex think's he's the savior of humanity, and the only one that understands Superman is an alien tyrant that needs to be destroyed. Lex thinks he is the only one who can see some big picture, but in reality, he's just a psychotic dictator.

Jor-El: "Son, you can never leave this Fortress of Solitude because you are a flaming d-bag."
Clark tries to superspeed away.
Clark: "Daddy! I no go fast no more!"
Jor-El: "I took away your powers. Here's some Play-Doh. Don't eat it."
Clark: "Yay! Play-Doh!"

isn't that what CK is turning into? Saving only the people he choses. Everyone keeps telling him that the world needs him yet he stays on the farm protecting his little circle of friends

Not quite. Lex thinks Clark is just lulling us into a flase sense of security, until one day, BAM, he takes over the world, and makes us all his slaves. Lex thinks no alien should be showing us, or telling us how to live. That's for us humans to decide, and by us humans, he means himself, because everyone else is just too stupid to do it.

Smallville will make for some interesting Lois/Clark conversations that will never be heard.
Lois: Where were you, boyscott, when Lana was kicking me through a window? Somewhere making up an excuse for her, while playing kick the can.

He is starting to realize he is meant for more than farmer/local saviour. He is also starting to realize that embracing his Kryptonian destiny doesn't mean stripping himself of his greatest power(compasion). His final trial will be triumphing over his fear of being SUPER. As of now he can't embrace the fact that he is meant to save humanity from themselves as well as the occasional alien/robot/others? He needs to realize Smallville isn't the whole world. Then he will be SUPERMAN. That obviously also means the end of Smalville.

As much as I hate to say it, I think they're going to have to pull a little bit of the "amnesia" gag somewhere in the plot later on. Because Clark will eventually start assuming two identities as glasses-and-suit-donning human Clark Kent and proud-S-emblazened-tights Kryptonian Superman. And he'll be working at the Daily Planet, in Metropolis, where he'll be in contact with both Lois and Lex, who have both seen him sans suit and glasses for four and seven seasons now, respectfully. If they see Superman flying around with the exact same face as they've seen for as long as they have, they're not gonna be fooled by the glasses. Even further, Lex is already suspicious up the wazoo of Clark's true nature. Dual identities isn't even going to begin to scratch the surface at convincing him.
Either they'll have some incident that'll wipe their memories of most of the past experiences of Clark, or they'll go the comic book route with this, and Clark will travel the world and try to help out in places like India and East Asia for a few years, before finally coming back and settling in Metropolis. By then they may have forgotten a little about him, and him coming back with a whole new wardrobe and spectacles could actually pass off as believable.
Though the instant Lex saw Superman, he'd immediately know it was Clark. I wonder how they'll work this out... I recall one of the creators quoting that by the time they reach the Daily Planet setting, it'll all be pretty much the familiar scene we know.

I think this fan video I edited makes it pretty clear that the story of young Clark Kent before he becomes Superman is now complete, and should be over. It’s time to either have Clark become Superman or end the show….. For legal reasons, Al & Miles can’t show Clark put on the costume. But at the same time, they don’t want to end the show because that would mean the end of their job…. So they are pointlessly dragging out the story of young Clark. There is clearly nothing interesting left to do with him, expect turn him into Superman.
Still to give credit where credit is due, the side stories (Kara, Green Arrow, the JLA, Martian Manhunter) have been really great.

Clark's journey is nowhere near complete. In fact, it's further off track than when the show started. In order to drag things out this long, they had to push his whole development so far off track, even Superman (the real Superman) couldn't put it back on.

He is too busy looking at the pink princess. Smallville must be an alternate universe. No way this idiot can be Superman! The Lana loving has destoyed him.

I was also going to say that this Smallville can just be seen as an alterverse. There have been lots of them right? Same ol' supes (sort of) different story.
As for Lex and Lois knowing too much about Clark... well there is always the kiss of forgetfulness  one for Lex and one for Lois...

I'm really hoping the show ends on a good note, and that Al, Miles, and the writing team come up with a workable plan for the "no glasses" situation, that doesn't involve memory loss!

He'll magically show in in the episode "Hero." It will usher in the last few episodes of the series before February.
Although I don't think this Clark would ever become Superman (I sure as hell don't want him to), he'll be lightswitched into the tights before this season is over.
This is it, folks.

This is it, folks. I doubt that. I think the writers have worked too hard on the series, to let it end like this. A full 22-episode eighth season would be the ideal wrap-up, but I'd be happy with a direct-to-DVD movie as well.

The writers haven't worked hard at all, since around the second and third seasons. We've gotten recycled stories, very little if any growth in the characters, and moral degradation of people.
The biggest growth in a character has come from one of the support cast (Chloe). The show has become a joke, and charicature of what it could have been.
