FLASHBACK: Zor-El captured Kara in a Crystal? HUH?

What was that about? Right when Zor-El held up that crytal to Kara in the flashback (before she died on that table), did Zor-El capture Kara? WHAT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT?

His crystal erased or suppressed memories. The reason she didn't know any of this stuff before the kryptonite-induced flashback was because the crystal erased (or at least suppressed) her memory of the events.
