House of El Crystals as Plot Device

Is it just me or did they create new convenient plot device with the little crystals that Clark and Kara possess? If Zor-El used it to erase Kara's memories can Clark and Kara use their crystals to erase the memories of people who might spot them doing something?

actually he had it when the last phantom attacked him it fell to the ground and then the phantom took some dna and became bizzaro so clark's S crystal could still be around somewhere.

Considering the variety of things that Clark's did I'm sure it does much more than show a picture.

However, with Al/Miles it might just never be brought up again because it served its purpose.

You're forgetting that Jor-El and Zor-El seemed to be very scientifically savy. They likely programmed the crystals to do the specific things we've seen them do; Clark's to contain the phantoms (and as an aside revive the fortress, although that was probably just an after effect from being able to utilized the energy of the trapped souls), Zor-El likely programmed Kara's to display Kal-El so she could find him, and he likely programmed his own to erase memories and/or other stuff. My guess is that they are the equivalent of some kind of device that you can program to do certain things given the knowledge and know how, rather than just crystals that do everything. Kind of like the crystal is the computer and the thing it does is software that's been programmed into it.

Who knows. Maybe the FOS has a program that explains how to use it in such a way.
