Heroes doesn't seem to use a lot of outside songs/music (popular or otherwise), outside of what they produce themselves, probably because it costs $$$.

Journeyman, on the other hand, which airs right after Heroes, uses songs all the time, which I find surprising. Granted a lot of the time the songs are older ones (70's/80's) so the rights are probably cheaper to get, but still it's definitely not free. I applaud Journeyman for that.
