He has superpowers. Does he even need to use the tractor??

I think it's going back to when his dad died. It's something the Johnathan was always doing, and now he is too just like him. (Without powers)

And he stopped playing with his telescope lol

the tractor is an antique. It needs fixing all the time..... I think Clark has moved on to playing with... bigger things than just his telescope because now that Lana lives at the house and he's STILL not getting any...

Lex gave Jonathan a check after the EPA invaded the farm. They were going to buy a new tractor with it, but Jonathan gave it back. It makes sense it's still breaking down.

I wish they would somehow work more of the farm chores that Clark has to do into the show. It's cool that they have him working on the tractor. BTW, you even have to work on new tractors. We have a JD 5400 that has less than 4000 hours on it, and it seems like every so often something has to be adjusted on it.

It's just the fact that since Clark has superpowers, he probabaly doesn't even use the tractor.

I agree about the farm work. If he's not fixing the tractor, he's putting those huge poles in the ground to make a fence or something. How many fences does the farm need.

Clark could go Kingdom Come and strap the plow to his back and plow the field.

I was thinking the same thing when I was watching the episode. But, whether its always broke doesn't so much matter to me. Like someone else said, I think him working on it reminds him of his father. And I don't know about everyone else, but to me Clark has shown a lot of Jonathan's qualities this season. Maybe his time of reflection while he is working on the tractor has brought him back to his roots in more ways than one.

I know, he's been fixing that damn tractor for 3 weeks now. Maybe he should just run and steal a tractor.

Like he did with the syrup.

Lana's living with him, but she's not sleeping with him. So he spends a lot of time 'fixing the tractor'.

His hands are stronger than any wrench or ratchet. Why does he use tools to work on that tractor, and why does he fix a tractor he does not need to use?

LexLuv180

I like he's like Samantha in Bewitched, prefers doing things the human way for the most part.

DarkChilde

His hands cannot get into all those spots. Sometimes you need a socket because of the location of the nut or bolt.

doesn't matter, that tractor is a piece of crap

Coyote

I think it's a hobby that relaxes him. Also it's something that he and Jonathan used to do together, so he probably has a sentimental attachment to working on the old tractor.

The tools could grip better than his hands. Sure he's strong, but his hands can still slip on things like nuts and screws that a ratchet would provide much better grip for.

yea he probably likes doing things the human way.

Also if they did not have him work on that piece of crap at least 5 times a season then it would not be SV

Well If anyone knows old tractors need constant maintenance. Trust me I've got an old Ford 195? model 9N...and it seems everytime I use it for whatever..I'm always having to repair some minor problem.

For the reason why he works with tools....My guess is he's keeping up appearances..You never know who could be watching.

I think it's partly about keeping up appearances, but also because the tools were made for doing these tasks. Using his bare hands may be a bit of overkill and who knows, he may accidentally rip a bolt off right at the head. At least with a tool, all he has to do is exert a fraction of his strength.

He's ALWAYS fixing that tractor.

What the hell is wrong with that tractor? Johnathan has been trying to fix it since season 2 and Clark fixes it every day! Maybe it's the same truck that Clark threw away in "Perry"

Yeah, lets have him ride on the tractor every once in a while. I know a lot of time passes (sometimes) between episodes but... c'mon.

Maybe those cows are tough on the fences. Krypto-freak cows perhaps?

I bet he puts in those fence poles when he is frustrated. The fence he is building now is very close to the house. Bet we never see a shot where it is built. Kent land should have lots of fence posts-better than throwing tractors & cows or burning down the barn. Or making those patterns in corn(wheat) fields that are in England.

Like he did with the syrup. He bought the syrup. We've seen Clark superspeed into/out of places and bought things in the past (leaving the money with the cashier). Seesh.

Having superpowers wouldn't necassarily make it easier to fix a tractor. Fixing machinery isn't about brute force. He'd just wind up breaking it.

Why did you change the title of my thread? I was never talking about tools.

There were two threads, and BOTH were about Clark working on the tractor.
Similar or duplicate threads are sometimes combined.

There are some places on a tractor where his hands are too big to fit. And to keep from breaking it, he needs a narrow object, like a wrench, to fit in those spaces.

10-26-2007, 07:18 PM
Ha ha ha, this thread is so funny. I have always thought that about Clark putting in fence poles all the time - I did wonder how much fencing do they need?

I kind of explained away the fence building in the episode as the film crew may have taken it away to create space for the shoot.

And yes I do wonder about that damn tractor, does it even work? It would be good to see him using it once in a while, I am sooo tired of watching him fix the damn thing. There must be other chores they can have Clark do?

Mello Penelo
10-26-2007, 07:21 PM
Yeah, I don't think we've seen the tractor working since Martha ran from the bees way back in S1.

He actually takes it apart and puts it back together, it helps him think.

He should take it apart and put it back together somewhere else. Like in the kitchen.

My dad watches The Andy Griffith Show and one of the guys did that. He took apart the police car, then put it back together in the police station.

That's exactly what I thought, he has big hands and there must be places where he just can't reach.

I haven't realized untill now that Clark's been spending a lot of time fixing that truck this season, for someone who can superspeed...

And I guess he needs that truck to be in working condition to keep appearances. Whenever he sees someone passing by the farm he can hop into it and drive around a bit, so that people would think he's actually working.

adromidon
10-27-2007, 02:48 PM
well as mentioned he may take his time because it relaxes him. Why superspeed if he does not have to he can do that and think of Pa Kent

Oh okay. I thought if two threads were combined, it had the "Moved' symbol or something. My mistake. :)

yeah as an Board Admin of a once active but now dead as anything board merging threads is a useful trick to reduce Load on the Databases ;)
