View Full Version : Didn't like Kristen Bell's character

She did okay, nothing bad, nothing spectacular. But the only thing I felt she brought to the episode was the mystery of who her dad is. The character could've been played by literally anyone and would've seemed exactly the same, IMO. Great episode, but the much talked about Ms. Bell is seeming a little overrated at this point.

She's so useless, I just want her to die. Better yet, let Sylar eats her freaking brain! YUM, TASTY!!

She hasn't done anything substantial yet. Give it a few more episodes. ;)

I thought it was surprising she had a power (eventhough I
should've seen it coming because everyone and thier sister
on this show has a power. Heck, I was surprised the Japanese
lab guy didn't start shooting lasers out of his freaking eyes! LOL!),
but other then that, I think we have a Claire Clone on our hands.
(EEK!!)
I mean, the way she was whining at her Daddy and all.

So who do you think her Daddy is? My guess is Bob...

Her character is psychotic! She killed that Irish mobster guy in a most horrible way I might add and tried to act like it wasn't a big deal! I want Sylar to kill her just so Elle can see what a real big bad looks like.

YES...PLEASE DO IT SYLAR!!! And i think EVERYBODY thought or thinks at one point that her dad is Bob but i just don't think it's that obvious (personally).
^^I agree, I thought so at first but it does seem WAY too obvious.
As for the character, I think we just have to give it time to grow, Kristen Bell passed up Lost for this role so she obviously had to see something in it past what we saw tonight. And it usually takes a series of several episodes to build the character depth that we want to see on the show. I don't think they've even scratched the surface with this one.

wow. how dramatic. i think we should give kb's character elle at least more than 5 minutes of screen time before we decide. but the talks of her ability did seem over rated and it wasn't a spectacular start for her, but i could blame that on the episode. the best part of this episode was the parkman plot.

the parkman and nathan plot were soooo GOOD. LUV IT! And yea, SYLAR! PLEASE KILL THAT HORRIBLE CREATURE! Kill her and I'll be happy ^^

Elle was my favorite part of the episode. I love her character. As I said, she's like bitter honey. She seems so sweet and naive but she can whoop your ass if she needs to.

 I think Elle could take care of Sylar. She's been with the Company. She knows backrounds on all these people.

I am sure Kristin Bell is a fine person.
That said, I do not like her acting, when she was on Veronica Mars, even then (IMO) she acted like her stuff don't stink :p
Last night, she did the same, she has an attitude that I just can't get behind.
I watched a few episodes of VM, but I just couldn't stay with it.
One actor I would love to see on Heroes is John de Lancie "Q" from Star Trek.
He would have made an AWESOME Bob.
I met John de Lancie at ComicCon - such a cool dude. Def would be a good actor for the show.
As for Bell, I was never into VM so I can't compare from last night to that show - but I hope they build up the character. I'm not digging the character all the way - I find her interesting because, like others have said, I want to know her mission and who her daddy is. The way she killed that dude and was crying to daddy for taking her off the job - I think the writers WANT us to not like her.

Prolly cause she thought Lost was starting to suck like everyone else seems to think it sucks...lol.

I'm just glad she pulled herself away from the nether reaches of television known as The CW and the bottom of the bottomless pit known as Gossip Girl.

I don't like her character (so far). It's like she stayed in Veronica Mars character (only with powers). She delivered her lines the same way, she acted the same way, etc. I guess it is a combination of writing/directing/acting, but I was really hoping to see something different.
Maybe her character will get better as the season progresses ( at least I hope so. I have been hoping for Nikki's character to become interesting since season 1, and I still think that her storylines are completely boring).

I agree with you. Niki is a horribly-written character.
But I think the writers typecast KB into Elle directly from Veronica. I've seen her in many movies, like Fifty Pills, Spartan and Gracie's Choice. There's much more to Kristen Bell than just Veronica.

Sylar & Elle will team up eventually. So,I think we are going to be stuck with her for a while.Who knows may be Sylar will give her some personality ;)

I concur. There is much more to KB than VM. I f you haven't seen at least another work of KB's how could you judge. She acts as her characters are written...I think she's delightful. I'm positive most with flip their opinions once they give her an actual chance. Rather than making quick decisions on 5 minutes (not even that really) of screen time. I think her portrayal of the character Elle is what Kring likes about her and so far with a great show, I think he has done pretty damn well.

Elle is nothing like Veronica.
If you were a fan of Veronica Mars you would see. I mean Veronica is not nearly as blunt nor as childish nor as cruel.

How can an actress act like "their stuff doesn't stink?" They're acting. And she has been to THREE Comic Cons, far more than any other TV shows stars, I am sure.

Gimme a break, most of the people on this board judge entire episodes on 30 second previews, it seems, and lots of times just on descriptions of episodes. I see nothing wrong with saying her character was just bad so far. They literally could've taken any actress and given the part to them, even a newcomer, KB just brought absolutely nothing to the part and the character itself was stale. Sure, it might change, but right now the character sucks.

I disagree. I like the character. She's childish yet a badass.
I thought she was cute, haven't seen veronica mars so I don't know why everyone is hating on her so much

But it gets a good actress (Kristen Bell) off a terrible show (Gossip Girl).

Opinions will differ. For the small amount of screen time, I found the character to be a satisfying villain...a spoiled brat with too much money, looks and power. She's like Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan as a Supervillain.

I thought she was cool! I loved the way she admitted killing that guy as if it was just a small thing like she'd stayed out late after curfew or something.

Kristen Bell is just wrong for the part, imo. Bad casting. (Go home Nancy Drew. You're not scary. ) Her acting so far has been just plain bad...it was like she wasn't even trying.
She played a really great knock-off of Buffy/Sarah Michelle Gellar on Veronica Mars, but she doesn't seem to be able to pull off "villain" very well...or "grown-up" for that matter.
Another thing, the Elle character reminds me a lot of the blond villain from Supernatural's first season, Meg Masters (now THERE was a great villain-actress). Both are/were following their evil daddy's orders, lol. So there's nothing too original or clever about the character so far, and Bell's sub-par acting certainly didn't help matters.
