Yeah I just think its funny that Clark talks about Kara using her powers and yet he sweeps into a very crowded Daily Planet (which creates a wind gust) and thinks nothing of it LOL!!
Also was I the only one who caught the gay guy in the episode? When Jimmy was giving the tickets to his coworker the guy was like "This will score huge points with the boyfriend :D"

yes!!!
I'm so glad someone else heard that!!! :)
The whole "this will score huge with my boyfriend" And i love how he used the "ring that bell" line on Jimmy...just like Jimmy did with Clark. It was hysterical!

Does it even matter that the person's gay? Who cares. It's nice to see that jimmy would be nice like that.

It doesn't matter...I just thought it was cute how it was thrown in there...and the writers didn't go for the "typical" response.

Yeah it doesn't bother me either but in a way it is out of the ordinary and I thought it was kind of neat that it was thrown in there xD

I sincerely hope that scene was used purely for comic effect...and, to quote Forrest Gump, "That's all I've got to say about that".

I actually think that was the point. They are treading on dangerous ground, making Jimmy racist against meteor freaks, saying they should all be rounded up and put in Belle Reve, etc. I think they put this scene in the episode to show us that he's not normally a bigot.

maybe since the gay guy used ring the bell on jimmy, maybe jimmy wants to get gay on clark cuz he said the same thing :rotfl:
although i was pleasently surprised they brought that line back as it was one of my favorites from last season

I think Jimmy's reaction to the line is what was most important about the scene. He's obviously in a very different place right now than he was when he said it to Clark.

Jimmy walks away from gay guy singing: "You can ring my be-eeeeeee-elllllll, ring my bell!"

I love the 'ring that bell' line especially as it was ad-libbed by AA the first time around :D So I think them using it again was bit of an in joke.

ya clark is getting a bit too cocky with his powers. he acts like since now everyone he cares about knows he has powers he can use them whenever.
ya i noticed they had a gay guy on the show. i think its cool they actually braught a gay character in and didnt make it seem corny. cause sometimes they stereotype people and it comes off really judgemental and stuff.

When the guy said his boyfriend would love the tickets, I'm surprised Jimmy didn't say, "You *****," then slap him and prissy walk away.

Me too. I said this earlier, but I'll repeat. I kind of think it was Al and Miles way of saying, "See? Jimmy doesn't hate real minorities. He only hates meteor freaks."
They're kind of walking a fine line, making him 'racist' against the meteor infected.

AA revealed it in an interview:
I have to admit that I’ve stolen one of your Jimmy lines in the office here. About a month back at the end of an episode, Jimmy goes up to Clark and puts out a fist saying, “Ring that bell!” Ever since, I can’t stop doing it to [Wizard Price Guide Assistant David Paggi].
ASHMORE: [Laughs] That’s a funny story because we were just doing a rehearsal and running through lines, and that wasn’t in the script. I just put my fist out and said it. I thought, “That’s so stupid. I don’t know where that came from.” And Tom [Welling] started laughing and said, “God! You have to keep that in! That’s perfect. It’s so Jimmy.” [Laughs] I thought it was way over the top, but I’m glad Tom wanted to keep it because when I watched it back I knew it fit the character well. So keep saying that. Spread it around, and people can catch on.

I'm not homophobic or anything, but the producers need to leave that gay/lesbian crap out of the writing... seriously. It's very unnecessary.
(i.e., Athena's confrontation with Lois Lane in Season 6's "Combat" episode and Jimmy's co-worker's comment in "Cure")

Ok, what is your problem? Are you the censorship committee? Why are you always posting about the offensiveness of the show or how the actors should be responsible for the lines they say? I don't get it. What are you angry about? What's so wrong with putting a gay character on television, especially when they're not being portrayed in a stereotypical way?

I have to agree with uhhuhhhim on this one. Having a male character refer to his boyfriend really is no different than having a male character refer to a girlfriend, or a female to a boyfriend. Saying that they need to keep gay characters off Smallville is no different than saying they need to keep Jewish, black, or Asian characters off the show.

You can't just preface a racist statement with "I'm not racist," and make it okay.

Dude, there's been gay subtext in this show since the first episode. Ever see some of the looks Clark and Lex give each other? A great example is in Red, when Red K Clark shows up to talk to Lex.

that's cool if that is your opinion but i really don't see that at all...men can be close friends without that meaning they wanna jump each other. As a big Star Trek fan people use to say the same thing about Kirk and Spock which i've always found to be completely off base.
as for the Jimmy thing i thought the whole ring the bell scene was funny. there are a lot of gay people out there, so i don't see an issue with portraying them once in a blue moon (or more) which is about how often outwardly gay characters have appeared on SV.

Honestly I was hoping no one would comment on this. It means more when a show can get away with having a throw-away reference to a guy having a boyfriend without anyone really caring then if everyone is like "hell yeah!" about it.

I thought he said boyfriend. I like the fact Smallville didn't use the typical response as well it was quite cool. It shouldn't be a big deal and its not but it isn't something you hear everyday and its good Smallville are just adding it into everyday conversation.

I heard the line and didn't think anything of it other than I liked that they were showing that homosexuality is not something foreign to the people of Metropolis and by extension Smallville.

I agree with you. It shouldn't have been an issue, but what I don't understand is why the original poster is always talking about the "offensiveness" that's in each Smallville episode every week. There is nothing offensive about a man having a boyfriend and I'm trying to understand where all of this anger, from the original poster, is coming from.
Of course, I don't see why anyone would constantly point out things like this NOW since we've had: Tina Greer, the gay football player Chloe unintentionally outed in Truth, plus the kiss between Lana and Abby in Facade. What about all of that, Kalerado? (original poster)
As for the gay subtext that some people may not catch, the producers have acknowledged this in interviews. A good example of it would be the Clex scene in Tempest where Lex ties Clark's tie for him. Am I right? :D I have no problem with this, it's a show for everyone, I just don't understand why this poster is ALWAYS commenting on the "offensive" comments of the characters every week. I'm about to sick Tori Amos on his ass ;)
