Unfortunately, due to a much improved TM, SV fell to 2nd in total viewers in the list of CW's primetime programs for 10/8-10/14.

1. America's Next Top Model 5.37 million viewers
2. Smallville 4.82
3. Friday Night SmackDown 4.53
4. Beauty and the Geek 3.21
5. Supernatural 3.16
6. The Game 2.86
7. Gossip Girl 2.8
8. Reaper 2.65
9. Everybody Hates Chris 2.6
10. Girlfriends 2.53
11. Aliens in America 2.11
12. ANTM (R) 1.7
13. Life Is Wild 1.06
14. CW Now 0.67
15. Online Nation 0.58

"Fierce" wasn't that well received, but, from what I've seen, the CW has been promoting "Cure" a lot better than "Fierce," and w/ Dean Cain guesting, SV has received some added publicity this week (from places like TV Guide and Zap2It), so I'm expecting this week to increase from last week. I'm predicting somewhere between 4.85 million viewers - 5.

Also you are forgetting about adding DVR. So it would be more than 5 million viewers.

Yes, those are just the Live + Same Day Final numbers. Live + 7 haven't been released for last week yet. I don't think they ever released the actual viewership totals for most shows from premiere week even. Who knows if we'll ever get to see them?

how can you say it wasn't that well received when it beat the previous weeks episode that probably had more promoting for supergirl than anything over the summer? also it was step for step for wither's ratings last year (the 3rd episode)

i agree with you that cure will probably do better as it has gotten more publicity with this episdoe

Overnight Ratings are in http://www.mediaweek.com/mw/newsletters/proginsider/index.jsp

Smallville (3.4/ 5)

The more detailed fast national ratings come out at 12 ET.

So the ratings looks to be the same as last week at this point. We'll see if the final rating is the same. Interesting to note that FOX had a baseball playoff game on last night between the Red Sox and the Indians so that is competition that Smallville didn't have last week, since the game was on TBS last week.

Cure did really well!

MediaWeek.com

CW’s Smallville (Viewers: #5, 5.06 million; A18-49: #5, 2.0/ 6).

Looks like Smallville is recovering from last year's horrendous ratings fest.

I understand people didnt like this episode, but it still did better in the ratings than Kara. this forum is so negative it is sickening. enjoy the show for what it is. i understand what you are saying, but promise was one of my favorite episodes, yet probably one of the most hated on this site

getting back on topic, nice to see smallville over 5 mill. with 5.06 and not the final ratings, maybe it can eclipse Justice for the highest in the last 2 years

I am actually an Indians fan, and to me the ratings probably didnt flucuate much for the game. to me the game doesnt start until 8 30, and by that time, no matter how much i like the indians, i want to see what happened in the end of smallville. also i can flip back to the game. needless to say i shouldnt of even bothered to watch the rest of the game. anyways, i thik are you smarter than a 5th grader would take more viewers away than a playoff baseball game, (it is sad, baseball is supreme)

....promise was one of my favorite episodes... and whole season six was so perfect i can't understand what happened with ratings. I am getting a feeling people are more interested in mitology than SV drama. In my opinion SV wouldn't be SV without triangels, secrets... in they want only speccial affects they should watch Heroes

Yeah! I'm thrilled with "Cure's" 5.06 mil. The Season 6, 4th epi "Arrow"- 4.71mil.

"Cure" actually beat out all of S6 episodes except "Justice" with 5.26 mil.

It's looking good for a Smallville 8th Season!:D

Really? You watch Smallville because of soap opera drama?

I still get surprised everyday. You are also going for a surprise when you learn that the majority of Smallville's fans are because of the mythos.

I with you on this. I do not watch daytime soaps. Too trivial and too much pseudo sex.

Kara adds a lot to the show IMO and is a good ratings draw. Is she here like brainiac (temporary) or like Lois (permanent addition)? when she took off I wondered if they were going without her for a while.

meteor
10-19-2007, 04:36 PM
^^ they wouldn't have her in the opening if she weren't permanent. i agree with your assessment...not really my type but i have to admit the girl is sizzling on screen, and her character has a lot of potential.

But I'm so happy it went up this week! I hardly saw any commercails for it. And it went up! YAY!

I don't think Season 8 was never in doubt. It's one of the network's highest rated shows. Really, it depends on where the actors and writers want to go from here, rather than the network itself.

For a show in it's 7th season, this is really incredible. I'm guessing this doesn't include Live+7 DVR ratings either? It's impressive. If this continues, I'm sure the ratings will go up when Lara comes to town. A lot more girls, because of the addition of Kara, are actually tuning in this year too.

Amazing news on the ratings. Can't wait to see if next week can keep it up. Action looks hilarious but it seems like the type of off-the-wall episode that isn't everyone's cup of tea.

From the K-Site news page:
Smallville had its best ratings in the ages 18-34 and 18-49 demographics since January, when the network screened the popular episode "Justice." Smallville also ranked or tied for #1 in the 8PM hour with Males 18-34, 12-34, and 12-17, and placed second in its timeslot among teens. That's pretty good. I think it paid off to get Dean Cain on the show.

The next few episodes will do fine, especially with Christina Millian and Helen Slater guest starring.

Excellent news on the ratings, though. We're definitely getting an eighth season if the trend continues.

absolutley it paid off-to me the casual smallville viewer who might miss some episodes here or there probably heard dean cain was on and definately wanted to not miss this. i believe this is not the case for every guest star that comes on the show, but when you have special guest stars with tie ins to superman like christopher reeves and dean cain, people are more inclined to watch the show.

if you look last year, Fallout with Bow Wow was a very high rated episode for season 6 because of the appeal he has. The next post down from yours lists Helen Slater and Christina Millian coming on and even though they are not huge stars, they are big enough to draw some attention.

ClarkyBoy14
10-20-2007, 07:21 AM
I don't actually know how big of a star Christina Millian is (I only know she sang the Kim Possible), but I'm sure there will be some people who will watch just for her. Especially if the CW airs a promo that says she's guesting, like they did for Dean Cain.

And w/ Helen Slater, ppl who saw her on SG may watch.

Smallville rating would be alot higher if Hawaii have CW channel. Instead of the current 5mill, it would have been 6mill. Now I would have to rely on kind friends within the 48-States to record and have it delivered through eMail to catch the show. Although it's a hassle but it's all worth it. I wish the people of Hawaii didn't have to resort to such thing, but we have no choice.

If they can manage to stay in the 4.5 or up category from now on, I think that we'll get another season. They better do some promo for Helen Slater too. She may not be big like her brother Christian, but she was in the original movie and she does have an audience who will remember her. I hope they take advantage of that.

Minela
10-21-2007, 12:20 PM
Why wouldn't there be an 8th season? What else will the CW have? The promotion darling "Gossip Girl" is a flop. Mwahahahahaha

uhhuhhim
10-21-2007, 07:47 PM
^^^ You know which show really gets me, Minela? Aliens in America...It's so stereotypical it's almost offensive. Reaper is basically pointless and whoever thought Life Is Wild would make a good show needs to get their head examined. They really have nothing besides: ANTM, Smallville, and Beauty and the Geek. My guess is that they'd want to keep their hit shows around as long as possible, but TV is unpredictable.

Well, when characters leave a show, sometimes what they'll do is have another character like Lana pretend she's talking to Lex on the phone or reading an email from him or something like that. Plus, if he's leaving, who's going to be the villain?

"Smallville" saw increases of 44% in both women 18-34 (2.34rtg v. 1.63rtg) and adults 18-34 (2.55rtg v. 1.77rtg) in Live+7 DVR viewing
