View Full Version : "...Isn't the Lana who returned..." What?

From last weeks preview for this episode, it made it appear that Lana was either going to be a) in fact the clone, or b) just a more evil type of Lana. Where was the scene where she hugged Clark in his home and she looks up in suspicion? They also cut the scene where Lana was sitting at a computer, assumably downloading some software or information to get Lex's 10 million. I liked how she played out in the episode, i just didnt see where the whole "The Lana who left, isnt the Lana who returned" came about in the episode? What do you guys think? Why put scenes in a trailer if they arent in the final cut especially if it sounds like its a different plot then what airs?

I totally agree, I think they cut that scene out like they do with lots of the episodes. They will show one thing in the preview then it won't be in the episode! Example: the "Bizarro" trailer showed Bizarro choking Clark, but it was never aired!

Exactly what I was going to say? That sucks. I thought there was gonig to be some sort of revelation about Lana.
And on a side not I noticed in the pictures that Kara was wearing like a super girl sort of costume with a cape. Did they show that in the pageant?

scenes tend to get cut all the time for episodes either due to time/content/ or other reasons unknown. that is the plus side of dvd sets we get to see what was cut.

I think they include parts of scenes in the previews that they cut out in the show to throw us off. There were some parts missing from the preview that really would have threw Lana's return throw the roof. I like the way it went though...simple enough, they didnt make her reunion with clark sappy or cheesy. It worked

I never took the whole "the Lana who returns isn't the same..." to be addressed in this ep. I think it sets Lana's character up for this season. I think her darkness will unfold as the eps progress.

not even gonna try to gage how clones operate, but I would think Lana's memories and feelings, would be experienced by the clone as well.

That was probably from the "talent" portion of the pageant. No, they didn't show any of the pageant except the bikini portion. What a surprise that they would leave that in! Do you suppose that her talent was flying?

The Lana that left was an evil Lana, now they are trying to convince us that Lana is a good girl. Notice the lack of black in her clothing, the lemonade, the scenes where she is bathed in warm light, her OOC behaviour as she is giving Clark advice, her baking apple pie for Clark...

It's called a misleading trailer which CW does all the time.
Just like they include scenes in there that never make it to the actual ep.

Hey! Maybe that's a clip from a later episode. The clone isn't dead! Maybe there will be a fight between Lana and her clone and... we won't know who survives.

Maybe Lana is a clone and Clark can tell and that's why Clark didn't really respond to her, like kissing her, etc. after seeing her for the first time after he thought she was dead!
Yeah I was curious about that as well.. I really do hope the Lana that we see now isnt going to turn into a Clone.. Cuz that would just be too much.. I just want to see what kind of pie shes going to bake next week.

My theory, the Lana that came back is indeed the clone. That's probably how the Clark-Lana relationship is going to end this time, with the revelation that she's the clone.
Sort of like, in the 90's Spiderman cartoon series on Fox. Mary Jane got sent to an alternate dimension, a cloned Mary Jane comes back.
Either that, or they really did screw up with the preview.

She's for sure a clone.
They for sure screwed over the clone fans.
Chloe for sure will become our Hero and expose the Lana clone.

10-12-2007, 02:14 PM
Being that Lana knew stuff she had lived through while the clone was lying on a rack at the damn, this can't be the clone. I think TPTB intent is to show that Lana has really changed from the sweet girl next door, to a girl damaged by Lex. It's only a matter of time, like when Clark and her disaggree on something, we'll see the change.

That's a good observation and I would agree, it could be that the Lana we did see was in fact a Clone and that Lana is somewhere out there, still hiding and whatnot. However, we can't be sure about that because it could either be that it is the Clone or that it's the real thing.
But that's a good point you made.

Hear hear.
'Splenda' - may cause irrational behavior, excessive brooding and manifest the urge to declare a former friend (and rival for Splenda's affection) your Nemesis so that Splenda only sweetens one person's coffee!

I've wondered if the "new" Lana might be the clone, especially since they keep emphasizing the "crime" committed. I don't think killing the clone, which supposedly was not alive yet, would be a crime. I also don't think Lana taking Lex's money was necessarily a crime. Deceitful, perhaps, but supposedly the money belongs to both of them now that they are married. Isn't that what Lex said to her when she got back from Amsterdam? Because her response was "think of all the good that we can do with it".
Sometimes they try too hard to make the story complex and hard to follow in the hope that the viewer will get lost and miss the glaring lack of continuity. The master of misdirection was Alfred Hitchcock and the writers could take a few lessons from him.

Well, remember that runaway bride thing that happened a few years ago in the US? That was a crime (they wanted her to pay the money spent on trying to track her down), so this would be much worse since officially (to the govt) Lex is not a criminal and Lana framing her husband for a murder that was never committed is a crime.
I'm surprised that Clark didn't object to this. She flat out told him that she committed a crime. I'm surprised he didn't question her.

Like I said, the "Lana who left isn't the one who returned" shouldn't be taken literally. There is only 1 Lana now, and it's the original. Having another clone would be too messy and would hurt the show a lot. They did this with Spider-Man in the comics. When his clone Ben Reilly returned (after Peter disposed of the clone's corpse in a factory smokestack), they wrote the comics so that the Spider-Man who had been present all that time was the clone and Ben Reilly was the original. Then people got pissed off (like myself) and left the Spider-Man books. They later confirmed that Ben Reilly was always the clone and Peter was the original, but the damage was done.

Yea, i agree to all of this. Just like "Lionel being bad, then good, then kind of bad" last season got kind of confusing like they were trying to go somewhere with it, but decided not to. It worked, but yea. Hopefully, the clone thing is over and i hope the Kryptonian still on Earth dosent dig the writers into a hole that they dont know how to get out of in a good way.

I don't think there is a Kryptonian still on Earth. They said there was another one that visited. I'm guessing it was Zor-El or perhaps Lara.
But like you said, it could cause a hole they can't get out of. If Zor-El was on Earth, then why wouldn't he have had input into the FOS? After all, the artifacts that created the FOS existed long before Jor-El was born and before there were problems in the El family between Jor-El & Zor-El.

The Lana who left isn't who returned...Maybe, they thought we'd assime what we did, and made it so that the EVIL lana who left isnt' the SAME as the GOOD Lana who returned...literally...get it? lol...haha...if thye did that, they're messing with us while they build up something for her
off of that......
I DO think there IS a Kryptonian on Earth, and it will show that the planets are connected..

I've got it! The Lana that returned (let's call her Lana2 and the Lana that left Lana1) is really Lionel, who was set up to be dead by Lana1, who Lex (who is really Chloe) killed because Clark (who is really Lois in a Shelby costume) is in love with Alicia (who's really Pete) who Lex (Chloe) realized he (she) is totally in love with.
Whew! Now we got that out of hte way.

Well anyway....
In FIERCE when Lana said to Clark that she " knows actually what she is getting into" by involving herself in a relationship with clark. Also when it was mentioned earlier in the episode By Kara that Clark will outlive Lana etc.
I started to think perhaps we are seeing the real Lana but she has a clone of herself in hiding and that the purpose of the clone would be to live longer using the clone so to be with Clark.
Just a thought !!!
