I haven't been on these forums since the end of last season but from what I get is that us Canadians with A-channel see these episodes before everyone else? Well I won't spoil the show but I will say I haven't been impressed with Kara's flying so far. She seems like a Barbie with an akward pose as compared to Kal's flying at the end of season 3 or Bizarro's flying.

I thought it was pretty sweet. I could have done with Lana not coming back yet but hey what more can you ask for, we got a kick ass supergirl with some serious attitude, LL launching her mythical career at the DP and Clark FINALLY going to the FOS again.

Yeah I didn't like that Lana stuff, just too soon for her. I think they should just wait for Superman 3 to come out before bringing her back.

I kind of wanted Lex to tell her that he loved her, I really felt like it was missing from the scene. I don't really mind having Lana on Smallville but I'm just dreading the Clana again, its been going on too long, Clark had his Lana time and it has passed now.

I really enjoyed the episode, the opening with Clark, Lois and Kara was fantastic....when Kara flew up into space I jumped up and actually said "that was awesome". Another part of the episode I really enjoyed was Clark(or should I say Mr Miyagi) informing Kara about her hearing ability and helping her use/control it...great scene!
I really felt bad for Chloe in this episode, it was just one kick in the face after another, multiple times from Grant and even once from Kara, but with that being said, it was something she really needed to hear and I think it is really going to make her focus on her career and get her priorities back and check.
I was really really suprised how much I enjoyed the scene with Lex and Lana. Lana setting up the trail of "breadcrumbs" for Lex to find her, was completly shocking(to me anyways... I thought he had 1uped her). The flashback montage in the scene I thought was a defenite plus, instead of just talking about what Lana did showing it defenitly added to the scene.
One last thing...... I really enjoyed Laura vandervoort's(Kara). very very happy she can act, although some of the dialogue seemed forced, I was pleasantly suprised.

I am going to give this episode an '8'; not at all because it was a bad episode (quite the contrary, actually) but because it just felt different from "Bizarro", which I totally loved.
One of the major things I loved about this episode is that it didn't rely on some kind of "Freak of the Week" or anything to tell the story. The complete episode was filled with characters we knew (except for the new editor, but since he will be recurring it doesn't really matter). I really like this idea and I hope we see more episodes like this in the future.
The effects were also done really well - especially the Fortress of Solitude, which looked particularly amazing during this episode. I can't wait to see the future episodes now that Clark has decided to start training!

This show might finally be hitting it's stride, even if I missed the first 20 minutes, I thought it was excellent and I can't remember liking two episodes in a row since Alicia's last two appearances. Maybe Smallville is leaving the stupidity behind. And ClarkMan will be flying fairly soon, my prediction, leaving the 'no flights no tights' in the dust.
I gave it an 8/10. It was good but it had a few parts that were just not clicking for me. But it was def a good episode.
I guess I just didn't like how the new editor was treating Chloe - he could be a little less of an azz to her - it's great that he's a hard guy but a little less of a jerk would have made it flow better for me. Just my opinion there.......
Glad that CK is finally starting his training and lurking at the Fortress :)

I was kind of meh about it. I would probably give it a 7.
I thought it was going to be a really good episode but the story just didn't flow well. Not that it wasn't a good story... it really was. There was just something missing. It seemed really choppy.
shy175223

Jor-el said that Clark's training begins with looking after Kara because he said that Kara just could be dangerous...so there it doesn;t really look like Clark will train IN FOS at all.

Kara and Grant are a good addition to Smallville. What I will say is that I hope that Kara doesn't take over the show. Clark shouldn't be a guest star on his own show.
I'm glad that Lana will be returning to Smallville next week. I'm looking forward to the Clana reunion! Kristin and MR rocked that scene.
And in every scene I wanted to b*tch slap Lex!! Lex should've gone over to the darkside and stayed there...this redemption crap is annoying.
Lex cloned Lana. He's such a loser. Wasn't his Lana lookalike blow up dolls not good enough for this dude?
That said, based on next week's preview....I am tired of secrets and lies!
With Lana keeping a secret from Clark, it'll get old very soon. Don't ruin this season again with this secret crap.

I gave it a 9/10. The new editor could have been toned down a bit. I just didn't care for his attitude.
I was totally surprised that Kara didn't know Krypton had exploded or was on the verge of exploding. I'm not into the comics....

Very good episode! Leaps and bounds above last year's 2nd ep.
I love SG. And LV. When she was talking about Krypton in the barn, it was so sad. I felt bad for Kara!
Grant may have been an ass to Chloe, but was anything he said a lie? I hope this gives Chlo the kick in the pants to get serious about journalism.
I also liked how the end set up all those plots: a possible bad Kara, the government having the crystal, Lex looking for Kara, and, of course, Clark beginning his training.

Oh, and a big "HA!" to everyone b!tching about Kara's ship being pink and the only reason for Grant hiring Lois was because he thought she was hot and she sleeps her way in. :)

I thought that it was a good episode!! I actually liked the new editor....he was strict and more of a boss....Cloe needs that and I think that Lois will be a good addition to the Daily Planet...
I LOVED the part when Clark was helping Kara with her superhearing....that was awesome!
The only thing that was weird and frankly kind of stupid was the whole clone thing with Lana...Totally was NOT expecting that! Did anyone else think that that was weird??
I think that if the whole season is like this....it should go to another season!!

Grant is definately a dirt bag, perfect fit for Lois. Too bad they did not bring back the same actress they used in the fourth season that played Kara. A good comeback for Clark when Kara asked why he could not fly would have been, "Kal-El can fly, Clark is earth-bound."

I loved the episode. So far this season is 2 for 2 in my book with one minor complaint. Did anyone else notice a bit of choppy editing? When Clark was talking to Kara at the Daily Planet his voice went out of wack for a second or so and it was definitely not my tv cause I checked it on two tvs and got the same thing. Clark's voice was louder at one point and then it goes low when he said "I won't let you kill anyone else". It was an obvious and sloppy editing, but really that's my only complaint about the episode other than agreeing that the new editior was too hard on Chloe. I mean come on the girl's been reporting for years and Lois comes along and gets all the breaks. I'd like to see Chloe motivated to outdo her cousin and see some real competition between the two and not Lois getting handed everything on a silver platter.

Good episode. Very strong start this season. Kara was much better than I expected. Good chemistry between Clark and her. Earlier comment mentioned Clark with a different color on--saw that too, was dark green t-shirt when talking with Kara. First time I can remember that the color scheme changed.
I could even deal with Lana being back. However, this show is strongest when it deals with the mythology, and I think that's why this episode will get good reviews and keep the fans and new viewers sticking around for more. Good job!

I give it a 7, it was interesting.
I am hoping for ulterior motives from Chloe, Lex, Kara and Lana. Each played innocent rather well. I refused to believe that Chloe will undergo a character assassination this season. Lex is playing to meek to be believable. Kara was slotted in to easily to gel. I believe that was not the real Lana. So I am hoping for a shake up from all these characters to rock this season.

There was what? 20 minutes of Smallville and the rest advertising?
The plus though was I got to see Hayden Panettiere wash her face, I must have a Dodge Pickup Truck, I am switching to Orville Reddenbocker's popcorn, I really don't know what I am going to do with that feminine product, but I am gonna buy it, I have the Ba Da Ba Ba DAAA McDonald's theme stuck in my head, and I am putting on my shoes to go satisfy a Big Mac Attack, and while I am out I am buying some Cheer laundry detergent, checking out a Verizion phone plan, getting some Honey bunches of oats for my breakfast tomorrow, buy another Fantastic Four DVD and mark my calender so I don't miss CW Now!

Hmm....considering I had painfully low expectations for Kara's character, I was pleasantly surprised
The Good
~Clark as big bro/mentor/cousin....it's a new side of him and I like it. Just another forerunner to him being a leader
~Kara....she came off as a little cold, but I feel like there's potential to warm up now that the whole "wait....18 years...where's my planet??" thing is out of the way. Like I said she was better than I thought
The Bad
~Lois + Daily Planet. Oh sure I know it had to happen (would be unhappy if it didn't) plus she's got potential (with the whole curiosity/sticking with things/connections thing) but I think that was a very very bad way to go about it. Aside from totally knocking down Chloe in every possible way (i'm worried this will be AM's last season if they keep this up...esp with Kara being there to talk powers and such with Clark) it was just a silly way to get her in there.
The Ugly
~Lana Clone....wait what?? That whole run just gave me a headache
Overall....7/10 just because I watch the show to see Clark become superman....not the side shows.

kara was great, she did great acting.

STFanatic get a DVR and quit *****ing.;)
Anyway I gave the ep a 9/10. My problem with this ep was the explanation that Kara gave Clark for being here. Why was she coming to Earth? To watch over Clark? Which brings up the next question. Why would she be looking for baby Kal-El and why was he sent to Earth if she didn't know about the explosion? That was just sorry writing IMO.
Laura as hot as she is, is like Erica was in the first part of season 4....a terrible actress. But I think I can look over that because of how hot she is.
The clone of Lana was brilliant IMO. They showed continuity from last season when they show all those bodies. I know I saw a human body in that van after watching and rewinding the DVR (STFanatic hehe). I was not expecting that.
The editor really got on my nerves and he really took down Chloe which IMO sucked.

I give it a 10. I loved this episode. They are finally being consistent with the action and visual effects in the new season. Well atleast in the first two episodes so far. I can safety say that my likely of Kara before her episode debut was justified. She is alot more likeable than the "Kara" in season 3. She really is just a young girl trying to do what her father set her out to do. The Kara and Clark scenes were amazing. The Clark and Lois scenes were electricfying as always. Can't wait to see Clark learn more about Krypton from Kara and hopefully Kara can teach Clark how to fly . So far I like Grant but its just his first episode, I'm still on the fence about his motives. Lex is awesome just not with Lana or anyone for that matter and this episode proved that once again. The scene between Lex and Lana was jaring. Man I just wish she choose to stay in China. I was actually secretly wishing Lex would just shoot her, but unfortually he didn't. Overall I paid more attention to the story at hand which was Kara and could have definitely lived without Lana's drama.

I have three (sort of) I use my TV PC Card to digitally record, I have the DVR and two of the TV PC cards, one on one of my laptops and one on one of my desktops.
The point is, they are taking away the actual Smallville screen time to play more advertising, so the actual episode is shorter.

I gave it an 8. Bizarro was just so good that this one was a little flat for me.
I can understand TPTB was harsh with Chloe's character, but a healthy competitive setting at the Planet does seem quite realistic and yes Lois seemed to get the job because the guy liked her passion and looks. This just doesn't seem to be good for Chloe because she spends so much efforts covering for Clark. I can see it now that keeping things from Lois will be even more difficult.
I wasn't impressed with Kara nor unhappy with her. Clark just seems so much more special than her.
I started out happy with the way the clone issue was handled, however, next week's stuff seems to indicate we were sold a bill of false goods.
Anyways, mythos always makes an eppy better which is why I gave an 8, however, we really didn't learn much, Kara was the one doing the learning.
It was okay. I'm not the biggest SuperChloe fan, but man I felt so bad for her. She was just trying to protect Clark, and it came to bite her in the butt!
I liked the Lex and Lana scene. Kara and Clark scences were pretty decent, but they became a little cheesy when she was talking about Krypton.
While Lana is 'dead', Lois is doing a good job at filling in and making sure SV reaches it's weekly quota of head traumas.
The episode was just alright for me. I find it unnecessary to bring Supergirl in - it just distracts from Clark and his evolution.

"Kara" was a great episode, IMO. I'd give it an 8 out of 10.
The opening scene with Kara flying off after her first encounter with Clark was amazing. I loved the shot of her looking out over the world from space, before flying back down through the atmosphere.
Seriously, Clark needs to get started on that flying program ASAP.
Other things I liked about the episode were:
-Kara's crash course on super-hearing.
-The Visual effects of Kara containing her ship's detonation.
-Clark standing up for Chloe. (A much needed scene given how many hits her character took from her new editor.)
-Clark standing up to Jorel about his human emotions being a part of his identity and about being kept in the dark about an entire branch of his family tree.
I'm not sure how Lex made the transition from infusing dead soldiers with Zoner DNA to cloning Lana, but I hope all the complications involved in her returning to Smallville aren't tossed aside in the next episode.
Looking ahead, I think its great for Clark to have a new source for information about his Kryptonian heritage. Kara should definitely be able to help him fill in some blanks.
The introduction of U.S. government agents as major players in the fight over Kryptonian technology adds a new demension to the challenges of Smallville's inter-galactic travelers.
(I suspect that these are rogue agents since they made no effort to warn civilians about a nuclear explosion set to go off in Granville!)

Another 10 episode. Keep it up AlMiles.
Nice to hear another Ben Hubbard reference (since Prototype).
Interesting how the ship landed sideways. Looks like they repainted the same mockup of Brainiac’s ship.
Clark really traveled a good distance on the first Kara hit.
Great space sequence; especially the baby photos of Kal-El.
Chloe is definitely freaking about being a meteor freak (her expression looking at all the photos of Belle Reve residents).
Lois is now leading Lana 2-0 in the head trauma sweepstakes for Season 7.
What was Lionel covering with the guy who took the rap for Lex? Helping Lex? Helping Lana (before or after the explosion)?
Love how Kara kept picking up the toddlers and asking their names.
All Kara needs with that outfit is the Superman logo to create her Supergirl costume.
Nice body slam by Clark…really got her attention. Also, like the Superman logo on the bracelet.
Not wild about how she says Kal-El…I think we have a Kryptonian with a Canadian accent.
Graham is a major A$$. What great newspaper read worldwide would publish a spaceship article even with a photo?
I think it will be good for Chloe (although she’s having a very bad day). It’s interesting how she started working for the Daily Planet right after learning Clark’s secret. She hasn’t been the same reporter since having to cover for Clark. Maybe she’ll take more chances in competition with Lois.
Love the “Sweet Chubby Baby” remark from Kara. She watched over him, so must have been his babysitter. I’m sure Clark was having a lot of fantasies at superspeed right before he found out they were cousins. Notice how he took a step backward when he found out they were related.
Laura is very attractive but has very deep set eyes…in certain light it makes her look emaciated like Lana in Promise.
I thought her acting was very good especially her reactions when finding out about the destruction of Krypton and the loss of her family.
“This yellow sun has fried your brain cells.” Explains the BDA issues.
“Define self destruct.” Good question.
Love the laser effects on the spaceship. Nicely done.
The bad guy reminds me of the Trask character from LnC who was a rogue government agent that tried to kill Superman because he feared an alien invasion. With the clone storyline is Season 7 emulating LnC. Let’s hope not.
Great how Kara wouldn’t wait for the elevator doors and Clark’s “don’t look back”.
Terrific teaching lesson for super hearing. Does she know about heat vision, yet? Maybe she’ll find out when she meets Jimmy.
It’s interesting that when a Kryptonian ship explodes there’s no debris.
Like the scene between Lana and Lex. Lex still has at least a little humanity left and for the record Lana did not pull the trigger (as some have suggested on other threads). Her finger twitched but she never pulled it. Nice special effect of 2 Lanas. Plus Lana was able to get a bit of her own self-respect back. But calling her “brilliant” was a little over the top.
Good line about the water view for Lois looking at the water cooler.
And Chloe’s worst nightmare is fulfilled.
Kara looked really good in the sunset scene. Interesting reference to the doomsday scenario. Like the first time she calls him Clark…nice smile. The family dynamic should be really interesting. Good emotion from Laura about not seeing her family again.
So Clark has begun his training but not exactly as we thought…Watching over Kara. Great special effect of the aurora over the FOS.
Lex’s man shouldn’t have too much trouble finding her…she’s only a couple of miles down the road. Except, Lex’s drawing didn’t look at all like her.
Looking forward to next week but is the Lana returning the real Lana or another Clone…stay tuned.

The episode was cool. I liked the chemistry between Kara and Clark. But I felt they could've used more screen time. In fact, I don't know why they had to make it so Lana lived. This episode would've ran so much better without her in it. And Lex....is kind of ruined right now. His character has really regressed and it's sad.
Also I'm not very happy at this 'treat Chloe like s***' thing. I mean, what did she to deserve this?
All in all, I give this episode a 8/10.

I give it an 8 and just because Lana was in it and Lex couldnt be more pathetic in this episode. The rest was awsome, the FX, they are really not cutting down on the budget this time around. Lois joins the DP and Im actually glad she is starting in the basement. Im glad Chloe got the wake up call she needed and will focus once again in her career I just hope this doesnt become a Chlo Lo rivalry.
Good epi and I like Kara and I was afraid they´d make Clark look bad to make her look goof but fortunately that didnt happen. LV is not only friggin hot (I wanna marry her*drools* :D) but she isnt a bad actress, she can hold her own at least to smallville standards.
I was amazed at how good they handled Clark and Kara´s loft scene in the end, Kara finging out about the destruction of Krypton and dealing with it and Clark helping. Dunnno, great epi all around.

In case you missed the conversation, Kara was looking for a baby Kal-El because she was in suspended animation. She thought she was 18 years in the past, when he was a baby, and she didn't know about the explosion because she was sent to Earth to save Krypton. That aside, I agree that Laura didn't exactly act the part so well. Hopefully, she'll get better throughout the season, otherwise it will be painful to watch. I didn't mind Grant so much, only because his delivery was so funny, but I think he tore Chloe down to get her to realize where her passion for journalism actually came from. The whole Lana clone thing was unnecessary and hopefully won't come up again. Overall, I gave it a 7, a point less than Bizarro. It just didn't grab me as much, though it was okay.

Wow! 10/10
So much wonderful character stuff.
Chloe is at a crossroads. She's got a new scary power, 33.1 is looming at her, she's Clark's side kick, Oracle of the proto justice league and she's got an editor who's called her on her crap. Being a superhero is pretty thankless and who is she doing it for, Clark? or herself? Who is she sacrificing all this for? The world? I look forward to seeing Chloe from Seasons 1-3 return, or to seeing Chloe making some decisions about where she wants to go from here.
Lois! Lois was... well... Lois. I enjoyed the opening scene with Clark. It was fun the way she hid her feelings about Clark leaving beneath playful teasing. Mad dog Lane indeed... I loved all the Lois in here.
Kara: I started to love her after the playground scene. She has a fun dynamic with Clark and most importantly, fills the void of family left by Martha Kent. MM helps to fill the void of mentor... but Kara is family.
Clark and destiny. Clark is ready for his training. Jor-el is ready for him to spy on Kara. LOL! But I loved that Clark had made plans to leave, and stuck to them, even though Kara had arrived. I loved that he stood up for himself with Jor-el instead of accepting the Kryptonian/Human either-or scenario. It was wonderful.
The editor. What an A**... but I agreed with pretty much everything he said. Chloe's been running around sidekicking it and saving the world. Her journalism career has suffered. I also think there's a change of temperature at the DP with the new editor. Chloe set her course to Pauline... and now this guy has a new style... I liked him. He's not P.C. and he's not NICE. It's refreshing. He reminded me of the editor in Spider Man a bit with the Family Rivalry thing. He's kind of young.
Misty Eyed Lex Luthor... I enjoyed him until he got to Lana's apartment in China. Then everything that came out of his mouth made me sick. But I like the scenario... that Lana wanted him to find her and she was gonna kill him. The clone stuff was silly. Lana sure is lucky Lex saw Kara. I like that Kara is his new quest. Wonder what Lex will do when he finds her.
Chlo-Lo squeeze.
Next week? Um... LOL!!! :rotfl:

Thought this episode was just 'ok'.
I like the way Clark is behaving, and Kara didn't annoy me as much as I expected her to (though she really did have some cringe-worthy lines).
Lost a few points for me with the script - most of the incidental stuff fell flat, and the Lexana scene was terrible.
Michael is acting like he'd really rather be somewhere else (just like last week), let's hope that improves when the real Lex returns.

I gave it 10/10, cuz there's no 12 to choose. This episode was better than Bizarro.
Loved the Chloe/Lex encounter.....and Lex getting burned by her.
Loved Kara's quotes, made me laugh. And she picking up kids was just hilarious.
I really didn't like the scenes with the new editor in it, someone needs to pull him down from the clouds.
Lois getting smacked 2 times was a big lol. I wonder when it's going to be num3.
Lana/Lex scene, i was like, OMG just shoot him in his leg if u can't shoot him in the chest, but nooo, she rather squeezed out a tear or two to make her eyes watery....
I thought Clark was going to do the S5 E1 training, was disappointed there.
The episode seemed short again, especially the last 15 minutes.
Oh, and i just love Kara and the way she says Clark, rawr   sexeh. (did you notice that she says it in same was as Alicia did)

10/10 these episodes are flawless. I am truly shocked.
I cannot remember the last time I enjoyed Smallville this much.
Things I enjoyed:
ALL the Clark/Kara interaction.
"I guess girls really do mature faster than boys."
The new editor and his interaction with Lois and Chloe. But you can already tell he has a thing for Lois. Even though I wanted to punch him for his Chloe bashing I liked his quote that said something along the lines of "Put that fire back in the torch that burnt out after high school." It is kind of true. After Chloe found out about Clark she wasn't as hungry for stories.
I could have done w/o the Lexana. Blah. But we only had to see her for 3 minutes.

I loved the episode. After it was over I was sitting around trying to figure out why I was disappointed, since it was such a great episode. And I figured it out, I wanted more more more. Some episodes of Smallville just deserve to be two hours long, and this was one of them (as was Bizarro, Justice, etc.)
Here are a few things I didn't like before I get to the things I loved:
Some of the special effects were just off, like Kara's first couple of flying scenes (not including her going into space, that was awesome).
No explanation for *why* Lex cloned Lana?
Lana just let Lex walk away and accepts his offer? I understand her not killing him or trying to kill him, that would've made her totally beyond redemption, but not even a good old ***** slap for what he did to her?
Things I loved:
Also starting with the special effects. Kara's flight into space and the crystal showing baby Kal-El. Kara learning how to use super-hearing Clark picking up Kara, super-speeding her, then grabbing her and slamming her to the ground when she tried to fly. Lots of little effects all in a row and they were all well done.
Mythology. Lots of mythology. Kara knew Lara, Clark goes to train, and Kara is actually a part of his training. Clark back in the FOS, talking to Jor-El. Standing up to him but not hating him.
Grant Gabriel is an a-hole, and I'm gonna love hating him. Lois getting a job at the DP is great, I just hope her and Chloe can come to some sort of truce. And I hope to see Lois standing up for her cousin against GG more. Seeing her refuse to do the story at first was great, showing her true character.
Overall a great episode, I rated it a 9/10 because of the little niggling things that got to me and the fact that this could've been a perfect episode if it was longer.
Oh, and one thing I'm neutral on until I see it play out:
THe DOD guy. Not sure what to think of him. He just was. He seemed important but then again he didn't. Hopefully we'll understand more of his intentions later in the season, and his character won't be so...blah.

Remember the clips and stills I posted showing the body burning in the Jeep? ;)
They wrapped that up too fast, who helped her into the mail truck?
This reminds me of another one of my complaints that didn't really detract from the episode but could've been done better. She accomplished this whole thing by herself? She got past Lex's security in the dam, got the clone, put it in the car, then she managed to start the car and get on the mailtruck all before Lionel saw her and without getting blown up. I think it's just sloppy editing. They showed it going so fast in Phantom so we'd wonder if she could've survived, but in reality all that took place in a much slower time-frame.

Kara was sent by her father to watch over Kal-el. She didn't know about the explosion because it was a secret, remember? Jor-El couldn't get anyone to believe him, but his brother Zor-El probably did. They explained at the end how there was a rift between the two parts of the family. Zor-El probably wanted to save his daughter and also keep an eye on Jor-El's plans on Earth via his child.
They also explained in the episode that she didn't know she was in suspended animation for 18 years, so she though Clark was still a baby or toddler.
You might trying listening while you watch next time.

It was ok, I liked the new editor for trying to light a fire under Chloes succulent posterior.

The government story line seems interesting.
Clark seems to be getting buff and Kara asking him why he can't fly was priceless !

Wow. Great episode. I got completely giddy in the opening sequence and right up until Kara said she was looking for Kal-El. I mean, really, really giddy. I love those moments because that's how I know I am a comic book geek.
I give this a 9. LV's acting could have been better, but I thought the same way with Justin Hartley last season as Oliver Queen, right up until Arrow. That's when I thought he was perfect for the role. Give it some time, and I think LV will show us she's perfect for the role of Kara.
Grant was a major pain, but he was right about Chloe. But, as someone said, what self-respecting great paper would print a story of a spaceship, even if you do have a photo?
The governent storyline does seem like the story line from the first season of Lois and Clark. It also makes me wonder if this is the first hint of Project Cadmus? I guess 33.1 could be considered a hint of that, but with the government involved, it really makes me wonder.

Gave it an eight. I like the set up of Jor-el telling Clark not to trust Kara, even though the Clone - Lana seems unplausible, it does add a new dimension to the character that may prove interesting. Lex will not stay this good, but i do believe he felt bad about Lana and will leave her alone. The only part i did not care for was the whole shooting down of Chloes skills as a reporter.

My favorite scene of many was when Clark stopped Kara from flying away and slammed her down to the ground. That was awesome.

My hope for this season is that there is a Lex/Lana/Kara triangle. Since Lana is coming back "different" and hopefully evil, she will get jealous and try to ruin the Lex/Kara relationship by getting back with Lex. I'm just not ready to let lexana go and embrace clana....

It was average with a lot of the explanation of Kara's powers and ship being nonsense.
What we did not see was Lois Lane launching her career at the DP; that would be sad inded if the real Lois Lane got in with no story, no credentials, no portfolio and no experience while real reporters like Chloe get dissed. Classic Lois Lane gets into the DP because she has always wanted to be a legitimate journaist (like Chloe) and has the experience, talent and drive to do so. EDLois showed up with nothing yet was handed a job by a guy who so obviously has an ulterior motive with his too much knowledge of Chloe and his ridiculous flattery of EDLois, the tabloid girl with nothing up her sleeve.
This was defintiely not Iconic Lois LAne beginning her carreer at the DP. WE saw that way back in Thirst.

I liked this episode, if I had to rank it, it would get a solid 9 from me. But there is something about it that doesn't sit right with me and I can't put my finger on it. Here's my breakdown:
Grant/Chloe/Lois: I liked the fact that they have brought in this new element to spice things up a bit, but I think they went from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds with the pitting of Lois and Chloe against each other in the journalistic world. They make a great team, so I hope this doesn't break up their family.
Lex/Lana Scene: I liked the idea that Lana didn't try to run to Clark to help her with Lex when she realized he had cloned her, though why he cloned her is a puzzle to me. I thought it was very good to know that she stayed steps ahead of Lex, I really wish she had busted a cap into Lex. Maybe not kill him, but at least make him hurt a bit. There was some thing about the flow of that scene though, that was kind of slow. Other then that, it was a scene that need to happen.
Kara: I'm not quite sure yet how I feel about Laura Vandervoort in this character. I'll say it was a good start, but I'm going to give it another week and then decide.
As for the whole story of Smallville, I will say this: I've never read the comics and so I'm not privy to all the ins and outs of the legend. However, what I do know about the story is that there are parts of it that have already been twisted around to make the show work, so I have chosen to view the series "Smallville," and the movies/comics as two seperate entities. One exists because of the other and now the other has to stand on it's own feet and storyline.

Ah, the Chlois theory. Gotta love the little jab in the dialogue where Lois says she'll never be Chloe Sullivan. Yet the Chloisers continue to persist despite their theory being nonsense in the first place. Fun stuff.

It was way better that I expected. Lois seemed much more appropriate here than last week. Interesting interactions with this new editor. Is he supposed to be cannon or a new alliterated character?
Supergirl and Clark were pretty good too. The F/Xs were once again lame, way below the standards of pre-Season 6, and that does bother me sometimes.

I kinda see your point with Grant/Chloe/Lois, but in a sense, there has been a little competition. Mainly Lois against Chloe, because Chloe doesn't worry too much about Lois. I'm thinking of an instance (I really honesty can't recall which episode it was) but Chloe was like "alright, let's see what you got" and Lois said "Y'know, now that we're working for rival papers, I shouldn't share my stories with you." So, in that sense, there's been a little competition, but mainly from Lois, not Chloe.
I totally agree with you concerning Lex/Lana. She should have hurt him somehow, and I really honestly have a hard time believing she wouldn't at least hurt him after the hell she'd been through.

Oh I disagree. In that instance, she had a scoop and you don't tell your scoop to a Journalist at a "rival" paper. Chloe did begin to secretly do some digging and... I don't think she would scoop Lois but... Chloe's a little territorial about Journalism and overly dismissive of Lois because of it.
I don't think Lois' drive has much to do with Chloe. I do think Lois feels she has a lot to prove, to Chloe and others but Lois loves the chase.

Over all I gave the episode an 8. The parts about Kara were very interesting and I like her as a character. She is more of a definite link to Krypton than Dr. Swann or even Jor-El. She understands Clark because she was there when he was born and she (hopefully) won't be so cryptic with his past as his father is.
Hated the new Editor and how he's trying to get Lois in the bed. I don't see this ending well.
Kara flying out of the atmosphere was a great effect. Also Clark helping Kara master one of her powers was very touching and a great moment for Clark.
The Lex/Lana stuff was boring and a terrible plot twist. Clones? Are you kidding me? Great Deus ex machina moment (sarcasm). It would be better if she just faked the death without the clone nonsense.
Chloe seems really torn about what Lana left her and her power. It is putting her in a weird place because she has been so confident in the past now she seems like a shell. Even her scene with Lex did not have the same Chloe fire. I was expecting a much better retort than "all it proves is you need some psychiatric help" No wonder Allison has been sounding all depressed on her blog.
I would like to see more of Kara.

STILL don't like the addition of "Super-Barbie."
Still HATE the fact that she FLYs before Clark!!
Another lame wha-huh... Her immediate grasp of English and popular culture... as stupid as the Mexican boy with the California accent from "Subterranean." American T.V. my ****.
But if they are going to go down this cheesy path at least they should make the effects up to the usual standards. The scenes with her powers and flight looked sub par. Goofy. Stupid.
Lois and Chloe at the Planet... interesting. (I really wished I liked Lois more, since they are destined to force her and Clark together at some point.) But at this point I don't feel ANY chemistry between TW and ED.
The Lex and Lana confrontation seemed a little rushed... anti-climatic.
I understand that Lana was rightly afraid and also trying to protect Clark... but it bothers me (as in, it makes no sense and seems out of character) that the writers would have Lana being so insensitive to how much PAIN her false death would cause Clark and Chloe. I don't believe that she would not trust them with the truth.
The preview for next week is VERY alarming. What the hell do they mean by "the Lana that left is not the Lana that returns"?! It BETTER be a figure of speech.
They write out Martha... have Super-Bimbo flying around... AND make Lana a clone... we're getting close to a deal-killer here.
Of course... the reality is... I'll watch ANY episode that features TW as Clark. I could watch him load hay into the truck for an hour and call it a good show.
Anyone know how Kara came to be sent to earth like Clark... to "watch out" for him... but she didn't know that Krypton was gone. That makes no sense.
The reason Clark was sent away was to save him because they knew the planet was doomed. How could she be sent away too and not know. For what other reason did she think Jor-El and Lara would send their toddler to another galaxy?!

on paper it may have been a great episode. Acting wise, something was off with everybody IMO. Was it a different director?
Didn't like Kara, Clark needs a haircut, Chloe was surprising (not in a good way-the storyline and her reactions, although I can see why, I just didn't like seeing it), and the whole Lexana was pathetic. Oh, and I didn't care for Lois either.
I was very disappointed-seemed too cheesy for me and I am a die-hard fan-so of course I'll hold out hope for next week :D
I thought the episode was great the season is looking good so far I gave it a 9. I loved the Clark/Kara scenes together because it's cool to see Clark have a real family member that is related to him. I liked there scenes together. I didnt really care about the Lex and Lana scene because I never liked them together. but I did like the saide of Lana because we never really saw that side of her before. I also like the whole Grant/Chloe/Lois scene but I didnt like when Grant said a Rival between Lois and Chloe because I like when they work together and solve cases together. I just hope they dont start hating each other. I liked this epoisde it was really good

Great episode. Season 7 is looking to be the season we've all been waiting for in so many ways. They are firing on all cylinders.
I want to particularly point out Tom Welling. I know this is being said all over these boards, but oh my freaking gosh, the guy seems more like Superman than ever before! What happened to him over the summer? I know hes always been great at his part, but lately hes just been downright fantastic. His composure and delivery of lines is starting to put him up there with Christopher Reeve for me. I know thats a pretty big claim, but dang man, Tom is just hitting it out of the park these days.

I liked this episode better than Bizarro.
I didn't think I would, but I like Kara. I think LV is playing her great. And I loved that shot of Kara above the Earth. That was beautiful.
Clark being a mentor is also great. TW and LV play well off each other. I was hope we have more Clark in future episodes like he was in this one.
Chloe, I love you. Grant's an ass, and I can't wait for when Chloe gets to the top. It's the obvious set up. I think TPTB are getting a brain!
I did think Grant ripping on Chloe was over the top and forced. And Lois got yet another thing she didn't deserve. *iz shocked*
I could have done without the Lexana. How MR played that scene with a straight face is beyond me.
Overall I gave the episode an 8.

Ugh I am so disappointed. I gave it a 4. I purposefully didn't read too many spoilers so as not to ruin this episode for myself but the show did that all on it's own.
Where do I start?? Firstly Kara was rubbish, I definitely don't like that she speaks like a human and LV's acting leaves much to be desired to put it mildly. Kara's flying/hovering scenes looked lamer than lame. And her reaction - that her planet had exploded and her entire race wiped out was awful. It was like it was nothing more than her pet hamster dying.
LV is just so wrong for the role and although she is pretty there is something very odd about her face - I look at it and I can imagine just a skull with no eyes, she looks like skeletor. I really liked the fake Kara - at least she spoke like a Kryptonian and was wise not a spoilt brat. I don't like Kara's attitude.
I didn't like the new editor at the DP, he was so full of sh*t. I couldn't believe the BS coming out of his mouth. Chloe doesn't need to be challenged or motivated she already is. She was stuck covering boring stories 'cos that's what they forced her to do. She still did her own investigating of stories and had her own bylines. I don't buy this whole Lois as a better 'more hungry' reporter crap. They should have kept Lois at the Inquisitor, there was no need to bring her to the DP as she isn't the great Lois Lane at the DP for at least another 7 years and I don't believe I she worked her way from the bottom up.
What the hell was up with Lois giving up her story and showing her photos to the editor of a rival paper?? Clark's 'that's not really a space ship' crap line - I mean hello??
How the hell did Lex go from thinking Lana was dead to working out she had used the clone to fake her own death? Lana left breadcrumbs - what breadcrumbs? If there were breadcrumbs the storyline of Lex finding her should have been played out over quite a few episodes not boom 'a-ha she faked her death and she is in China'. They glossed over how Lana came to learn about 33.1 and her clone. Never mind the major plot hole of how the hell Lana got into the facility and wheeled out a clone of herself? Lex's story about 'oh it was easy for you to take the clone as it was never alive' made no sense - I mean what??? Were they having a free giveaway on dead clones or something at the 33.1 facility? Or did they just put the dead ones out at the back with the regular rubbish  Perhaps Wednesday is dead clone rubbish collection day in Smallville!
It's like they started a storyline but couldn't be bothered to run with it so decided to cut if off with some lame ass explanation - which actually makes no sense at all.
Nothing was in the episode that I expected to see or wanted to see. Where was the Chlark chat about Chloe's resurrection? Clark's feelings about thinking Chloe was dead? Clark's feelings about Lana being dead? Lois asking Chloe why the hell she wasn't dead and how Lois has been resurrected. Hell if Lois is such a good reporter why isn't she chasing down the story of how the hell SHE is still alive after being stabbed to death??
I just hated all of it. Best bit for me was Clark dragging Kara out of the sky. Whilst the writers are writing deus ex machina crap I wish they would write a storyline that involved a giant Monty Python foot coming out of the sky and squashing the new DP editor and Kara to death. Either that or Brainiac makes a guest appearance and tosses Kara & Grant into the Sun never to be seen again.
I do hope this season gets better, so far I am unimpressed :\
Oh and one last thing - I hated that Lex said the clone was never alive. I mean what the hell - how do you grow a human clone without it ever being alive at any stage?? I'd understand if it was alive and it had somehow died during experiments but it was NEVER alive - that just makes no sense?! Or does he mean the tissues were alive but it was brain dead?

Why wouldn't Kryptonians know English?
Did not Jor-el himself come to earth and sniff around the married Lang chick? (runs in the family I guess)
And Jor-el's father was the one who sent him to earth.
So why wouldn't Kara know English since she prepared to come here?
I am glad they brought in Kara so there will be some superhero action, but from the spoilers, the writers are going to go the soap opera route with her too.
It looks as if they have put Clark in Johnathon's role and Kara in Clark's.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with Kryptonians knowing English. It's just Kal-El and Jor-El and the fake Kara all had a certain way of speaking - it was English but it was not colloquial everyday English. Listen to Jor-El in the FOS, that's what I expect from Kryptonian English.
It was just wrong for Kara to say 'that's what happens when you touch my stuff'. I feel like the writers have sold out - let's get a hot girl to play supergirl, give her a skimpy outfit an attitude and hip speech.
I almost expect next week, Kara will roll up to the Kent farm with a car with rims and hydraulics that she has stolen as she is such a badass and her to say to Clark 'where my b*tches at, fo shizzle'

I still haven't got over the fact that she left Krypton to go look after Kal-El. Kal-El of Krypton was sent to Earth because Krypton was about to explode and he himself barely made it off. This was due to the Red star imploding to a dwarf white star which blew up Krypton. Kara Zor-El is the last survivor of Argo City of the planet Krypton, which had survived the explosion of the planet and had drifted through space. When the inhabitants of the colony are slain by Kryptonite, Kara is sent to Earth by her father Zor-El to be raised by her cousin Kal-El, known as Superman.
AlMiles change the mythology to where Krypton's inhabitants blew it up in a civil war instead of the Red Sun implosion. And so now Kara was on a mission to protect Kal-El? So is this why didn't she know about the implosion if she left? TPTB should have left the Supergirl mythology as it was in Argo City as in the comic book.

That's a definite awesome episode one of the best by far imho. The whole 'clone Lana' spoiler made me fear the worst, such as a fake Lana running around or doing Lana's bidding. I figured the Lana storyline was pretty much going to the dumps after that spoiler. But they did it PERFECTLY. That Lex/Lana scene was great, I can't get over how good it was. I liked the whole flashback thing and how the clone was never really alive (so Lana didn't kill anyone). Even though we all kinda knew Lex cloned her, when Lana finally said it and it showed the clone, it kinda hits you. (Lana - "You cloned me...") Maybe faking your own death over a false pregnancy is a little extreme, but discovering that your husband made a clone of you...now that's a pretty good reason to do what Lana did. And then Lex offering to die and Lana being not able to do it was good too. I was afraid she'd be a little too dark after what the producers hinted at, but no, Lana has not gone to the dark side yet. And also, that scene was the best played out of the whole episode. It was nice to see some real acting...after Kara.

Yup it sure get confusing when Kara didn't know what happen to Krypton. They should have stick to the comic's plot I prefer it better.

waaaaayyyyy better than Bizzaro for sure. I like Supergirl, though I'm still confused about that crystal thingy. the worst part of this episode was Lana & her clone, and Lex. eww. I was yelling at the TV, seriously. down with Lana. the flying of Supergirl looked better than it did in the director's cuts (yay for technology!)
anywho, this episode was pretty good, I gave it an 8.

Overall, good episode. I agree it was a lot better than Bizzaro.
Well, looks like Lana's back whether I like it or not. I like that she's sticking up for herself when it comes to Lex and whatnot but I have to admit I miss the Lana from the earlier seasons. You know, like when she wasn't pointing a gun at people's chest...
Besides the Lana stuff, I really like where this season's going. Tom's definitely doing great, an Allison is just amazing. I'm really looking forward to this season.

Okay. Your opinion, though you should give her a few episodes to really fall into character, remember Justin Hartley as Oliver Queen? Not until Arrow did he really fall into his role.
Still HATE the fact that she FLYs before Clark!!
That is a little weird that she flies but not Zod's generals or Brainiac...even Zod flew. I'll give you that.
Another lame wha-huh... Her immediate grasp of English and popular culture... as stupid as the Mexican boy with the California accent from "Subterranean." American T.V. my ****.
Absolutely fair point with the Mexican kid...not so much with Kara. As stated before, she could have learned English and all her knowledge about Earth on the ship. In fact, I'm sure that's what happened. Remember, it was a few years between when Clark was sent from Earth and when he landed, as Johnathan and Martha find a boy of about 3, and he was just an infant when he was sent away.
But if they are going to go down this cheesy path at least they should make the effects up to the usual standards. The scenes with her powers and flight looked sub par. Goofy. Stupid.
[b]It might not have been as exciting as when Clark flew, but it was still better than Lois and Clark's flying. And, they don't have the budget of Superman Returns. For what they had, they did a fairly good job.
Lois and Chloe at the Planet... interesting. (I really wished I liked Lois more, since they are destined to force her and Clark together at some point.) But at this point I don't feel ANY chemistry between TW and ED.
You must not be watching the same show I am. TW and ED have tons of chemistry. It's awesome seeing them in a scene. And it's not really "destined" to force them together when they ARE together in the comics, and in every other medium
The Lex and Lana confrontation seemed a little rushed... anti-climatic.
[b]Yeah, it was. It was stupid of them.
Ever watch 24? Season 4 at the end, Jack faked his death so that he wouldn't be killed by someone in Logan's adminstration or be tortured by the Chinese. Only 4 other people knew he was alive, and Season 5 started out by those 3 being attacked. Two were killed, one severely injured, and the other one was chased around town before Jack could save her. Had others known he was alive, they would have been targeted too. So, there is actually a reason for not telling loved ones you're still alive: to protect them. I get Lana's reasons why she did it, and I don't have a problem with it.
The preview for next week is VERY alarming. What the hell do they mean by "the Lana that left is not the Lana that returns"?! It BETTER be a figure of speech.
Well, we'll find out, won't we?
They write out Martha... have Super-Bimbo flying around... AND make Lana a clone... we're getting close to a deal-killer here.
[b]Story-wise, there really wasn't anything left for Martha. And, I think Annette knew that and wanted out.
Of course... the reality is... I'll watch ANY episode that features TW as Clark. I could watch him load hay into the truck for an hour and call it a good show.
[b]I'll keep watching it too, and I guess while you're hating it, I'll be enjoying it.
Anyone know how Kara came to be sent to earth like Clark... to "watch out" for him... but she didn't know that Krypton was gone. That makes no sense.
Again, we'll find out.
The reason Clark was sent away was to save him because they knew the planet was doomed. How could she be sent away too and not know. For what other reason did she think Jor-El and Lara would send their toddler to another galaxy?!
See above.

Ok, does anybody agree with me that Jor-el speaks in flippin ridddles, when you hear him talk he does not know Kara or her dad, then he says that they are both dangerous and evil...I'm confused???
I also liked how the end set up all those plots: a possible bad Kara, the government having the crystal, Lex looking for Kara, and, of course, Clark beginning his training.
But I REALLY DO NOT LIKE THE NEW EDITOR OF THE PLANET!!!!
He really needs to get a serious attitude check...Poor Chloe, I hope that she will not have to live in Lois's shadows, from the very beginning, she NEVER - EVER wanted to go into journalism...go figure, have to stay with the Clark and Lois arc. But I guess the new editor has to have the old Perry White editor attitude, if you want to have a good paper. Well, hope that the next episode is good, well we shall soon see.

I don't care about the mythos at this point - that's clear, since I'm now advocating Chlois! What I care about is seeing a classic character butchered for several years by writing that turned her into a bimbo, the better to glorify TPTB's 'own' creation, Chloe, who was imbued with the classic character's personality - then, as a final insult, to see her introduced to her career not because of her intellect and skills, but because a chauvinistic creep has the hots for her.
And on top of it all, the longsuffering character TPTB had so encouraged viewers to love, to root for, to see as our Everywoman, not only sees her dreams crushed by her own cousin, she gets abuse on top of it, along with lawsuit-quality sex discrimination. One thing viewers have NOT wanted to see - have even feared from Lois's initial introduction several seasons ago - is precisely what is happening now. Maybe TPTB want to see Lois and Chloe competing, because they view all women as competitive biatches who cannot ever take the high road and support each other - but WE don't. At most, I think many of the viewers who have stuck by this show for six years wanted to see Chloe inspire Lois (and Clark) to pursue journalism by her example and encouragement. This solution is pure sexist claptrap - and yes, disgusting.

You say "butchered", I say "wonderfully written and different." Yes, you're right, we should feel bad for Chloe, as this clearly wasn't a good episode to her. They don't have to be highly competitive, just friendly competition. You guys always seem to assume the worst, and I assume for the best. We don't know what's going to develop yet, so why grumble about something we don't know yet. Have some faith in TPTB. It seems like so many people dislike or hate them, and I don't see why. I think they're doing a fantastic job and a completely fresh take on a classic character. What's wrong with that? It's not the comics; it's an AU.

You think making Lois into a bimbo is 'wonderfully written and different'? I'll go along with the different... but otherwise, it's an insult to a classic, strong, intelligent female character.
I would have been fine with introducing Lois to the Planet as an accomplished, fiery glimpse of her post-Smallville self. I would have been fine with a "friendly," competitive relationship arising between her and Chloe at that point.
But that is not what happened, apparently. Lois was introduced as yet another injustice for Chloe, and no matter what she does from here on out, Lois's entire career as a journalist will be tainted by the way she got hired. It is a situation that, in order for TPTB to not be viewable as soulless jerks, Chloe must win - but we all know that, without Chlois, Chloe will not win this one. So Everywoman gets the shaft again - and that is so contrary to the American ideals that permeate everything we love about Superman.

I don't think of her as a "bimbo." There's all this complaint about her being a "bimbo," and yet I don't see it. Sure, she has better sex appeal than Chloe, but that doesn't make her a bimbo, which btw means "A physically attractive woman who lacks intelligence" (taken from Wiktionary). She is physically attractive, sure, but she's also smart. You telling me she wasn't smart for getting that the numbers that Prototype gave her were coordinates? I certainly didn't understand what they were. If any regular on the show could be called a bimbo, I'd give that more to Lana than Lois. And, it wasn't fair to Chloe. Guess what? Life isn't fair. Unfair things will happen all the time. So let's see what Chloe does with this. Who knows, it could be the best thing in the world for her. Lois's career won't be tainted; I doubt it'll be remembered how she got hired, or if it is, it'll be a laugh. She'll be a world-class famous reporter, and it won't matter how she initially got her foot in the door. For crying out loud, people, wait to see what happens! You're acting as though you know what will happen, and you don't. You may have an idea, but you don't KNOW what will happen. I think Lois will prove herself.

10-07-2007, 09:20 AM
I am glad TPTB are making an effort to de-bimbofy Lois. But the way she has been written to this point is of a 'kill me now rather than force me to think!' intellectual lightweight and underachiever who would somehow grow into her post-Smallville (and on Smallville, decidedly Chloe-ish) personality. I waited patiently for this to happen, even embraced the idea of perhaps Chloe inspiring Lois to become more than she was - to watch Lois catch fire as a journalist and pursue the field with vigor. And then, eventually, to get a job at the Planet based on a story she'd written, or on her extraordinary achievements at the rag she was leaving. Anything but this.
And yes, anyone who sleeps their way to the top - or who even has that supposition cast their way - is forever tainted by it, whether she then 'proves' herself or not. It isn't legal in contemporary American society, and in most businesses it isn't tolerated. It definitely isn't the way that viewers want to see Lois Lane gain her career as a reporter.
As for 'life not being fair', the problem is, again, that Chloe is Everywoman - and she has already been shafted many, many times. Viewers relate to Chloe and root for her more than any other character on the show - more than Clark, even. Check out all those Chlois threads if you don't believe me.
When TPTB poop on Everywoman, they poop on all of us. For Chloe to be beaten fairly would be tolerated - but for this situation to happen, any victory on Lois's part is ultimately tainted as well. It isn't a fair fight, because it didn't begin with a level playing field. Maybe people like to see American values thwarted on evening soaps - but not on a Superman show.

After positive fan reaction to Super-Girl, the first recurring and most familiar version of Supergirl, Kara Zor-El, debuted in 1959. Kara Zor-El first appeared in Action Comics #252 (May 1959) written by Otto Binder. Like Supergirl was a teen-age female version of an adult male super-hero, wearing a costume that was identical to the older character other than substituting a short skirt for tights.
Action Comics #285 (February 1962 which is 24 years after Superman was created), Supergirl is introduced to the world. Art by Curt Swan.Kara Zor-El is the last survivor of Argo City of the planet Krypton, which had survived the explosion of the planet and had drifted through space. When the inhabitants of the colony are slain by Kryptonite, Kara is sent to Earth by her father Zor-El to be raised by her cousin Kal-El, known as Superman. Fearing that she might not be recognized by Superman, Kara's parents provide a costume based on the Man of Steel's own.
On Earth, Kara acquires super-powers identical to Superman's and adopts the secret identity of Linda Lee, an orphan at Midvale Orphanage. She conceals her blonde hair beneath a brunette wig and functions as Supergirl only in secret, at Superman's request, until she can gain (in his opinion) sufficient control of her powers. After being adopted by Fred and Edna Danvers, Superman decides his cousin is ready to begin operating openly as Supergirl.
In her secret identity, Linda attends Midvale High School as Linda Lee Danvers. In later years, after graduating from Stanhope College, she changes careers several times, holding jobs in student counseling, news reporting, and acting in a TV soap opera. She also attends college in Chicago. Kara has many boyfriends, including Richard (Dick) Malverne, Jerro the merboy from Atlantis, and member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, Brainiac 5. She does, however, shun serious commitments, putting her super-career first.
Supergirl's secret identity is a closely held secret and is known only to Superman, her foster parents, and the Legion of Super-Heroes, of which she serves as a member for a time. Like all Kryptonians, Supergirl is vulnerable to kryptonite.
One way DC demonstrated the epic nature of its 12-issue limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths (April 1985-March 1986) was through the deaths of important characters. In issue #7 (October 1985), Supergirl bravely sacrifices her life to save her cousin and the multiverse from destruction. When Superman continuity rebooted after the Crisis on Infinite Earths, DC editorial felt that Superman should be the sole survivor of Krypton, resulting in Kara being removed from continuity. Unlike a number of other characters who are shown dying in the Crisis, no one remembers Kara dying or even ever having existed.
So wherever you came up with that idea is just that......your idea, and is not what defines Clark Kent/Superman.

And to prove your point I think your supposed to have a degree in Journalism to get a job as an ace reporter. This hack Gabriel Grant was hacking on Chloe when she's just a 2nd year student in college and she is currently mentoring at the Planet to become an ace reporter. Yeah tptb blew that one too.

His growing up, I don't think Kara is important.
His overall humanity and character, though, I think very well could be, for reasons stated above. So, I guess I agree with different aspects of both of your posts.
And, Vatusia, you make some good points, but for one, Lois hasn't slept with Grant (and I don't think she will) and for another, I still think she can overcome any predispositions people may have on her being hired. And, she has been shafted, but how many times has it been in some part her fault? I can recall several times. She got, to use the phrase, in bed with the Luthors and she suffered because of it. She had become complacent in her job at the Planet instead of striving to improve herself. It's like she was just glad to be at the Planet, instead of striving to become top reporter. So, yes, somethings were actually her fault. Doesn't make it fair, but it was her fault.

Where has all this Chloe has become complacent in her job at the Planet nonsense come from??
Grant says it and people have just lapped it up like it's the God given truth when it is not.
Chloe has worked damn hard in that job. She was given the opportunity to work her way up from the bottom and that's exactly what she was doing. She has not lost her drive or chase for a good story and in fact she has covered many a good story such as the water gossip girl. The only reason she was covering boring stories was because that was her job, that's what she was given to cover. In time she would be able to move up the rungs of the ladder and become the investigative reporter she wants to become. She is not covering run of the mill stories because she has become complacent. Grant was talking complete and utter sh*te and people who know the Chloe character should realise this

Well to someone like Grant it could come across like she's become complacent. Think about it, she's still involved with all the crazy stuff that goes on in Smallville and even now around the world. But she can't report on it now because she's keeping Clark and the entire JL's secrets. She's got so much going on that is news worthy but she can't report on it like she used to would've in a hearbeat during highschool. That certainly would come across as complacent to someone who had only followed her writing career and knew nothing about her personal life.

The fact that we haven't seen her really go after a story since at least S5. I'm thinking of in Exposed when someone said "I'm looking for a reporter" and Chloe said, "Well, I'm a reporter" and she then investigated the story about the corrupt Senator. What's she done since then? She does obits and weddings, she answers the phone for the tip line, and other low-rung stuff. If that's her job, sure, she should be doing that, but she should be trying to do more. I'm thinking of Jimmy from Lois and Clark. He was always trying to prove himself to Perry as a photographer and journalist. He did the research Lois and Clark gave him, but he also tried to do stuff on his own, and we really haven't seen Chloe doing that. He said it in a harsh way, but he was right: Chloe HAD gotten complacent. It's the sad truth.

Nah, I just don't buy it. What about the story she was going to do on Lex before he threatened her. That would have been a pretty major piece. Also her story on the Dark Avenger woman and Green Arrow.
You are translating the fact that Chloe's job at the DP has not been covered much in the show into complacency in her job - which is just not true. Chloe couldn't really cover the same type of meteor freak stories she did at the Torch at the DP, it's not that kind of paper.
How could Chloe not covering the JL & Clark's adventures come across as complacent to Grant - he doesn't know anything about that. Also to be honest Grant wouldn't really know who the hell Chloe was in real life - she's in such a small insignificant job in a massive newspaper the new editor wouldn't really know anything about her. All of what Grant said was total BS designed to bring Lois on board in what is one of the writer's lamest storylines ever.
If they really wanted to bring Lois to the DP, it would have been better to have her follow up on the Wes Keenan story and report something newsworthy to make Lex squirm then Grant could have talked her into joining the DP. A much better premise than undermining Chloe to get her in the door.
Also I thought that Chloe was a full time student and worked part-time at the DP. Where did this night class rubbish come from?? I have definitely seen her at her dorm saying 'i've got to run I have a class' in the middle of the day not at night. Or did I miss when she changed to night classes?

Actually Kara did just that. I am VERY familar with the Silver Age Supergirl, owning not only her run as back-up in Action Comics but her entirte run as the lead for Adventure Comics, her FIRST series issues 1-10, the entire run of Superman Family, her guset appearances in Supermna's various magazines in the 70s and 80s(Action, Superman, world's Finest, DC Comics Presents, Justice League of America,Legion of Superheroes) and her final series 23 issue run as well as the aforementioned Crisis on Infinte Earths. and I am very well of Marv Wolfman's and John Byrne's decision that when Superman was "rebooted" - Supergirl (as well as ALL other Kryptoninas) was elimanted so as the make Superman's status as LAST Son of Krypton truely legitmate, Kara?Supergirl was consistently presented by ALL the writers as not only IMPORTANT to Superman but central to him, Yes He had his own stories the overwhelming majority without Kara (she was treated as a major charcter in her own right and kept sepearte - many fans MYSELF included clamored for DC to include Supergirl in the JLA but were always turned down whereas NEW charcters such as Firestorm WERE included) Superman always showed Kara brotherly affection and a huge releief to him with her help and prescence whenever they were presented together
Justice League of America(1st series) #132-134;Superman(Vol 1) issues #307-309, 312-314, DC Comics Presents# 28-29(ESPECIALLY) are just a FEW examples of how DC Comics writers showed Supermna's need for his cousin to shape him. I could keep[ going but I think you get the point. while I am not saying the Kents had nothing to do with Superman (they were the ones who gave him his morality and has been proven over the last 80 years, Kara was just as important as she was his connection to his KRYPTONIAN roots

I honestly wasn't aware Chloe had resumed classes. She said in Zod, or Sneeze maybe, that classes would be canceled out for a while due to Black Thursday, and that's the last we've heard of her attending classes. She still lives at the Talon in Phantom, and as far as we know, she still lives at the Talon now. It's like classes have been on hiatus until further notices.
Lois was covering Green Arrow, not Chloe. Which story about Lex are you talking about? 33.1? I don't believe she was ever planning on making that into a story. The Dark Avenger...are you talking about Angel of Vengeance? Okay then. Since Vengeance. That's still S5. That's still over a year since she did any active reporting of her own.

What Grant said is not the way it is. Characters can say things but they are not neccessarily true. Some people are agreeing with what Grant said but the majority of people don't.
What happens on the show is what happens yes, but when the writers throw out a crap script turn in order to further the plotline it's no surprise that people balk at it.
If Clark suddenly hooked up with some random girl and told Lana that he only ever wanted to get into her pants and now he's done that he's realised she's just too boring - I think the SV fans would be upset/annoyed - and rightly so.

Chloe was going to break the story about Lex transferring Belle Reve patients into 33.1 and conducting experiments on them. She had the story all typed out to submit but then Lex came in and threatened her that her life would be in danger if she released the story. That was in season 6 and a pretty major story she had investigated by herself. She was prepared to risk going to prison to get the story out there. Chloe also did the story on the gossip girl woman played by Tori Spelling. Most of season 6 was focused on Clark, Clexana, Clana, Lex, JL & the phantoms not on Chloe so you can't really say that Chloe has been complacent - there just hasn't been any focus on what Chloe has been doing.
What has Lois investigated?? A barn door falling out of the sky, green arrow and the corrupt senator - which she didn't publish in the end as Wes Keenan's body went AWOL. The whole Wes Keenan story has since been forgotten. She's not really looked into anything that hasn't dropped into her lap. She's not ready for a Pullitzer prize just yet.

And I don't recall her reporting on the death of the gossip columnist.

Good bits: the Kara and Clark interactions were very solid. Lots of room for doubt on what's going on with her backstory: its not as though you can trust the fortress, but given the recent version of Sg in the comics, I wouldn't be surprised if Kara has been programmed somehow to be a threat to Clark.
I liked that although Clark can't fly, he can still knock Kara down to earth. That kinda indicates to me that he's subconsciously using his powers to tether himself to the earth: he's not afraid of flying because of heights, but because it means he's well and truly not human.
Nice to have a new villain: a secret project sponsored by the US government. That makes it even harder for Clark to deal with than LuthorCorp.
On the so-so front, I think they wrapped up the Lana mystery too fast. I would have preferred to see her struggle on her own for a little while: actually learn some independence. I do wish she'd pulled the trigger; a foregone conclusion she would not.
Willing to watch and see what's going on at the Daily Planet. Re Chloe, from watching S6 reruns, she definitely had a byline from Subterranean. Looked like front page, below the fold. But it wouldn't be too surprising if she's got cautious and lacking her spark post-Progeny because she's got Lex in her sites and knows he has her in his. I think they're playing this up though as the sacrifice Chloe is paying for being in the know on Clark's secrets: if she wasn't his confidante, she would fit in with Grant like nobody's business. Maybe he knows that, and is using Lois to get her back into fighting form. Good room here for dramatic conflict.

Progeny.
Lex threatens her with all the crimes Bad (and sexy) Mind Controlled Chloe committed. That doesn't deter her... so he threatens her (in a low voice that is almost a purr) with "Plan B" something creepy and evil that will make prison look like a picnic I think he said. He left it up to Chloe's imagination. I'm ashamed to admit that mine went a little naughty with that.

Hmm... I gave it an 8.
Down points for bringing Lana back. It just seems so... forced, almost like they weren't sure if Kristin would sign on for a seventh season. So they kinda let her die without actually showing it (remember, they showed us just a big bang, if they already were planning the clone story back then, they should've just showed us a glimpse of the clone in the car right before the explosion) and now they we're forced to bring her back like this. Even throughout "Bizarro" there was hardly ever a mention of Lana perhaps being alive until the very end, when they just showed us she was. And Lex was already focusing on his "angel". And now in this episode Lex is saying he'll leave Lana alone. It really makes sense you know. The writers never had any Lexana planned for this season. It will probabaly be more something Like Lexara. I bet they will try to squeeze Lana into Clarks flying lessons, or probabaly more into his disability to fly, like he should really let go off his childhood love for this earthgirl, to be able to fly. Free from the earthgirl, free from earth.
So... no more Lexana, probabaly no more Clana frome somewhere halfway the season and thank God no Clara... that would be weird, having him find out halfway through the season that he was her cousin, after getting a major crush on her, instead of this episode.
Anyway.
Shorters:
- Grant was right, Chloe did seem to be a bit... without lust for journalism lately. Of course dying and coming back to life will make a person depressive.
- Bet ya Lois' daddy is behind the stolen space ship. Would give a nice spin to her investigations.
- Where's Lionel? Still no sign, no clue. Nothing. Nada.
- Bring back Martha!!! Kara needs some motherly love.
1 point up :D for fortress of solitude. Yeah, finally, Clark wants to train. So we will see him use of lot of his powers in and around FoS. Yeah and his training starts with... "Kara... she's dangerous"
... Huh? That's no training! That's a warning and just too cliché. 1 point down.

i hope they don't make Kara an enemy of sorts in this season and I hope that the producers of the show will keep her role up to next season. and what's up with the "Kara can't be trusted?" line of Jor-El? obviously I don't like where this is going. Point is I really like Kara to remain on the show, and I really like Laura Vandervoort!!! she's really fit to play the role. And Yeah bring Martha kent back!!!

You guys may want Mama Kent back, but is there honestly any story left to tell with her? Maybe the occasional thing, but is there enough for at least 13 episodes? I don't think there is. They made the right choice, because story-wise right now, there isn't anything for Mama Kent to do.

Did not enjoy this episode. It entirely felt very forced and contrived and nothing at all like the "before he was Superman" kind of show the first 3 seasons (and even the 5th season) were.
The whole Kara thing feels way too rushed. She just woke up and suddenly she has all of Clark's powers plus she can fly? I mean, I guess she had the benefit of knowing she would be powerful beforehand, but I still have a hard time believing that what took Clark years to discover (and this is not including the 14 years that took place before the first season) only took her, what, hours to figure out? And the assault against Lois and Clark at the beginning just rang untrue. Maybe if she didn't know her own strength I could buy it, but she knew what she was doing. If it was meant to foreshadow any future threat from her, they could have done it better.
The whole thing about the ship and especially the nuclear self-destruct was just awful. I mean, what if some bear or something started pawing at it and accidentally triggered it? Krypton was supposed to be the most advanced civilization in the galaxy (or at least a galaxy since apparently you have to cross 26 or some odd number to reach Earth) and they can't conceive that landing a space-ship on a primitive world might attract curiosity that wouldn't necessarily deserve a nuke to make 'em back off?
And what was up with the Grant character? They have a show full of actors nearly 10 years older than the characters they're portraying, and they bring in some guy who looks like he's 15 to play the Daily Planet's editor! No way would the newspaper read in more countries than any other paper would hire someone so young (and who apparently believes in the power of tabloid stories). And what happened to Carrie Fisher?
And I don't think I should really have to mention Lana. This show would be so different and so so so much better if they had just left her dead in the 100th episode. And this whole plot with Lex that's been dragging on with Lex is ridiculous. That whole scene I was just screaming out soap opera's with less ridiculous romantic plot twists. Her clone, whatever. Stupidest thing ever.
I really wish Smallville had kept the quality from the earlier seasons and most of season five. Its just a joke now.

This was a decent episode.
It had elements I really liked. It was great to get some backstory into the House of El. I also really liked the Clois in this episode. It was cool to see them working together and some forshadowing there. I also really liked the discussion on why Clark couldn't fly yet. It also seems like we may get a season long villain with the intro of the US Homeland guy. Makes things more interesting. I also really liked the fact that Lois was offered a job @ the DP resulting in the beginning of a family rivalry. Chloe's "excuse me" and the look on her face when Lois was hired was priceless.
So far however, I am not a big fan of LV as Kara. While the effects are great for the flying scenes, her line delivery is terrible!!! Everytime she mis-pronounced Kal-El it made me cringe. She is definately nice to look at. But her line delivery is so terrible. I am hoping that she gets better/grows on me because a majority of the episodes are going to be centered around here.
One thing that also bugs me is how they are giving Lex yet another mission of self discovery. This time with Kara's picture. First it was the Porsche. Then it was his plane. Now it is Kara and the picture. The Porsche I didn't mind because it was ongoing. But the plane lasted for two episodes, and I have a feeling this will be short lived as well. If they can actually have Lex search for the truth the whole season, and have it be ongoing, then it could be good. But if it is as short lived as the plane storyline in S4, then it will suck.
I am undecided on the stuff with Lana. Could be good, could be bad. I still wish that she had just stayed dead. That was giving Clark a reason to leave Smallville, and more focus in general on other aspects of the show. But since we all knew she had to come back, the least they could do is make it interesting, which is what they are trying to do at least. That is why I am still undecided.
I would probably give this episode an 8...maybe a 9. Overall this is a good season so far. Already better than S6 in my opinion.

I love the idea of Kara on Smallville, but the execution hasn't been that good so far. Granted, it's only been one episode, but I'm not in love with the casting (she looks older than Clark does, and she's too tall), and the writing on last week's episode was BRUTAL! So much boring exposition, people standing around talking - what about revealing her past on Krypton as they both try to stop some villain. And her dialogue about Krypton in particular - basically it was just like Earth, except 23 galaxies away. C'mon writing staff - show through her behavior and interaction how different it was. Was it scientific to the point that no one could touch each other, like Byrne's revamp, or was it an ice planet, like some recently have suggested - show us in the way she relates to her new world. The fact that she actually remembers Krypton is different to the mythos - use it.
average. very average.

Well… what can i say about the episode? I could say: it’s the best episode I’ve never seen before.
I’ve watched it twice and I LOVE IT.
MISSLANE REVIEW;
- Chlois Theory: oh my goddess, I adore when Lois Lane says: “I AM NOT CHLOE SULLIVAN, AND I NEVER WILL BE”
Thanks Lois!!!!, I thought of all the fans who wanted “chlois theory”. Lois LANE is the best, and as the editor said: she is the synonym of daily planet. All these seasons watching Chloe as best reporter and Clark Kent’s partner in the torch.
Well, it’s time for the real story and Lois Lane is the best as reporter. I am a huge Chloe Sullivan fan, but she will be always in second place in the planet!!
However I adore watching them as partners. Chlois comes back!
- Supergirl: I have to say that writers did a wonderful job here. All the details are amazing and complete. Just as well they don’t decide to write the supergirl story when lex luthor creates supergirl with lana lang’s memories hehehe.
I prefer the story which writers are writing: Kara is older than clark, and She has more power than kal-el!! However, what kara doesn’t remember is she has to kill Kal-El, but she isn’t agree inside herself.
Anyway, I am afraid it will happen this way.
So, I love the actress who plays Kara, I hope she has another identity such as Clark Kent!!
The kara played in smallville is the same than in the comics. She has to learn a lot of things, because supergirl is a good girl but she has a dark side too. And you can watch it in smallville.
I loved to see that Chloe doesn’t like Kara very much, it happens in the comics, too. Kara zor-el isn’t welcome to clark’s friends.
I also am happy clark’s not alone anymore and he can discover something else about krypton, I love it!
- Please Lana, no: … after watching this good episode I can’t help thinking of Lana. I mean, will the episode be good when lana comes back again? I don’t know why but the episode where there’s clana, isn’t good and brakes Clark’s destiny or his toughts about being superman in a future.
When I think of Clana, I hate the tv show. Because after watching “Kara”, I got depressed when I think of Clana, again… I’d like to see Lana as best friend, such as Chloe. Without love feelings, I mean.
And when I SEE CLANA, I can’t help thinking of KRISTIN. She doesn’t like Lana Lang as clark’s girlfriend, and it’s a pity she plays the sweet Lana because Miss Kreuk deserves something better than the sweet, delicate little lana lang. Because the triangle: clark, lana, chloe, the three as friends would be really funny and interesting! What do you think about it?
- Smallville: I hope the rest of episodes are as good as “kara”. I also can’t wait for seeing chloe’s power!!!

Well Miss Lane is obvius that you know nothing about Supergirl from the comics. See post 131 and get the skinny instead of posting something you know nothing about.

What'd she do that contradicts anything about the character? She said she prefers the story they've written for her on Smallville rather than the Lex Luthor clone version (Matrix, I believe?) That's her perogative. Smallville puts their own twists on characters and one can just as well like the Smallville version better than the comics version.

I thought this episode was a good follow-up to the premiere so I gave it a 9. Unfortunately I did not get to see the end of it when Clark is talking to Jor-El in the FOS. The one thing that bothered me is the cheesy way Lois gets the job at the Planet. You would think that a soon-to-be nobel prized reporter would not get her job writing sleazy tabloid stories and UFO sightings. Are they trying to edge Chloe out or what? Other than that, the episode was great.

I really liked Kara in this episode but I'm not happy about how Chloe is getting treated. She has paid her dues only to get stepped on by Lois. I'm a big fan of Lois but it stinks that Chloe is getting the shaft again.

There were things I liked....Clark grabbing Kara's boot as she attempts to fly away and slamming her down. That seemed a pretty efficient way of handling the job.
Things I didn't like....could not figure out what the heck happened with Kara and the ship and it disappearing. What...what...WHAT was going on with all that???
I suspect something more than the obvious is going to happen between Chole and Grant, but I think I'll say more in the speculations forum. I am very new to posting so I am still reading up on all the do's and don'ts.

I think this has been the best episode of the season so far. It was humorous and I think it was a good intro for Kara, who I really like. Plus it led to my favorite thing ever for the rest of my life:
Lana: I laid out the bread crumbs waiting for the wolf to come knocking on the door.
Viewers at home: WTF, mate?
Lex: Lana, I knew you were smart. I didn't know you were brilliant.
Viewers at home: Vomit.

This was another very well done episode of Smallville. I loved the fiirst encounter between Clark (aka Superman) and Kara (aka Supergirl) He caught up with her at an elementary school and sped off while holding her. They came to a complete stop some miles away from the school. She said, "Humans aren't supposed to run that fast!" It was also cool the way she tried to fly off and Clark prevented her from leaving. He grabbed a hold of her leg, she tried to kick him with the other and he ended up power bombing her on the ground. Superb episode!

Kara's introduction was done superbly from the few shots in "Bizarro" to here in "Kara".
Firstly I liked how Clark was going to leave Smallville and "head up north". He and Lois had a good little moment there.
The Kara moments were just awesome when she would grab a little kid and try to tell if the toddler was Kal-El. Clark pulling Kara down when she tries to fly off and when she opens the elevator doors. "We don't have time to wait ancient technology" :D:DD:
Loved the moment where Clark taught Kara on how to use her super hearing. I think Smallville would be better if Clark would give this kind of mentoring to every superhero a little more. After all, he should be the hero inspiring, not the other way around.
The episode would get a 10 but I really didn't care how they got Lois into journalism at the Daily Planet. S8 handled Clarks career leap better even though it was a complete 360 from the S7...Oh wait...S7, that explains it.
Anyways, "Bizarro" was fantastic, "Kara" was great!!

Ehhh... I have never been a big fan of Season 7, and a big part of that, unfortunately, is Kara. She's not one of my favorite characters, really, though I guess this was a fairly good introduction to her character. I think Laura Vandevoort definitely grew as an actress as the show progressed, though, and I imagine she would have gotten even better if she'd continued on into later seasons, even though we all know now that she never got that chance. I also wasn't a huge fan of how randomly Lois was hired at the Planet, and how condescending Grant Gabriel was to my favorite tiny blonde. Lois was only really bitten by the journalism bug briefly into Season 6, whereas it's a dream Chloe had pursued since she was a child. She worked extremely hard to climb that ladder, and it was like Lois was offered the same opportunity on a golden platter for just a few articles for the Metropolis Inquisitor. All in all, I'll give this episode 7 flashy red spaceships out of 10!

Anybody who clocks Lois is A-Okay with me. Actually, I thought the actress playing Kara was on the weak side, but hey! Good news. She didn't bore me for 22 episodes.
