Taken From NBC's wiki page:

Cestodapetitus
The tapeworm's appetite. Tapeworms, flatworms some other things. If you teach one to run a maze for food then grind one up and feed it to a second worm, the second worm will run the maze through the first time, having gained the ability from the consumed first worm.

It is theorized that Sylar's ability is similar to the tapeworm's in that he gains the abilities of his victims by devouring their brains. It is assumed that this is what Dr. Surresh meant when he called Sylar a parasite.

...Interesting.

NBC's wiki page had a TON of weird stuff last time I was there, but maybe its cleaned up. I'll check it out.

Nice avatar, by the way. Very apropriate.

Thanks for the avy compliment.

I like the NBC wiki becuase it isnt suppose to be edited by the general public. That worm theory is pretty neat as well. I have never heard of that before and as of right now it is the only plausible explanation!

i dunno if he does eat the brains or not. but...i do love your theory & linking it to the tapeworm, it actually seems logical.

i don't really have my own theory on how Sylar obtains the powers, but it obvious has something to do w/ the 'heroes' brain.

my question is...would the writers, creators, producers of Heroes make Sylar a cannibal???

Is that real? With the tapeworms?

I thought Sylar dissected the brains, as if they were mechanical like the watches.

He got the idea from Chandra or something early on when he said that everything in the body is controlled by the brain.

Yeah i mean i kind of liked the fact that Sylar was really smart and knew where to find that part of the brain, take it out, and fuse it into his DNA or something like when Noah said how he thought all those infusions to his DNA made him crazy. But i mean the writers can do whatever they want and i mean the tapeworm theory or whatever does sound sweet i just don't want it to be simply eating a part of someones brain...i don't know it just makes me feel like it diminishes the cool factor of taking someones powers (personally).

i just want to know how he can 'fuse' the DNA/genes into his brain...i doubt we will see this anytime soon, but hopefully by the late this season or early next (assuming he will be here for season 3).

Sylars ability is to know how things work. The brain is that part that allows people to do that, even more so to eat it as well makes that literally a part of his own body. Since the brain has every little fiber in it if i remember correctly he'll probably just absorb the whole thing into his blood stream and used throughout his body and that way Sylar just needs to know how his own body works to make it work.

lol that was supposed to be very not every. It wouldn't make sense for it to be fiber because than he wouldn't be able to absorb it.

It would make sense that it might require a combo power. Tapeworm & able to figure how things work.

Personally I don't think the writers are gonna admit that Sylar eats the brains as that would make him a real monster, and they want evil, but not as far as Hannibal Lector. Cool as he is.

Think back to when he killed Candice and the 1st victim Brian Davis - Telekinesis. He cracked open the skulls with a blunt object. I can't remember his reaction with the 1st vic, but with Candice, after he had killed her he was surprised that it didn't work. He didn't eat her brain and then try to use her powers. He just knew it didn't take. Maybe it does have something to do with looking at the brain somehow. But then that begs the question still; What does he do with the brain?
