They tied that aspect of his powers into the story long long ago, in a little episode called Perry. ;)

But it is nice to see the return of that aspect of the show, true.

Really, they introduced it in Perry but didn't seem to touch on it again until Nemesis. It's nice to see them placing a much more dramatic emphasis on it. Well done.
