I voted Braniac simply because of his cool and dangerous presentation, but to be honest until he got a streak of good in him Lionel had all of the ones on the list beat hands down.

I would have put lionel and others but i figured id stick to superman related characters that have been in atleast 2 episodes.

Bizarro was good in phantom but he seemed a bit like red K-ish clark so i cant wait to see if he is different in the premiere or not. either way he is still a good character. Brainiac is like lex luthor with powers. extremely smart and can con people but he can kick serious butt.

I voted Brainiac for best over all!!! And I miss the season 2 and 3 Lionel! But for brawn and best ever villian/Clark fight....... Titan gave Clark a pretty good run for his money IMO! I loved that fight!

I went ahead and voted for Lex, because no matter how awesome Bizarro is, Lex is *the* villain of the show. He's the arch-nemesis, using brains instead of brawn to carry out his schemes.

So I love Braniac a lot. He's so intelligent and such a just SINISTER villain. Pure evil. So as far as most evil, he'd be the one.

But "best", to me, is something different. I voted Lex because he is not only incredibly sinister and ruthless, but he's also three-dimensional; he has more sides to him than just evil. I'm so fascinated with his character because of his development. The fact that we saw him as an earnest, kind young man at the beginning of the show and now he's the furthest from that is just so tragic, and makes his evil scenes that much more frightening to me, because they suggest that even the best of us, under properly bad circumstances, could chose the dark side.

I also love the Lex Luthor of the comics, the Lex in "Superman Returns" and "Superman: Doomsday", and the Lex in "Superman Returns"...Lex is just a character who has a human quality deep down, but yet is like the demon to Superman's angel. He's so epic and larger-than-life, and yet he's a human symbol of corporate America.

See, I love that balancing act between over-the-top and pure evil and human. That is a lot of what makes Lex so scary and one of the best villains, in my opinion, of DC Comics.

Now, Lionel would almost be a close toss-up with Lex on the show (back in 1-3 when he was really villainous). I think he definitely should be on this poll, because he kicked a lot of arse back in his day and paved the way for his son's villainy.

I voted Lex, though agree that Lionel shoud have been included. I enjoyed Lex's charcater the most when it was kind of a "grey area" for him (seasons 3 & 4), as opposed to the out-and-out evil now.

P.S.: Welcome to me! :)

I hope Bizarro is better than what we saw in the director's cut. I guess for budget purposes they can't keep his face broken up the entire time. Based on the DC, he acts too much like red-k Clark. I don't see how that raging phantom in Zod & Phantom who was brutally killing people would be interested in Lois. Maybe he was a Kryptonian just like Zod who has desires of the flesh. I just hope they explain it.

Lex hasn't been a "villain" for all that long--the last half of the season, we haven't seen Bizarro enough to make a decision, and why isn't Lionel in this poll? He's very villain-esque.

So it comes down to the wire with Braniac and Zod, both were killed, one comes back. Zod was pure evil, while Braniac was more of a manipulator, both were great villains, but I'll have to go with Braniac.

Brainiac is so much tougher & smarter. And very evil.

But I think the most evil stored in one human(oid) body that we have seen so far is Lionel in season 3 and a few episodes of season 4 (Transference for example). Except if you count evil Lex from Onyx. He was probably the worst. He killed without any regrets. He was evil for the joy of it. Lex will not become that evil because what he will do will be done for his distorted love for Earth & to save it from aliens. SV Lex will work with Superman in the future, but evil Lex from Onyx would never do that. He would destroy the Earth as seen by Cassandra Carver in Hourglass and as feared by the non-evil Lex in Scare.

Well I'd have to say Brianiac probably because I just like the actor. but he was just cunning, how he infiltrated clarks life as his professor, poisoned Clark and healed him to gain his trust. Infected his mom just to manilupate the strong but very simple Clark Kent into doing what he wanted. Also manipulating the dimwitted Clark once again by pretending to be the ghost of his father. He also caused a global blackout that killed thousands. I'm not actually sure if theres another villian who has done something on this scale.

Lex is the best minus his love crazed linfatuation with Lana. That totally messed up last season. What a lame way to break the friendship between Lex and Clark. Bizzaro places a close second and then Braniac followed by Zod. Zodwould have been better if he had no taken over th body of Lex.

Lana.

She's a Witch

She's a murderess

I voted Bizarro because I loved the SV portrayal. I can't abide comic book Bizarro and was so glad that they steered clear of Bizarro speech.

Realistically, I should have voted for Brainiac since I loved that arc, but most of it was just Fine tyring to manipulate Clark to get Zod released. So Brainiac loses marks by working for another villain.

Even in the comics, I don't think I'd put Lex at the top of Superman's enemies: Brainiac and Darkseid get that honour, not to mention the one-timers who can really shake things up at times. Lex is a schemer, thoroughly misguided and amoral, but his evil literally lacks a punch.

I VOTED FOR bIZZARRO because on a power level, he's the best. But really,Brainiac was the best, He MADE season 5, and saved it after the LEX lana, Martha Lionel crap derailed it. Why do TPTB thinkthis is a freaking soap opera and they have to hook up every character?" Destroys the show(on a lot of levels).

I picked Brainiac because Zod and Bizarro weren't really around long enough to make that much of an impression.

But my real choice would be Lionel, especially when he was erasing Lex's memory by electro-shocking him. To risk turning your only son into a vegetable, can't get much more villainous than that!

I don't think Lex really qualifies as a villain at this point because he believes he is doing these (psycho) things for the good of humanity. It's when he doesn't give a hoot about anyone but himself, his goals and desires, that he will become a villain.

When Bizarro next appears, he will probably show up at night and if Clark is in hiding, will threaten to kill one of his friends to draw him out.

But I think next time he shows up, they should have him no longer weakened by the sun at the expense of his mind being permanently messed up and his face being cracked up. That last shot of him flying up after Clark punched him just before MM took him seemed like this would happen. But something tells me they will never do that.

"But my real choice would be Lionel, especially when he was erasing Lex's memory by electro-shocking him. To risk turning your only son into a vegetable, can't get much more villainous than that!"

Agreed. Lionel, at the height of villainy, was incredibly evil. I always find it interesting that he just started out as an uncaring dad and a ruthless business man, and then, as the seasons went on, he just sort of became almost a supervillain. Whenever I watch those old scenes from season three where he electro shocks Lex or poisons his drink, I'm reminded of just how vile this man was, and sometimes am made to wonder, 'just how much can a man this bad actually change'? I guess time will tell, but so far, I go with Martha's theory that Lionel is "honestly making an effort" but still can't be fully trusted.

"I don't think Lex really qualifies as a villain at this point because he believes he is doing these (psycho) things for the good of humanity. It's when he doesn't give a hoot about anyone but himself, his goals and desires, that he will become a villain."

Good point. But keep in mind that Hitler thought what he was doing was for the world's best interest. And you'd consider him a villain, right? So Lex, therefore, can still be a villain even when he thinks in some twisted form that his actions are benefiting mankind. "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" is truly a saying that fits Lex, because ultimately, his intentions become less important, and what's more important, what makes him evil, is the methods he uses to employs those intentions.

I meant Lex doesn't qualify as "Greatest" villain. I'm not an expert on Hitler, but I think he had a very narrow definition of the "world" as far as working for it's best interests. Lex does things in a villainous way, but then, he learned at his father's knee, as it were. He doesn't really know any other way of doing things but Daddy's way.

Hey... we can't vote for Jason Teague? T.T

lol, My vote was for Brainiac/Fine.

Lex is too twisted to be considered a villain, at least for now. Onyx Lex was amazing, but normal Lex won't be like that ever.

Zod was dissapointing. Michael Rosenbaum is an awesome actor, but "saving budget" and using Lex as Zod was insulting to me. The character was evil, cold and confident, but we would have loved to see another actor portraying that.

Bizarro... Who am i seeing? Red Clark? Kal El? Silver Clark? One more time the budget thing. Cheap villain for a season premiere. He's cool but not enough to be the best.

Lionel!
Well, until season 4, i thought he was a marvelous villain, but staff managed to take the character to an unknown place i haven't enjoyed... from an uncaring bastard to a loyal, polite, good dad, jorel oracle?
Unfortunately i think Lionel has been the worst mistake in the last years of smallville, she should have died a long time ago murdered by Lex. I hope we get to see that some day.

And why i chose Marsters' Brainiac?
Well, we got to know him in like 6 episodes, but those were enough to deliver to the public an evil, smart and fresh essence, in the moment smallville needed it.
We had bad love arcs, bad episodes, unfair deaths and boring moments in the season five, and Marsters managed to rescue it somehow, along with some unforgettable episoded.

Overall, we have had good villains but... the closest to a true evil villain would be Brainiac, Lionel and Onyx Lex...
