I'll be taking a trip to vancouver in early April... does anyone know how to go about maybe seeing the sets where they film, meet and greets with any actors (particularly john schneider) or even which part of vancouver they film in? I'm new here so thanks!

Hi there
I was just wondering if anyone knows where in Vancouver the "Metropolis" scenes are shot? I'll be in town for 2 weeks and it'd be neat to walk by.
Thanks!

A bit of both. ^_^
I will definitely take pictures whenever and wherever possible. With any luck maybe I'll even encounter a shoot, although I don't know when and where filming takes place. ^_^

This site details a number of the shooting locations around Vancouver:
http://www.angelfire.com/tv2/totw/filmloc1.html
The main locations that you should recognize are:
The Daily Planet, which is actually the Burrard Building, is located at 355 Burrard Street, Vancouver. Take your time and really look at the building and check out the lobby and the cool revolving door. It is an absolutely gorgeous example of Art Deco and covered in fascinating carvings. While you're at it, walk down to Canada Place which is just a stone's throw away and look at the North Shore Mountains. Man, I sound like a brochure.
The LuthorCorp building, which is right across the street from the Daily Planet at 401 Burrard Street.
Downtown Smallville and the Talon exterior is located at 176th Street and 57th Ave in Cloverdale, BC, about a half hour drive from Vancouver depending on traffic. For the love of god and all that is holy DO NOT drive from Vancouver to Cloverdale on the freeway between 3 PM and 6 PM. There are better things to do with your life than wait in traffic.
Smallville High was originally the Vancouver Technical School at 2600 Broadway, but they moved filming to Templeton Secondary for later part of season one and for all future episodes. Templeton Secondary is located at 727 Temple Drive, Vancouver. Apparently they still have murals of the Smallville crow on the walls even though they haven't filmed there since the end of season four.
Most filming is done at at the Beresford Studios on Beresford Street in Vancouver. I can't remember the address. You can see the studio while on Skytrain if you look for it and sometimes do they shoot outside the studio, such as the back alley Talon shots in Blank and Hidden, which were filmed in the back alley behind the Beresford Studios.
The Kent Farm is a private residence, but they actually have a mailbox and sign over the side entrance with the words, "Kent Farm". When I first saw the farm, I came across it quite by accident as my girlfriend and I were sort of lost in the wilds of Cloverdale looking for her friend's house. I recognized the yellow house immediately but the farm really didn't look the same. PM if you want directions.
Apparently, they are filming scenes for Sneeze at the New Westminster Tank and Boiler Company building in New Westminster right now. They might still be filming there depending on when you plan on visiting. There is a forum discussion about the filming there on K-Site here. (http://www.kryptonsite.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=2345226#post2345226/)
Have fun.

I moved to Calgary in 2002 after living in Vancouver for 14 years so I recognize many of the locations. Interestingly enough, I didn't know Smallville even existed until I moved to Calgary and saw my first episode here. I do recall watching them film at the Vancouver Technical School in the Summer of 2001, but I didn't realize it was Smallville until I recognized the school in a scene. VTS is on Broadway, one of Vancouver's busiest throroughfares, so I am not surprised they moved to Templeton Secondary where it would be much quieter and less disruptive to film.
Now is the perfect time to be in Vancouver if you want to see filming as Vancouver experiences its best weather between July and the end of September. The producers are aware of this and try to film outside as much as possible (AlMiles mention this on one of the DVD commentaries). Once you're into October it tends to be constant rain until March.

Like I said, before I moved to Calgary I saw them filming outside the Vancouver Technical School in the summer of 2001. I didn't know that the they were filming for Smallville at the time as I didn't even know that the show existed until I saw it here in Calgary. If I had I would have paid closer attention.
I travel to Vancouver five or six times a year to visit friends and for work, and during a visit this last spring a friend tipped me off that they were filming downtown on Seymour Street, but when I went down there the next morning to see they were already done. It turns out the scene they were shooting was from Fade, when Clark and Chloe are walking to the courthouse and Clark saves Graham from being hit by the truck. Oh well.
I read somewhere that they were filming for Smallville in downtown Cloverdale recently, and anyone who's been reading the spoilers forum should know about the recent filming in a New West warehouse for the episode Sneeze. A lucky fellow was able to sneak onto the set and watch them film a few scenes with Tom, Kristen and Michael up close and personal.

The outside of the Talon is in Cloverdale and all the "inside" sets are in Vancouver at Beresford Studios.

I believe this website has what you are looking for:
http://www.angelfire.com/tv2/totw/filmloc.html
The show is filmed at Beresford Street studios in Vancouver and apparently they've used the back alley of the studio to fill in for the back alley of the Talon (when Clark loses his memory in Blank and when Chloe is speaking to Gabriel on the phone in Hidden). I also read somewhere that some of the riot scenes for Vessel were filmed on the street in front of the studio, but I can't confirm that. Anyway, if you're curious, walk by the studio and see, maybe you'll get lucky and catch them filming outside.
Also check out the Hollywood North Report:
http://www.hollywoodnorthreport.com/
In their forums they sometimes have scoops on where Smallville will be filming next.

If anyone is interested I think I found it on the map. It looks like the farm is the one on the corner of 248th St. and 8th Ave. On the map it shows it at the corner of 248th and 36th so you have to go south a bit to see it.

I found it on the Satellite image, blown up. It's the 2nd place north of the Border on the left side of 248th. One driveway goes to the House, and the other Driveway goes to the Barn, where you can see Clark playing Basketball;)
Wow! The Beresford Studio is so big! You can see all of the trailers, it's by the Sky Train. Tom's SUV is there, he must be shooting today.:)

That's very impressive!!! I lived in Vancouver for two years and found a quarter of those places. It took me a week of basically driving up and down every street around Langley to find the Kent farm. I literally had given up and was on my way back downtown when I found it, lol.

Yes I've tried that but it doesn't actually give me a view at street level...it only lets me see an ariel view still.
My father once was looking at a different locationof a house and he had a view of the house as if you were standing on the street in front of it and you could turn all the way around and see other houses that were across the street too. I asked how he did that and unfortunately he couldn't remember....Bad memory from a stroke:(

If you've got enough pictures from a certain area, you can upload them to photosynth and create a virtual 3d environment. Perhaps a joint effort of everyone who can share some photos from there. Its a long shot, but it can be very interesting.

I just recently returned from an amazing week in Vancouver. I managed to snap a few Smallville filming locations along the way and thought i'd share them. As I only had a week (and most days were taken up with day trips i.e. Whistler and Vancouver Island) I didnt manage to get to the farm :( - although I now have a reason to go back :p.

Hey thanks for the comments. I really recommend a visit to Vancouver its such a lovely place. I actually visited a lot more locations but didnt realise at the time they were filming locations; for example Gastown and the surrounding streets were where they filmed the Paris scenes with Lana. To my delight even the hotel I stayed in, the rather posh Fairmont Waterfront, was the setting for the scene with Lana leaving Metropolis for Paris!
I wish I would have taken more pics but I had such a busy week exploring Vancouver and the surrrounding attractions, you could visit for a month and still not have time to fit everything in. To put it in perspective I shot 1600 photos in 7 days. ;)

I was looking for this thread, or one like it where familiar Smallville locations can be found.
I live in Victoria (home of the Luthor Mansion). It's a familiar site though outside of Victoria proper (about 20 minutes from downtown).
I've been there a few times over the years but must revisit again with camera in hand.
It's amazing being Canadian and seeing so many sites associated with Kansas the home of such a legendary American icon as Superboy so close by. Although, I always imagined Metropolis to be New York City (despite the presence of Batman's Gotham).
I admit I get the warm fuzzies knowing that original Superman artist, Joe Shuster was born in Canada. Up here we're raised on American culture so it's nice seeing that our two countries have shared a lot of creative talent over the years.
Thanks for posting this thread Channelsurfer531. :)
I'll definitely look up some Smallville locations next time I make a trip to Vancouver.

Hey thanks for the great info on Smallville sites. I also referenced the Angelfire site. My journey of sites started at Beresford St.. I had a nice chat with the security guard (very friendly), although it's nearly impossible to get a pass on the set. Any ideas anyone? Next I went to the Talon! Surprisingly they don't have a Smallville gift shop or anything there (in Cloverdale, BC). I think they are missing out on an opportunity to cash in there...Anyways, The Talon (Clova Theatre) looks just as in the show. Except there are Canadian flags on the street :) Later that night I drove by the Luther Corp building. The following morning, the highlight, I took an extensive tour around the Kent Farm and took several pictures. Being at the Kent farm is as if you were an extra on the show..A must see!..I have lots of pics as well as a couple of video's I filmed if anyone is interested in seeing. God bless! - Jeremy

David,
Hey thanks for the message. Unfortunately, no to both questions. I am not sure if it's advised to talk to the actual owners of the Kent Farm? I guess I just assumed, and maybe read in one of the forums, it's just good to respect their privacy. I suppose if they were out and about it'd be alright. And no, I didn't get a chance to watch a movie at the Clova Theatre, but if I return to Cloverdale, that'd be a great idea! God bless, Jeremy

Hey guys. I dont know if I am posting this in the right form, and if I'm not then I'm very sorry and you can move it to where ever, but I was just wondering if anyone could help me out or direct me to a post that will. I'm a very huge fan of Smallville and every year my dad takes my sister and I on vacation, and I am trying to convince him to take us to Vancouver. He said that if I can come up with enough information for him that he will think about it. My question is if anyone knows the filming sched. He said we can go in either March, April or May, and I was just wondering if you guys knew. I dont know if they already stopped filming, but if you guys could let me know it would greatly be appretiated. Thanks again :)

My 20th birthday is coming up and for a gift my parents are taking me to Vancouver Monday and I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about filming? Just to see a glimpse of a cast member would be a great gift. Again sorry for posting, but if you could help or give me any tips it would be great. Thank you.
^ i'm going to sound stupid but were are the subfourms?

Another place they used as location for 02x19 (Precipice): http://www.2400motel.com/ (Paul went there after the confrontation with Lex and Helen). It's at 2400 Kingsway, in Vancouver too.
By the way, the trains used on this episode, look like West Coast Express, which leaves from Waterfront Station (that was also used as Metropolis Courthouse in Covenant).
I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY searched for the Isis Foundation all over downtown, but I couldn't find any building that resembled it, except for the Waterfront Centre. I really think the Isis Foundation was created with CGI or something like that... If anybody can read the street name on the plate, it would be of great help, otherwise...

Does anyone know the show's filming schedule? Or if you are allowed to visit the sets/locations? Thanks for any help.

I would think it's a closed set. They're hard at work at their job, no place for an audience; although seeing the production process from start to finish would be cool, I agree.

I'm kind of upset that Smallville's backlot set is used for all of Metropolis. It would definitely be nice if they could shoot on location in Vancouver. It would bring a Metropolitan feel rather than a "soundstage" feel.

They film from early in July to usually sometime in mid-April, with breaks here and there for holidays or just to give everyon a week off sorta like a spring break. (they get one of those in the fall and one in the spring).

I've been informed by someone pretty closely linked to the show (who doesn't want me naming them) that WB put production on Season 9 on hiatus this week.
Is this true? If so, why? And why haven't any of the press reported it?

I heard they might have taken a week off(last week) between the filming of the 8th episode and 9th episode, but that was more fan speculation(due to it being premiere week last week).

Maybe that's all it is, but surely it would still be reported by the press?

Not a hiatus. They got a week off. They get breaks every season. Its not big thing.

Yeah, obviously, otherwise it'd be the most intense production schedule on Earth. But the guy I spoke to used the word "hiatus".
Judging by CF's comments on Twitter, she's gone home.

^^Ah, see, I figured that Cassidy was not in Vancouver because they were filming an episode that she wasn't in. Interesting.

Isn't it because of the Olympics? Vancouver is gonna host, right?

does anybody know if Smallville will be filming at that time?
Thanks.

Yeah, they do it every season.
It's not a big deal, just like BadToad said.
They call it a hiatus, but that term refers to any scheduled break in production.

They'll be back at work tomorrow.

Yeah, although I believe they usually take off a week for US Thanksgiving. (Third Thursday of November.)

I know that several people have vacationed to Vancouver to see everything and I wanted some pointers. I am a huge fan and I have been begging my husband to take me up there for you years. I really want to go this spring but I want to try to go when they are filming. Does anyone know when they stop filming or and other tips? I also would love to see some Supernatural stuff too! Thanks!

Filming locations vary, as does the production schedule, but generally they stop production about the middle of April.
Supernatural doesn't take quite as long to produce per episode, not sure why, they generally end earlier, I believe.
That's probably not much help...
